25.01.2022 Spring is here and so are lots of babies

24.01.2022 Back in March I sold a trio of silkies to a family who have two little girls just like us. They sent me a photo and the news that my babies have hatched out their own babies

23.01.2022 The buffs LOVE the Xylophone! Thanks Coopers Rebecca Cooper

22.01.2022 Some of my really nice Puppy friends and their Family sent me this great sign. I’m going to put it on the chook gate.

20.01.2022 Soph wants a new incubator so she came up with various idea to earn the required funds. Her love of cooking has seen her offer family meal packs for sale to our local neighbourhood. She has had wonderful support and has fed 52 people in the past fortnight Sophie has chosen the meals, budgeted the costs, shopped and cooked. This afternoon she has the pleasure of delivering the latest batch of her home cooked goodness. She’s getting closer and closer to her savings goal. Super proud of her hard work and determination. There’ll be more chicks hatching before she knows it

18.01.2022 Floss always hatches four chicks! This time two white and two black

18.01.2022 I love these calendars

17.01.2022 It’s SO hard to leave for school when a chick is hatching right in front of your eyes luckily he popped out just in time. I can’t wait to get home this afternoon

16.01.2022 When you’re chicken mad, you want your birthday to be a Bird-Day! Sophie loves her birds and wanted to run a ‘Chicken Camp’ in the school holidays instead of a birthday party. What is Chicken Camp??? Two days of chicken related activities including; running new fences and remodelling the chook yard, washing, weighing and photographing each bird, installing mirrors, new perches and xylophones to the cages, creating personalised name tiles for each pen and so on. Massive day i...n the yards! We have one very happy and tired birthday girl! Thanks so much to the special few who joined in and everyone who rang and messaged her. You made Soph’s day. Not to mention the obligatory game of spoons. (She’s still declaring she won) Tomorrow will see the feed room organised, the paperwork sorted, the rest of the birds washed and the remainder of the cake eaten. See more

15.01.2022 I loved chatting with my Nannie Robyn Archer. She has chooks too and I was teaching her how to set a broody hen for the first time. She’s got lots of different types of hens and is trying to get rainbow eggs . She rings me or sends messages when she has questions. I like helping her

14.01.2022 My Dad teaches me all about chickens and helps me look after them. Thanks Daddy. I love you

11.01.2022 Introducing Lord Robert of Nugget aka Bob. Bob is the newest member of our Silkie family and is sure to add some regal attributes to the ensuing chicks.

11.01.2022 Yoghurt for Chooks!?! Soph has some very interesting thoughts on this after researching this common, chook keeping practice I love yoghurt and lots of people feed their chooks yoghurt as a treat but I don’t thinks it’s such a great idea. Mum gives me yoghurt and says the live bacteria cultures found in yogurt are good for my tummy. I think this is why lots of people give it to their chooks as well. BUT a mummy chook doesn’t have teats or give her babies milk like my mum and... lots of other animals do. The Chicken Doctors in my books say that birds don’t have the right things called enzymes in their bellys to properly digest the sugar in milk so a lot of yoghurt probably gives them a belly ache. A little bit of plain, unsweetened yoghurt sometimes is probably okay because there are some good things in yoghurt like cultures, but too much can cause runny poo. I’ll get Dad to help me make up special feeds with probiotics and minerals instead to keep my chooks healthy. See more

09.01.2022 Soph was exploring the evolution of chicken breeds this afternoon. Turns out Charles Darwin didn’t have all the answers when it comes to fowl
