23.01.2022 We have been looking at records relating to the Sisters of Mercy and discovered they started the first high school for girls in Australia during 1849 here in Perth!

21.01.2022 We’re busily digitising photos from the archives and here's some that we came across today!

18.01.2022 Order of Pope Pius IX. It was created as an Order of Merit for Papal States but was open to the laity. It was conferred on W H Archer as Commander on 22 April 1881. It was safely returned yesterday from St Mary’s Cathedral, where it has been on display in the Temporary Exhibition in the Undercroft Gallery. A new exhibition is being installed this week and can be viewed on a Guided Tour of the Cathedral very soon.

12.01.2022 The new heritage signage and displays went live last week. St Mary’s exhibition space is open after Mass each day. Check out the Cathedral’s website for Mass times: www.stmaryscathedralperth.com.au #stmaryscathedralperthwa #archdioceseofperth

12.01.2022 More conservation work is underway in the Archives - this time a subscription list for the Cathedral from 1862. The sellotape used to repair the document in the 1970s is being removed and the paper is being stabilised with Japanese tissue. #archdioceseofperth; #stmaryscathedral

09.01.2022 Spotted in the archive! Scraps of newspaper used as the lining for this book’s spine. The advertised company (J Lancaster and Son) had once been reported as the world’s largest manufacturer of photographic equipment!

06.01.2022 Look what we uncovered preparing to update the historical display at St Mary’s - a postcard of the Cathedral in 1912

04.01.2022 Part of our job is to select photographs for archiving sent from the media and marketing office. This picture is from the RCIA Mass (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) celebrated on Saturday, 29 August at St Mary’s Cathedral.

02.01.2022 Thank you so much for all your hard work Tamara, we will miss you! Wishing you many blessings for the future and all the very best on your new adventure.

01.01.2022 Our partners at Creative Spaces have been busy this week on our new exhibition which goes ‘live’ next Monday and will be open after Mass throughout the Christmas. #archdioceseofperth #stmaryscathedralperthwa #creativespaces #heritageperth #CatholicEducationWA

01.01.2022 Sr Frances Stibi PVBM (17.1.38 - 24.5.20) Our thoughts and prayers are with the Stibi family and Presentation Sisters this week following the passing of Sr Frances Stibi PVBM. Sister Frances was the Archdiocesan Archivist for twenty years and worked tirelessly to conserve the collection and make it accessible to the public. May she Rest in Peace. #ArchdioceseofPerth #stmarysperth
