24.01.2022 Pet professional and feeling a bit overwhelmed with the current health and economical situation? Join us for this webinar to learn how to cope with stress and build resilience! COVID-19 has brought with it not just a health crisis but also a social, economic, and mental health crisis as well. For Australians, already coping with the 2019/2020 bushfires, these truly are unprecedented and challenging times.... Some of you, who may have been feeling the effects of burnout well before COVID-19 may be feeling overwhelmed by these additional challenges. There may be others who have found the decrease in face to face business activities, that came with social distancing measures, a welcome relief. Still, there may be others who experience a range of positive and negative feelings in response to the pandemic or even feel a sense of numbness. In this webinar, we discuss stress reactions to COVID-19 including compassion fatigue. We will also cover science-backed ways to cope with stress, compassion fatigue, and uncertainty to build resilience. https://www.ppgaustralia.net.au/event-3900539

23.01.2022 When looking to add a new dog to the family, its important to factor in the dogs breed and what they were originally bred for. Yes, how they are treated is important but its also important to understand what might drive your dog and what their needs might be for that breed. Thanks to SpiritDog Trainingfor this graphic

Our dogs are the same. Some LOVE touch & cuddles, some are particularly un-tactile, and for many it depends on who/what/where! This is a comprehensive article looking at many of the situations in which dogs have spacial pressure from us - & some simple ways to switch that up, so ...that we listen to our dogs, and unwanted behaviours reduce. 12.01.2022 Puppy Biting "I understand that puppies are teething but the biting really hurts " Teething is real and whilst humans cry and get temperatures . Puppies get on with it, trying to find thin objects, they can use to wriggle their wobbly tooth with. Objects that are hard, like an apple or carrot can be used to get the sore tooth to fall out. Textured objects are used to grind their gums against, to alleviate the pain and swelling of the new tooth moving up through the gum. Un...derstanding this and how this effects our pups moods will help us be more tolerant but also allow us to set up our pups area to give them more teething relief. Give them a safe place to rest, surround them with ridiculous amounts and varieties of materials to explore with their mouths. Utilise the enrichment toys you have or make some Refrigerate kibble and teeth toys. Be still and let them sleep. .

08.01.2022 Thursday Theory Great read from Dog Educated The dog training industry is still unregulated! in recent years, a blog being circulated via social media bemoaning the increasingly academic nature of dog training started with the telling of a conversation between the author and a training colleague who asked what operant conditioning is. His response to her explanation was, Why cant you just train the damn dog? This question became a mantra throughout, the author insistin...g it really didnt matter if these professional dog trainers knew the fancy words or what they meant (just to feel legitimate in conversations with other trainers), so long as they got results. In fact, the pressure to learn it was deemed offensive because that meant losing valuable time. This author is not alone. The suggestion that science is unnecessary in dog training isnt new, but the implied integrity in the dismissal of it is, and its popping up a lot lately. Surely, thats not the optimal direction for this already disastrous industry to trend. https://dogeducated.com/more-than-fancy-words/

02.01.2022 Our next webinar is for the cat lovers! presented by Andrea Carne from Cattitude - Cat Behaviour Consultant Thinking INSIDE the box - the importance of enrichment and choice for cats 24 September 2020 7 pm.... "A happy cat is a healthy cat" ... seems such a simple statement, but it has so much depth. Join me this month as I share some recent research that may surprise you: cats actually like their humans more than you think and they rely on us more than you imagine. Unfortunately, we humans dont repay this bond as much as we should. Let me show you what enrichment means in a cats world and how, by increasing it on a range of levels, we can enhance our cats comfort and sense of control. In so doing, we lower their stress levels and subsequently decrease the likelihood of stress-related health concerns and behavioural issues. https://www.ppgaustralia.net.au/event-3825809 Andrea Carne

02.01.2022 Nice idea for our cat and kitten owners

02.01.2022 Sending thanks to our friends at PawesomeDogs.Com for this great analogy. And remember trading up doesnt necessarily mean food, it could be toys or games or other high value reinforcements, it just needs to be something your dog considers fair trade.
