10.01.2022 POLICE STATION UPGRADES are on the priority list if The Nationals WA are returned to Government in March 2021. We know there are many many old and outdated fa...cilities in regional WA that need repairing, refurbishing or to be rebuilt. Our police keep our communities safe and it’s unacceptable to have them working in substandard conditions. In addition, we’ve committed to returning a Water Police presence to the Pilbara - shut down by the McGowan Government in 2018 - and establishing a presence on the south coast. The Nationals know regional WA deserves better - only we have a plan to drive investment to support and sustain the people living and working in regional WA. #RoyaltiesforRegions #regionalWAyoudeservebetter #thenationalswa #police #communitysafety

06.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS NARROGIN Congratulations Narrogin. Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities State Winner 2020. This story is for you... A record number of entries for... any major motor race in Western Australia was received for the Commonwealth Jubilee Grand Prix held on Labour Day, March 1951. Thirty-eight in all. Headlined as the greatest sporting fixture in the history of Narrogin, the race was a Formula Libre, which allowed for a wide variety of types, ages and makes of purpose-built racing cars, to compete head to head. The 102 mile (24 lap) street circuit race was the first of its kind in WA. The fastest car entered, a Talbot Lago a G.P. Racer, capable of doing 160 mph and costing 3500. The largest machine entered, a car powered by two V8 Mercury motors mounted tandem fashion in the chassis. As well as WA entries, there were interstate and international drivers, including Englishman David Murray with his late model Maserati racing car. In the weeks before the race, drivers and their cars (towed or carried on the back of trucks), took the long overland trip across the Nullarbor. When asked to describe the road, one party described it as a graveyard of tyres". They had never seen anything like the number of blown out tyres on the east-west road. They were also struck by the heat. The radiator of a car being carried under the canopy, reportedly registering 140 degrees near Kalgoorlie. Hotels were booked out around Narrogin for miles around and on the day a huge crowd of around 35,000 attended the Grand Prix. Spectator comforts included food and refreshments (including outdoor beer booths), car parking and entertainments. As for the racing cars and drivers, they "faced a test of speed, skill and endurance". The winner of the 225 purse and trophy was F.W. Pratley from NSW driving a G Reed Special, with an average lap time of over 61 miles per hour (99 minutes, 15 seconds). The winner on handicap was S. Tillet from South Australia in his MG. That night celebrations continued in Narrogin with a Race Ball and trotting events on the town's "electric-light trotting track". While those unlucky enough to be returning to Perth, were caught in a continuous line of bumper to bumper traffic for about 14 miles, along Albany Highway. Note - This commentary was sourced newspaper articles using the magic of Trove. It provides an insight into the event at the time but is not intended to be a definitive history. The Wheatbelt community 192 kilometres south-east of Perth was a finalist in four Tidy Town categories and was praised by judges for the huge amount of work that has gone into improving the appearance and accessibility of the town for all community members.
