25.01.2022 GOT A QUESTION? LET PETER WALSH ANSWER IT In these increasingly uncertain and tumultuous times; we all have more questions than we are getting answers. So I am launching a weekly livestream Q&A session starting tomorrow night at 7.15pm here on my Facebook page.... You will be able to email your questions to me all week and I will do my best to answer as many as possible. Questions for the first show have already been collected from the many people visiting my Echuca office and phoning us for the past week. All the details of where to send your questions for future shows will be posted on this page tomorrow. I look forward to you joining me tomorrow at 7.15pm. See more

25.01.2022 This year is the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War Our communities have come together each year since then to remember the sacrifices of those men and women who served for our country in the World Wars and conflicts since We all understand that COVID restrictions mean services this year will look very different, but it’s disheartening the Victorian Government will only allow 10 people to meet outdoors at cenotaphs tomorrow, despite limits of up to 50 for o...ther similar services I’m supporting the calls from Victorian RSLs to sensibly and safely increase the gathering limit #vicnats #community

24.01.2022 UPDATE: I have a link now to be a better resolution map. https://www.service.nsw.gov.au//border-region-map-covid-19 Try this one and see how you go.... NEW BORDERS BETWEEN VICTORIA AND NSW I am posting this map of the new borders between Victoria and NSW for your information. Unfortunately, because it is so big the quality may not be as good as usual; but it does provide a guide about the new zones and where you fit in them.

24.01.2022 Regional Victoria robbed in big borrowing, big debt Labor Budget The Andrews Labor Government has outspent itself with a city-focussed State Budget that delivers little for regional Victorians Country people’s resilience has been stretched to the limit this year, first by catastrophic bushfires and then two waves of coronavirus shutdowns that have blown a hole in once thriving local economies... Today’s State Budget doesn’t deliver the boost to jobs and businesses that is desperately needed There’s no funding for health services at Maffra, Warragul, Hamilton, Swan Hill or Willaura There’s no funding to complete upgrades at schools in Bairnsdale, Foster, Cohuna and more There’s no funding to complete the $260 million Shepparton bypass, despite the Federal Coalition providing $208 million The Andrews Labor Government has also continued starving our fire services of much needed funds by failing to invest in upgrades to CFA stations at Myrtleford, Yarrawonga, Rochester and Leitchville My full analysis of the day is below #vicnats #community

23.01.2022 CHANGES TO MASK RULE Victoria will move to the last step of COVID-19 restrictions today and the mandatory mask rule will be wound back - a relief for us in northern Victioria with the mercury going through the roof in recent days Here’s a summary of the changes from 11.59pm tonight:... Masks no longer compulsory outside when you can stay a safe distance from others, but must be carried and worn inside any venue, including public transport, and when in crowded situations outside (such as at a busy market or in a queue) Up to 15 people allowed to visit your home each day - infants not included in the 15 cap. 23.01.2022 THE ULTIMATE INSULT - ANDREWS LOSES HIS REGIONAL VICTORIA NOTES IN 90 minutes today the grand Daniel Andrews plan, the Daniel Andrews road map out of the mess created by his failure with the COVID-19 quarantine program, had just one mention for regional Victoria. When he said he lost his notes about what will happen to us.... To call this an insult is nowhere near the total disdain displayed for hundreds of thousands of people who have done everything right and this is their thanks. There are 27 local government areas in regional Victoria with zero COVID cases. Across northern Victoria there is just a handful of active cases; all well below the governments own benchmark of 10 cases reported a day. Most of northern Victoria hasnt had 10 cases period. This is a massive chance missed to unlock the state, postcode by postcode, and Daniel Andrews has ignored every suggestion and proposal put forward by the Liberal Nationals. Businesses and jobs being lost and no clear plan to reopen regional Victoria this isnt a roadmap to recovery; this is a roadmap to nowhere. File photo See more

23.01.2022 WOORINEN PETITION GOES DIGITAL TO SEND A CLEAR PHONE MESSAGE The good folk at Woorinen have launched an online petition in a bid to end their years in a mobile black spot.... And I am urging everyone to sign their petition and help them get the services people in Swan Hill barely 15km away and others in towns the length of the Murray enjoy as a normal part of life. Along with Woorinen South and Beverford we are talking a small population but this is an area that is a pivotal part of an agricultural powerhouse region worth almost $3 billion every year yet they remain trapped in a no-call zone. Residents have been fighting a losing battle for the past three years; it is frustrating businesses which need reliable communications; it means students at home under protracted COVID-19 restrictions struggled to maintain their remote learning because the internet is so unreliable and its social impacts are obvious. You can access the Woorinen digital petition at: https://www.aph.gov.au/petition_list?id=EN1993 Read the full story at https://www.peterwalsh.org.au//woorinen-goes-for-broke-on/ File photo #vicnats #communitty #COVID #woorinen #telstra

23.01.2022 GIVING A VOICE TO SEX ATTACK VICTIMS AND THEIR FAMILIES Last night the Legislative Council passed the Liberal Nationals’ amendment, 19 votes to 15, to protect families of deceased sexual assault victims and allow them to speak out about their loved ones. It should never have come to this, but - thanks to our amendments - victims of sexual assault will now not lose their voice.... Only Labor MPs voted against this protection. 22.01.2022 Lest We Forget the sacrifices of those who came before us to give us the country we have today The men and women who served and made the ultimate sacrifice, those who came home and those who have served in conflicts since. It left a mark on every person in this country - not just those who went away This year is also 75 years since the end of the Second World War... Services will look very different this year with a limit of 10 on gatherings at outdoor cenotaphs. 22.01.2022 Its a long time coming, but Daniel Andrews says hell finally announce a roadmap out of lockdown on Sunday Victorians have been kept in the dark. Sole traders, our cross-border communities and our regions need time to plan to get back on track. Recovery must include: Schools to recommence for Term 4... Fix restrictions for cross-border communities Resumption of junior and community sport Allowing a faster easing of restrictions including for the hospitality industry, in areas or municipalities with low or no COVID-19 cases Easing restrictions on weddings, funerals and religious services while respecting the need for social distancing Allowing the resumption of non-contact personal services including (but not limited to) gardeners, personal trainers, accountants, and printers Read more: https://www.peterwalsh.org.au//andrews-roadmap-too-late-f/ #vicnats #community

21.01.2022 CATTO LODGE CAMPAIGN TO SAVE COMMUNITY ASSET Yesterday with Shadow Treasurer and Economic Development Minister Louise Staley I met with a motivated group of locals determined Catto Lodge is retained in any redevelopment of the Kooyoora State Park/Melville Caves State Park. The lodge is under threat of demolition from a Parks Victoria and Andrews Government plan.... The government is introducing joint management of this; and other parks, with the Dja Dja Wurrung which I, and pretty much everyone I’ve spoken with, reckons has merit. Many of the proposals under the joint management plan, such as reinstating the natural flow of a spring or relocating the toilet block, will be a welcome improvement. However, the proposal to demolish this well-loved community asset is divisive. Locals have set up a Save Catto Lodge Facebook page; which has more information. 20.01.2022 NORTHERN TERRITORY OPENS ITS BORDERS TO REGIONAL VICTORIA; SA OFFERS A DRIVE-THORUGH OPTION TO GET THERE THE borders are starting to come down. The NT government has just announced regional Victorians can freely cross its borders from today.... Only Mitchell Shire and Melbourne are currently excluded. The South Australian government has also announced regional Victorians headed for the NT can drive through its state to get there. And what about the Murray and the twin towns from Mildura upstream? NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said today it could be weeks, not months before she opens those borders. Great news all around and to have our river communities reunited before Christmas would be a fantastic present for everyone.

20.01.2022 CAFE CLOSED FOR SIX MONTHS DENIED BUSINESS SUPPORT Constantly changing rules and restrictions have been an agonising rollercoaster for our local business owners.... The Black Pudding Cafe Echuca has been closed for six months, but owner John Taverna has been told they still dont qualify for the Andrews Labor Governments business support And 9 in 10 of Victorias 400,000 sole traders wont qualify for the token grants annuonced earlier this week Local businesses will need a boost as we look to recovery, without it, our main streets will become a ghost town #vicnats #community

19.01.2022 LABOR MUST LIFT ITS WORKFORCE LIMITS OR RISK STEALING CHRISTMAS The Andrews Labor Government must work with industry to resolve fears the food supply chain will crumble unless workforce restrictions are lifted before the busy Christmas period. Industry has called for the requirement on meat processors and food distribution centres to be safely increased from 67 per cent to make sure theres enough workers to keep up with peak demand through spring and in the lead up to Christ...mas. https://www.peterwalsh.org.au//labor-must-lift-workforce-/ See more

19.01.2022 IT'S A HARD LIFE BEING A GEELONG FAN Geelong football fans have had their share of heartbreaks over the years from 1967 to the absolute devastation of 1989. But we have had our share of massive highs too, such as 2007. Followed by 2009 and 2011.... Sadly, though, not followed by 2020, with the Cats going down to Richmond in a rain marred match. And for some of us it is a loss with ramifications and a glaring example of why you should not bet on sport and why I am helping my ‘mate’ Chris Harrison paint his fences at Durham Ox black and yellow when I should be watching the replay of another Geelong premiership. Professional sport is a tough business but it’s often much harder for its fans. Fortunately, Chris has painted so much of his property black and yellow in recent years there is not much left to do here and I might be home before the next grand final. 19.01.2022 MADE IN VICTORIA, FOR VICTORIANS THE QUEST FOR THE PERFECT TORTILLA Next time you pick up some tortilla chips or wraps, check to see if they're made in Bendigo... Bendigo-based Sonora Foods is going from strength to strength, with a workforce of 120 people and strong demand for their high-quality products. They started off manufacturing tortillas, recently moving into the chips space - and business is booming I want to see more products manufactured here, for Victorians, using locally sourced products That's why I'm urging the Victorian Government to create a $1 billion Bringing Manufacturing Home fund to decrease our reliance on imports and to support more local jobs See more here: https://vic.nationals.org.au/back-to-work-and-back-in-busin #vicnats #community

19.01.2022 UNCHAIN REGIONAL VICTORIA AND LET US SAVE OURSELVES. DAN HAS DONE ENOUGH This map shows the penalty regional Victorians are being forced to pay because of the Andrews Labor Governments bungling of the quarantine program and the contact tracing protocols. All the green areas are COVID-19 free.... We tried to offer proposals and suggestions to the Government; but it declined to include the Opposition in any of its planning. Now Melbourne is still locked down and the regional economy is on the Premiers roadmap to ruin because of his refusal to relax the restrictions in most of the state where there have been few, if any, COVID-19 cases. We should be freed now; we must not be shackled to the shambles Premier Andrews has made of this; why do we have to pay the price of that mismanagement? vicn.at/messagetodan See more

19.01.2022 RING OF STEEL TO GO, BUT NO DATE ON MOVE TO LAST STEP What's actually in this for regional Victoria?... The Premier has been full of hot air and empty promises in the past two days Regional Victoria's now at a 14-day average of 0.2, but Daniel Andrews still can't bring himself to listen to our calls for a separate roadmap out of lockdown that doesn't chain our future to metro Melbourne Country Victorians were looking for the green light to move to the last step today, but instead all we got was the announcement that the ring of steel will go on November 8, bringing the city in line with country Victoria. Still no date for when we’ll move to the last step Labor's failures caused the second wave. I know the move to open regional Victoria is good for our tourism and accommodation sectors, but that for some there'll be a degree of nervousness. I'll be holding the government to account to make sure there's safe changes that protect our country communities #vicnats #community

18.01.2022 REGIONAL RESTRICTIONS STILL A LONG WAY FROM NORMAL LIFE REGIONAL Victoria will tomorrow night move to Step Three of the Victorian Governments COVID-19 but freedom is still not on the agenda until the end of November.... Premier Daniel Andrews has announced changes which end any restrictions on leaving home, will allow public gatherings of as many as 10 people and see schools go back in term four. You will also now be allowed visitors at home but only from one other household. Hospitality can reopen but mostly for outdoor seated service as well as takeaway and all retail will be allowed to open that includes hairdressers and personal care (but only that can be done without removing a clients mask). 18.01.2022 HOON PETITION GOES TO PARLIAMENT I have presented a petition to the Victorian Parliament from residents in Echuca South, who have been complaining for a few years about hoons in and around their normally quiet streets. Their petition quickly gained hundreds of signatures from locals and also attracted the attention of the Campaspe Highway patrol, which launched regular patrols within a week of the petitions launch.... That resulted in an arrest and car seizure. However, they were unable to maintain patrols because of the underlying problem being confronted across the electorate of Murray Plains there simply are not enough police to properly protect the residents. The Minister for Police needs to make an urgent review of staffing levels across all regional Victoria small towns are left with no police presence; many others only have part-time support. This is leading to rising crime statistics in many areas and that is getting worse every year. If we cannot get realistic numbers of police uniformed and detectives into regional Victoria; then hooning may soon be the least of our problems. Photo: Concerned resident Sandy Pearce hands over the petition about hoons on Echuca South streets.

18.01.2022 HOPES FOR NSW VIC BORDER CHANGES COME TO NOTHING Todays non-event from NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian is an absolute kick in the guts to families, businesses and communities on the border who have been to hell and back under closures that have separated us from family, friends, work, education and health care The NSW Premier was expected to announce some changes to the closure today with the restrictions easing tonight in regional Victoria. But instead said they will be made... in the next week Weve been anticipating the significant easing of restrictions in regional Victoria for nearly a week. Thats more than enough time to consider and implement changes to NSW public health orders that allow our border communities to safely move towards COVID normal Daniel Andrews and the NSW Premier have sat on their hands and done nothing to prepare to reopen the border leaving our communities facing another week of pain #vicnats #community

18.01.2022 What does China’s trade uncertainty mean for our Victorian farmers? Farming’s a tough gig at the best of times, but this year growers have also been hit with ongoing uncertainty in international export markets. China makes up more than a third of Victoria’s food and fibre exports so the trade issues are creating huge uncertainty Just one of the issues Gary Blackwood MP Bridget Vallence MP and I discussed with Gippsland and Yarra Valley growers. The cherry season is well under...way, and the sector is showing strong innovation. Pleased to see there’s a lot of work going into diversifying its trading partners so it can mitigate market shock a measure The Nationals recently called for in our Back to Work Back in Business plan for Victoria’s post-COVID recovery Also good to hear from representatives in the timber industry which continues to demonstrates why it is world-class in terms of sustainability practises and should be a centre-piece of the local economy well into the future #vicnats #community

17.01.2022 MURRAY RIVER PADDLESTEAMERS BUILDING UP A HEAD OF STEAM MURRAY River Paddlesteamers have had to postpone a hoped-for September 14 return to the water but the good news is as soon as the restrictions are eased they will be ready to sail. I caught up with owner Rohan Burgess recently and he told me as tough as the COVID-19 crisis has been, the Murray River Paddlesteamers fleet of PS Emmylou, PS Canberra and Pride of the Murray, is committed to helping get the regions tourism... back on track. And they will be vital for that as one of the pinup enterprises providing the historical link between the history of the twin towns and their future. The paddlesteamers are the public face of what makes Echuca-Moama a tourist magnet and getting the fleet back on the job will go a long way towards helping get everyone and everything back in business. Rohan said Murray River Paddlesteamers is all about connecting people with Australias inland history, geography, culture and cuisine. So keep an eye on murrayriverpaddlesteamers.com.au for updates. 16.01.2022 GROWERS' HARVEST HOPES CRUSHED BY SEASONAL WORKER SHORTAGE What will happen if we can't fix problems accessing seasonal labour this year? Queensland farmers are already finding out... With our harvest not far away, Victorian growers will also be forced to make painful decisions. If they can't get the workforce they need to get fruit off the trees, it will be left to rot The Nationals' Melina Bath MP asked the Victorian Ag Min in State Parliament today to update our horticulture growers. The response was full of hot air, with a disappointing lack of solutions despite there being some good ideas coming from industry #vicnats #community

15.01.2022 MADISON UPDATE: The talented Madison Lloyd has continued her winning run since recording her first city win last week. On Friday she rode a double on her home track at Swan Hill and today was over at Warracknebeal where she scored another double. She is pictured below in the black silks with sash on RunThe Show, one of her Friday winners.... MILESTONE MOMENT FOR NYAH JOCKEY MADISON LLOYD WEDNESDAY was a big one for Nyah jockey Madison Lloyd. The apprentice, who rides for the Nathan Hobson stable in Swan Hill, landed her first city winner, riding Beautiful Bee for Benalla trainer Russell Osborne. Beautiful Bee was a 20/1 longshot but Madison had won on the horse at Swan Hill on August 24 and with her 3kg apprentice weight claim she got the nod for Sandown. At Swan Hill she got Beautiful Bee over the line by a short half head, and that was the winning margin again on Wednesday. Osborne said it was fantastic to share her first city win and described her ride as professional beyond her age and experience. He said she would have a bright future in racing. Madison will be racing at Swan Hill tomorrow so you can follow her on Racing.com. Congratulations Madison and good luck with the rest of your career. Photos: Pat Scala/Racing Photos

15.01.2022 MORE REASONS TO SPEND LOCALLY What better way to help our regional communities recover than by getting out and exploring everything our great state has to offer Today we've called on the Andrews Labor Government to encourage Victorians to get out in our own backyard - rather than travelling interstate when the borders open up. Our plan to help our tourism sector get back on its feet after a horror year includes:... Vouchers discounting up to $200 off tours or accommodation when booking three nights or more A $300m Victorian Tourism Fund to support operators to recover and promote what local regions have to offer A $400m fund to develop and upgrade tourist attractions across Victoria in 2021 Victorian small businesses deserve a break after devastating bushfires and COVID 19 shutdowns #vicnats #community

15.01.2022 THE DEAD GO TO THEIR GRAVES, THE MINISTERS GO BACK TO THEIR JOBS THIS is an excerpt from a report in The Age by Peter Hartcher, political and international editor of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.... (Premier) Andrews convened an inquiry into the hotel quarantine failure. It has uncovered a litany of bungles and failures by the private security company guards who were hired to enforce the cordon sanitaire. Why did the Andrews government make the fatal choice of commissioning private security contractors to run hotel quarantine. Andrews and his ministers have issued apologies for the death, suffering and disease over which theyve presided. Who are the ministers in the relevant Victorian government posts now? The same ones who were there before the outbreak Mikakos, Pakula, Andrews. Everyone is sorry. No one is responsible. Ministers preside over catastrophic failure, illness and mass death. And keep their jobs. And their powers. And their privileges. It doesnt matter how many people die as a result. The dead go to their graves. The ministers go back to their jobs. Ministers are supposed to wield power with responsibility. When responsibility for a serious matter can be clearly attached to a particular Minister personally, it is of fundamental importance to the effective operation of responsible government that he or she adhere to the convention of individual responsibility, says the House of Representatives Practice. Canadas House of Commons is even clearer: "The principle of individual ministerial responsibility holds Ministers accountable not only for their own actions as department heads, but also for the actions of their subordinates; individual ministerial responsibility provides the basis for accountability throughout the system." What we see here is more like the definition of a minister in the Devils Dictionary: An agent of a higher power with a lower responsibility. 15.01.2022 DANS POWER GRAB Labor MPs have forced through the Andrews Governments controversial bid to hold onto the power to make decisions over Victorians lives and livelihoods A six-month extension to the State of Emergency powers, no checks, no balances, no safeguards, no accountability. Thats not what Victorians voted for... The Nationals supported a month-by-month extension because no government should be able to have indefinite power over peoples lives #vicnats #community

14.01.2022 SOUTH AUSTRALIA SHOWS DANIEL ANDREWS WHAT HE MUST DO FOR THE BORDER COMMUNITIES South Australia has opened its borders to regional NSW with no need to quarantine from 12.01am tomorrow.... Surely this sends a message to the Andrews Labor Government its draconian border closure, that means any Victorian outside the bubble must take a COVID test and isolate if they cross the river, has run its race. South Australia is still denying entry to people from Greater Sydney, Wollongong, Central Coast and the Blue Mountains and so can we. But we must turn the bubble green, while our border communities are one, if we don’t open them to the whole state urgently, too many businesses will go to the wall. This is people’s futures we are playing with with no cases in Victoria for days, and only one in NSW today. We must turn the bubble green. #community #vicnats #COVID19 #COVID #bordercrossing

14.01.2022 LONG LINE OF REASONS WHY SWAN HILL NEEDS ITS NEW HOSPITAL The desperate need for a new Swan Hill hospital was sadly on show this week as the city’s sick and the elderly were forced to endure long waits and a distressing lack of pathology facilities at its Clinical Laboratory service.... Queues start forming 30 minutes or more before its 8am opening to avoid the long waits caused by its cramped, outdated and understaffed conditions. On Monday this week one local arrived at 7.30am and found eight people already in line. Most of them need blood tests, many have been fasting and they are all confronted with a lack of privacy and those poor facilities to compound the wait. On Monday the morning temperature was in single figures with a strong and very cold wind. But with such cramped space most are left out in the cold. By opening time there were nearly 20 people queued up and that did not include those who had already left, not wanting to wait in the weather. These people are there because they are sick on Monday the queue included the elderly, pregnant women, diabetics and oncology patients; all standing in the open when that is the last thing they need. I am reliably informed the queues remain around these levels for much of the day and that is not good enough and neither is leaving this large regional hub without the hospital it deserves. But Dans one-size-fits-all regional restrictions and extension of Stage 4 in Melbourne risk prices crashing taking money from farmers pockets at a time when they can least afford it All industry is asking for is to be allowed to run up to 80%of the workforce (up from 67%) to make sure they can keep feeding our nation with top-notch Victorian lamb. 11.01.2022 EVERYONE GET ON BOARD AND LET’S TURN THAT BUBBLE GREEN Turn The Bubble Green got its official launch this morning with the Riverine Herald and Ace Radio getting the campaign off to a spectacular start to boost political and public awareness of the extreme urgency to have Moama and all NSW river towns turned green.... And the only person who can do that is Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews who, as of this morning, was still happy to ignore the collateral damage his kneejerk decision to close the border has caused. I would like to congratulate everyone involved in the TTBG campaign there are now T-shirts, placards, a Facebook page and extensive media support across the board to try and get this ridiculous situation turned around. Immediately. I am delighted to have played my part in getting this campaign off the ground so quickly following the meeting I convened just 48 hours ago and am happy to stand back now and watch the word spread. And my Federal colleague, and Member for Farrer, Sussan Ley, will be arriving in Moama tomorrow on a fact finding mission for Canberra and hopefully that will lead to vital financial support. There is also a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/TurnTheBubbleGreen) and a hashtag (#turnthebubblegreen) and call to action T-shirts and placards (which I was 'happy' to model this morning). This is a vital campaign for every Victorian in a twin town situation as much as it is for people in NSW and I urge you to write to the Victorian Premier, to post opinions on his Facebook page, to use your own social media and spread the message as far and fast as you can. And let’s Turn The Bubble Green. #turnthebubblegreen #community #COVID19 #COVID #vicnats

It took two shots of antivenin to save Remi, with vets warning pet owners of the risks to inquisitive dogs this summer. If I had not been home early there is no doubt Remi would not have made it; and I would really like to thank Echuca Moama Veterinary Clinic for saving our dog, Shan said. 09.01.2022 REGIONAL ROADMAP Daniel Andrews doesnt have a roadmap that meets the needs of regional communities, businesses and our families. His one size fits all approach to managing the virus does not consider that there are now 27 LGAs that meet his criteria of the moving into the next step of easing restrictions. ... When there is no COVID in these communities, local people should be able to support local businesses. What is your message for Daniel Andrews? vicn.at/messagetodan #community #vicnats

09.01.2022 AUCTION DATE SET FOR RANDOM HOUSE IN ROCHESTER ROCHESTER’S Random House will finally go under the hammer at 11am on December 5 on the property. The community has been campaigning for this historic, signature address (22-30 Bridge Rd) to be rescued after sitting empty for years and starting to be at risk of long-term damage.... And I have been happy to help them as much as I could, hounding the corridors of Parliament and chasing anyone and everyone who could help. The 4/5 bedroom manor, set in 4.58ha of botanical grounds with its magnificent Moreton Bay figs the pièce de résistance Random House is being sold by Ray White Rochester. 09.01.2022 WHAT PRICE DO WE PUT ON OUR PEOPLE? THERE are people around Australia I have been trying to help one woman here in the electorate of Murray Plains desperate to get into other states to farewell loved ones before it is too late. For too many of them, that deadline has passed. Parents, even worse, children, dying in hospitals in other states and those nearest and dearest to them are being denied the chance to share those last few words, that last hug, one last kiss the la...st touch of farewell. Moments that cannot be recaptured; a sense of loss and deep pain that will haunt many of them the rest of their lives. Bringing a pandemic under control is vital; we have all been in that fight from day one. But if you had the power to admit a person to go from a border post straight to a hospital bed and then back, seeing no-one else, touching no-one else, not even breathing on anyone else because they will have a mask, what would you do? 09.01.2022 SWAN HILL NEEDS A NEW BRIDGE A lot has changed since the days of horse and carts, but one thing that hasnt is the Swan Hill Bridge Its a slow crawl for the b-doubles and every time I see one cross Im reminded just how desperately we need a new bridge... Weve been calling for it for years. The Federal Govt supported us with a $60m investment last year. Time for the States to come to the party and get it done #vicnats #community

08.01.2022 WHOS IN CHARGE? Nationals call for a Royal Commission More deaths, more businesses closed, more Victorians out of work because of the second wave. But no one in the Andrews Labor Govt is responsible?... Weve all made huge sacrifices. Missing weddings, funerals, birthdays, time with family and friends that we will never get back. Our kids have been dragged through many more months of remote learning and small business owners have been on a rollercoaster of always changing rules and not knowing if tomorrow is the day theyll have to close their doors for good We need a Royal Commission. We need accountability. We need the truth. #vicnats #community

08.01.2022 FIRST THEY CAME FOR... My 2020 version of Lutheran Pastor Martin Niemollers prose First they came for the CFA volunteers; but not enough spoke up because they werent members of the United Firefighters Union.... Then they came for the Native Timber Industry; but not enough spoke up because they didnt work in the Native Timber Industry Then they came for the hunters who wanted to buy ammunition; but not enough spoke up because they werent hunters Then they came for the rights of every Victorian; but no one spoke up because if they did the Premier would have them arrested for speaking out

08.01.2022 ANDREWS MISLEADS VICTORIA OVER HIS PRIVATE CURFEW TODAY, Victoria Police Chief Commissioner, Shane Patton, has confirmed Victoria Police did not request and were not consulted prior to the introduction of Melbourne nightly curfew. This revelation follows confirmation earlier this week by Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton that Melbournes curfew was not based on medical advice nor was he consulted prior to its introduction.... Melbournes night curfew has been in force for 58 days and has resulted in more than $6 million in fines and represents the single greatest limitation imposed on the freedoms of Victorians in our states history and it was a decision made by Daniel Andrews alone. Daniel Andrews has misled the community about the basis of his curfew and now must be scrapped immediately. The Premier just wants to control Victorians because he cant control the virus. The Liberal Nationals believe the curfew should be lifted immediately. Just as the restrictions crippling regional Victoria must also go immediately. Victorians deserve this basic freedom back. 07.01.2022 THE RIVER IS OPEN TO BORDER REGION RESIDENTS NOT only is the NSW border open again so is the river. Border region residents in Victoria can now launch boats, paddleboards, canoes, kayaks and anything that floats and fishers can start casting immediately. And campers can pull up and set up once again. But make sure you have your valid border resident pass with you, or within reach. That is non-negotiable at this stage.... Victorian residents outside the border region are still unable to access the river. But talks are being held with NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard later today and I will post details as soon as they are available. See more

07.01.2022 LOCAL AVOCADO FARMERS COVID COPING STRATEGY: As a former farmer I know how agricultural enterprises have to adapt for all sorts of challenges, from drought, flood and fire to market demand and economics beyond their control. Which is why I have been so impressed at watching so many different types of producers literally pulling rabbits out of their collective hats to not just survive but to thrive. Avocado grower Andrew Crossman showed me around his Torrumbarry orchards wher...e he has made significant investments including two giant frost fans. Andrew told me Crossies Cados have lost most of their usual farmers markets, for example, but said this had been slightly offset by good prices, good crops and no major water challenges. We still get to some farmers markets and have started a wholesale connection in Bendigo, so that helps, Andrew told me. You just have to innovate and tap into new markets, adjust what you have always done and try something different, he said. That includes the Crossmans launching their own mini market at the bottom of their Echuca driveway on weekends, going direct to the local market with their next sale this Saturday at 19 Snowden Street, Echuca from 9am to 11am. Taking cash or card, Andrew and Sarah will be selling their freshly picked and locally grown Hass avocados in a variety of bags from $7-$10 as well as a range of the citrus they also grow. And they have tapped into another local producer and will be selling their locally made jerky for $10. Another great example of a local business fighting to stay viable during these tough times @Crossies Cados See more

Heyfield Meeting Wednesday 2 December 2020 from 6PM at the Heyfield Wetlands walk East Gippsland Meeting Thursday 3 December 2020 from 7PM at the Orbost Recreation Reserve Fighting Daniel Andrews' planned closure of the native timber industry and the devastating impact this is having on local families and our regional towns remains a priority. Our locally grown and manufactured sustainable native timber industry must be supported. Victoria’s native timber workers produce world class timber products under the most stringent regulations, it's important to continue to support, embrace and promote the industry at all levels. 06.01.2022 Victorian wine growers have worked hard to build our good reputation for supplying high-quality products. 04.01.2022 No government should be able to write itself a blank cheque for extreme power over Victorians lives and livelihoods What do you think? Have your say at vicn.at/NatsPlan The Nationals will not support Labors draconian move to extend its State of Emergency powers for a further 12 months ... Labors mismanagement of this pandemic does mean some public health measures need to continue beyond 13 September 2020. Well be proposing a number of amendments to Labors legislation that will better protect the rights of Victorians. This includes requiring extensions to be approved by both Chambers of Parliament (for a maximum of four weeks) and to remove a proposal for the powers to apply even when theres no active COVID-19 cases The Andrews Government should be giving us a pathway back to life. Not a plan for more lockdowns #vicnats #community

04.01.2022 PREMIER ANDREWS CHOOSES TO IMPORT MORE COVID BECAUSE WE DON’T HAVE ANY IN VICTORIA Let’s see if we have got this right.... The Andrews Labor Government refuses to change the COVID rating for towns in the NSW bubble from orange to green. Condemning places such as Moama, Tooleybuc, Albury, Barham, Mulwala, Wentworth and the many other twin towns to financial ruin because any Victorian crossing the river who does not already live in the Victorian side of the bubble must test and isolate on crossing back into Victoria. Right. There are countless Victorian families in Queensland and NSW still waiting for orange permits to be approved so they can come home. Right. Yet in his wisdom, Premier Daniel Andrews has authorised the importation of positive COVID cases from around the world so they can play in the Australian Open. Right. Then on the news tonight we see many of those now stuck in 14-day quarantine moaning about how hard their lives are. Yet every player who turns up and plays in the main draw of the Australian Open is guaranteed $100,000 in the first round. For losing. I can think of hundreds, probably thousands, of business owners along the river who would happily quarantine for 14 days if they could pocket $100,000. Just shows what our Premier thinks about our twin towns, which rely so much on each other. Game, set and get lost. #Covid19 #COVID #turnthebubblegreen #vicnats #bordercrossing #community

03.01.2022 BREAKING: NSW to extend the border bubble on Friday From 12.01am, NSW will increase the size of the border region from 2.5km to 50km. Its a big relief for residents who have been having trouble getting to work, health care, education, groceries and accessing the other essential goods and services we all need in our daily lives. But I know theres still many people living outside the border bubble who cant get where they need to be. Ill keep working with my NSW counterpar...ts to fix the problems and get life back to normal as soon as possible Also still working to get more progress on changes to Ag permits to make sure our farmers and farm workers can go about their business and to free up the food supply chain. 03.01.2022 R U OK? DAY ON THURSDAY TOMORROW is R U OK? day and this year would rank as one of the most important for this major community-based mental health initiative. To describe 2020 in Victoria as challenging would be an understatement, so putting the spotlight on R U OK? Could not be more timely.... The pandemic, the lockdowns, the family, financial and employment stresses and the uncertainty makes it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, to be willing to support those around us. You dont have to be an expert to keep the conversation going when someone says theyre not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before theyre in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life. You can learn what to say after R U OK? by downloading the organisations free resources for tips and ideas to help you share the message in your community at https://www.ruok.org.au/join-r-u-ok-day

02.01.2022 MELBOURNE WITHSTANDS PENRITH STORM TO TAKE NRL CROWN My Cats couldn’t quite finish the season in style; but the Melbourne Storm managed to hang on and win its fourth NRL championship tonight. Just.... After holding Penrith scoreless in the first half, and scoring the first try in the second, the Storm nearly blew it as the Panthers and their astonishing record of dominance over Melbourne, made an unexpected charge as the half dragged on. Coming within six points when the whistle finally ended the tension. I’m sure most of you have seen some of the action but between a singularly dubious try for Panther Brian To’o and Storm players being sent off what seemed a foregone conclusion came down to a nail biter. I would have bitten mine too if they hadn’t all been chewed off in the Geelong-Richmond game last night. Congratulations to the Storm and all its supporters. Photo: ABC

02.01.2022 DISCOUNTED TUCKER TO BOOST CAFE SPEND AND THE FAMILY BUDGET How good is it to be able to get back to your favourite cafe?... In Warragul today with Gary Blackwood MP for some meetings and to support local businesses like Newmason. But I want to see the Vic Govt take recovery one step further by offering discount vouchers in next week's State Budget to encourage people to get out and spend locally By subsidising 50 per cent of the bill up to a maximum of $20 per person for a period of four weeks we can inject life into our local food businesses and help set our small business owners on track to get back on their feet. 01.01.2022 STAR KERANG JOCKEY WINS THE MELBOURNE CUP How about that Jye McNeil? It was the Kerang jockey’s first ride in the Melbourne Cup and he wasn’t going to waste it.... Leading from the start, his bold strategy for the Melbourne owned and Irish raced Twilight Payment paid off big time for the youngest jockey in the race on a horse trained by Joseph O’Brien, the youngest trainer. And as Jye etched his name in turf history, his partner Jess Payne, a former jockey, watched the victory on TV with their son Oakley, who was born on August 1. There might not have been any screaming crowds there to watch the big race but in an emotional tribute, as Jye rode through the silent grounds on his return to scale, all the jockeys who hadn’t ridden in the big race lined the mounting yard to applaud him. A genuine sporting gesture and on behalf of all the people of Murray Plains I congratulate Jye on his amazing success. 01.01.2022 STILL NO DETAIL ON SA BORDER CLOSURE Victoria's closed its border to SA, with a permit system to come in from 11.59pm Saturday night Daniel Andrews has had months to nut out the detail of any border closures, but yesterday's announcement only came with a pie in the sky promise they'll have the detail 'soon'...
