17.01.2022 Don't forget the long weekend begins today, therefore more POLICE than usual are out patrolling Sydney roads. Get caught for one offense this Queens Birthday long weekend and you pay twice - Double Demerits. Why not Purchase an $80 Bluetooth device to ensure they don't catch you for talking on your phone. $80 is a small price to pay as compared to a few hundred dollar fine plus some demerit points or possibly your license. From 1 November 2012, in NSW you can only use a mobile phone to make or receive a phone call, while driving if the phone: - is secured in a cr...adle fixed to the vehicle, or - can be operated by the driver without touching any part of the phone for example through the use of hands free or Bluetooth technology. If caught breaking this law the penalty includes the loss of 3 demerit points(or four if the offense occurs in a school zone) and a fine.
