24.01.2022 SUMO DEADLIFT TIPS Where do I stand?! When we look at the sumo deadlift we are taking the stance out wider than our traditional conventional stance. ... But often people are unsure about where to stand so they simply go to the widest point possible. This can be awkward to find a good centre point of balance in the foot. Causing us to tip forward with the bar or just feel awkward due to the amount of extra pressure on the adductors. Slide 1: The ideal place to stand where the legs make a house shape. This means we can apply pressure to the floor by wedging our hips towards the bar plus driving the feet into the ground by activating through the quads. Slide 2: Standard starting position most people gravitate to. WAYY too wide to start. Slide 3: A little too close almost just a wide stance conventional deadlift. How did you find your deadlift position for all my SUMO pullers out there?

13.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY My second ever powerlifting comp (This was a deadlift only) where I pulled a miraculous 242.5kg Deadlift on my 4th attempt after failing 220kg during my prep. Learned a lot since then and this comp had me hooked on what discipline and hard work could get me

13.01.2022 FOUNDATIONS OF THE BENCHPRESS The transfer of energy and the production of force happens from the feet through the hips and to the bar A great visual cue to look for in the bench press is what the whole body as a system is doing. Ideally all we should see is the arms bend and straighten. ... Before trying to focus on the micro take a look at the macro does your bench look like a salmon out of water?

13.01.2022 "If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself." --Henry Ford I’ve never had the opportunity to be surrounded by so many people who were on the same mission as me. I’m grateful to be spending my time with others who push me to be better and allow me to be authentic.

08.01.2022 Everyday I get to hang out, help people create goals, achieve them, talk about life and do things they never thought possible. Some people can spend an eternity searching for what makes them happy. I’m grateful to do it every day. My mission is to help others find their happiness. Whether that comes in the form of a PB, more confidence to pursue their dreams or just a chance to surround themselves with others who make them feel part of something. ... #ppsproud

07.01.2022 VARIATIONS Close grip bench press has been a staple for me over the years. Especially during phases of training where I am further away from competition (non specific).... It allows a greater distance to be travelled for the lift which when your not focussing on moving as much weight as possible will benefit you. You’re getting more direct work on the triceps which will help tie into greater strength on the Bench Press Give the close grip bench a go in your additional Bench Press days and watch your strength soar

07.01.2022 COMPETITION MINDSET When it comes to competition the mind can play games on us. What if I forget how to squat, miss commands or just plain f*ck it up? ... You would be lying to yourself if you said you have never had those thoughts. Early on in my Powerlifting journey when I had only done a few competitions I definitely had more negative than positive thoughts. Which would often weigh me down come comp day. Making me second guess and doubt myself. The more comps I’ve done the less pressure I’ve put on myself and the more I’ve really enjoyed the day. My mindset now is a result of the work I put in prior to the competition. Practicing the calls Pushing myself to do well in training Remaining focussed This in turn has led me to simply rocking up on the comp day ready and happy to just see what the day has in store. Understanding that there will always be another comp, another chance for a PB and if things aren’t there on the day that’s OK. Powerlifting is about developing overtime. The pressure you put on yourself is only going to dampen your enjoyment for it

05.01.2022 The more years I’ve spent competing in Powerlifting the less hyped I get for my own personal performances. Don’t get me wrong I love getting stronger, being a leader etc. But there is just so much more joy in taking someone who never ever thought of competing through their first time on the platform and seeing their world light up when they hit a PB. Looking forward to a year of guiding others to the platform and sharing in their success as they do things they never thought

04.01.2022 DEVELOPING A CHECKLIST When it comes to the big movements, depending on what stage of experience you have you will need to develop a mental checklist. This way every time you setup for a lift it’s the same process that ultimately leads you to performing excellent execution.... When I think about benching 1 Set my shoulders together and down 2 Break the bar with my hands Once the bar is out 3 Push my legs hard apart and into the floor 4 Pull myself up to touch the bar What’s your checklist for bench?
