21.01.2022 As our Victorian members enter a 5 day lockdown from 11.59pm this evening, the following have been listed as 'essential providers' m. a pet store or veterinary clinic; or n. urgent services necessary for the health and safety of any person, animal or premises; The full table of restrictions can be accessed as a downloadable PDF at the bottom of the full statement from The Premier which can be viewed here (https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/statement-premier-85).

20.01.2022 The PIAA is calling for Victoria’s essential and emergency services legislation to be amended, to ensure that animal welfare is specifically defined as an essential service in any future state of emergency. It’s vitally important, in times of grave emergency, that meeting the basic health and welfare needs of Victoria’s domestic and companion animals does not depend on the discretion of ministers and officials, but is unambiguously legislated as a category of essential service.

20.01.2022 Boarding, Grooming and Pet services during the pandemic were seriously affected resulting in animal welfare complaints across the PIAA network. But in a crisis like this pandemic, these services are too easily under-valued when governments make decisions about what businesses can remain fully or partly open, and which cannot, The PIAA is calling for Victoria’s essential and emergency services legislation to be amended, to ensure that animal welfare is specifically defined as an essential service in any future state of emergency.

19.01.2022 As per the VIC Gov website, grooming salons in pet stores must not operate during the 5 day lockdown. We are still trying to find clarification if this also applies to home based and mobile groomers. https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/shopping-and-retail

17.01.2022 Our pets bring their owner’s immense love, joy and support which can be a lifeline during tumultuous times and hardships. Unless people at risk have access to wider community support and family networks that can assist in emergency situations, many pets will not get the care they so desperately need, and in many cases consequently leading to fatal outcomes. PIAA is also calling for Victoria’s essential and emergency services legislation to be amended after this emergency passes, to ensure that animal welfare is specifically defined as an essential service in any future state of emergency.

16.01.2022 Did you know that dog training is not permitted under stage 3 restrictions? With the surge of puppy and dog adoptions in response to the pandemic’s social restrictions, many of those animals need to be trained to behave both in and outside the household. As with walking, training is an activity that is conducted in the open. Provided social distancing and face covering requirements are met, training can be operated safely. This would also help minimise the possibility of pets being surrendered by owners now, or when the crisis passes, because they have become too difficult to manage.

15.01.2022 The NSW Business COVID-19 Research Survey (https://app.keysurvey.com/f/41489372/169b/) aims to provide the NSW Government with an understanding of the challenges businesses are facing as a result of the pandemic and the level of awareness of assistance available to help them now and post-COVID-19. Information gathered from this survey will help the NSW Government explore future improvements for businesses. Work has been done since COVID-19 started in Australia and this survey... will help to ensure we continue to support businesses during this challenging time. While survey responses are anonymous, we will share results with other Australian government agencies and stakeholders to make the case for positive change. Please note, this survey is being conducted by Micromex Research on behalf of NSW Treasury. You can provide feedback via the online survey (https://app.keysurvey.com/f/41489372/169b/) up until Monday 30 November 2020.

09.01.2022 The pandemic has seen a surge in dog adoptions, heightening the need for access to walking and training services. Dog walkers can provide an essential service for elderly and time poor clients while training is essential for not only puppies but for older dogs who have not been exposed to training. These services are essential. The PIAA is calling for Victoria’s essential and emergency services legislation to be amended to ensure that animal welfare is specifically defined as an essential service in any future state of emergency.

01.01.2022 AIAA and Underwater Pet Expo would like to introduce our third judge for the national aquascape qualifying competition: Dave Chow Mr. Chow was the Grand Prize ...winner of ADA International Aquatic Plant Layout Contest 2007, the first ever Hong Kong person to receive such honour. Starting from 2003, he has been participated in IAPLC year after year, not just for the prizes, but also for the experience, as well as to spread the concept of aquascape being a piece of living art. He introduced NA concept to Hong Kong through his company and has been bringing positive influence to the traditional market. Mr. Chow will continue to put his utmost effort in introducing this "Living Art" to the world and hold the firm belief that it will one day become a widely recognised art form, just as painting or sculpturing.
