24.01.2022 SIMPLIFYING SHORT STAY ACCOMMODATION The City is seeking feedback on our proposal to streamline the approvals process for low-impact short stay accommodation while giving greater guidance to holiday house hosts and ensuring good management of guests. Residents wanting to make their homes available to holidaymakers whether its to a couple in a town centre or a family house swap in a residential area currently need planning approval.... Under the proposed changes, people living in town centres or commercial areas would be able to rent out their homes to four guests, or one family, for up to three months in one year without the need for planning approval. To find out more and share your thoughts, visit our website below. www.vincent.wa.gov.au//simplifying-low-impact-house-/11327

23.01.2022 PUBLIC HEALTH PLAN | OPEN FOR COMMENT Were embarking on a major health kick - and we want your opinion on the goals weve set for ourselves. Our draft Public Health Plan will help us improve the health and wellbeing of our community members, giving them the opportunity to thrive and make healthy choices.... The plan includes a target to achieve smoke-free town centres by 2025. This would include main shopping, dining and entertainment strips in our town centres, to reduce peoples exposure to harmful second-hand tobacco smoke, discourage the normalising of smoking to young people and reduce litter from cigarette butts. In the proposed plan, designated smoking areas would allow people to smoke safely in well-lit areas and licensed venues with outdoor smoking areas will not be impacted. We are inviting community feedback on the draft Public Health Plan 2020-2025. To find out more visit Imagine Vincent below. www.imagine.vincent.wa.gov.au/public-health-plan

21.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK I KYILLA PRIMARY Kyilla Primary School has a long history of respecting and embracing Aboriginal heritage. Back in the 1940s, the P&C came up with the name ‘Kyilla’, which they understood was an Aboriginal word for ‘north’.... In the 1980s they chose a boomerang as the school logo and consulted with Noongar elders to develop the motto ‘To see and to understand’. The unveiling of a new logo during the school’s 75th birthday celebrations last month again paid tribute to traditional owners. The logo now includes the words Kata Djinung - the original Noongar translation of ‘To see and to understand’. It was another meaningful gesture from a primary school that has long celebrated the history and culture of First Nations people. We want to acknowledge the work of former Kyilla parent and local resident Julienne Bull, Principal Jo Hine and the whole Kyilla School community.
