They had a lovely picnic outside on this fine spring day chatting about how they can use the spring weather for their motion/cause & effect theme. 16.01.2022 It took a while to dry and paint, but during Recycling Week and NAIDOC Week the pre-kindy and kindy classes made their own paper from bits and pieces from the recycle bin. They started by ripping it all up, adding water and letting it soak, they then gave it a good blend to soften it enough to make it into a pliable paste. They spread it out into a big thin sheet of oblong paper and left it to dry. The drying process took the longest but if finally dried af...ter a few days and they were able to paint it. Seeing they already had a big painted Torres Strait Island Flag, they decided to paint this hand made paper in the Aboriginal Flag colours. While the paint was out they also decided to do some free hand painting using some remembered tracks and symbols as their inspiration. It was a fun, inclusive and informative project that the children really got into, well done guys. #naidocweek2020 #recyclingweek #culturalinclusions #raindropsofdiversity See more
15.01.2022 Welcome to Daffdil Day, where we show our support for the cancer council by painting our service yellow! Today the Kindy and Pre-Kindy children had some conversations about what daffodil day means to them, about what a daffodil looks like and then they also extended their conversations and interest onto what letter of the alphabet the word Daffodil starts with?? The letter "D", they practised the shape of the letter D and did some dot paintings around it and then created their very own interpretation of a Daffodil using their hands and yellow paint.
14.01.2022 Yesterday we had our seventh Raindrops of Diversity coaching and mentoring classroom visit from Aunty Janice and Cecelia. This session was focused on birds, and how they got their colours. Aunty Janice told us a lovely dream time story about the different species of birds and the trees, plants and waterways that support their life. The story itself is about teaching the children respect and responsibilities about how we need to look after our land & water as... a positive support structure for our birds food life. Cecelia told us about her local Torres Strait Island bird, the White Pigeon, or their traditional name "Gainau" (Gau-now) As a group the children did a paper mache pigeon, they start with a wire shape that they layered with paper until completely covered. And then at the end of the day when all the children had gone home and the teachers were left they had their professional conversations workshop and got into finishing off the pigeons with white paper mache to look like the Gainau. 12.01.2022 White Balloon Day Today we end Child Protection Week on a high with Bravehearts White Balloon Day that is all about raising awareness on child sexual assault and exploitation! All children have a right to feel safe, child abuse is never a childs fault! It is always the responsibility of adults to keep children safe from harm.
12.01.2022 Child Safety Tip of the Day Use everyday activities such as playing, shopping, preparing meals etc as opportunities for conversations with your children. If children are used to having lots of communication, it can make it easier and more comfortable for them to talk when big or tricky issues come up.

11.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all our wonderful dads out there, we hope you have a fantastic and special day!
10.01.2022 For Thanksgiving over the last two days we have been working on what we are thankful for and exploring our senses with turkey hand print painting. The children were very forth coming with what they were thankful for with most of them saying they were thankful for their "family", or their "mum" or "Dad". Some mentioned their animals or their siblings too which is great to hear, it seemed to be a very close to home thankful year this year round. 08.01.2022 The pre-kindy and kindergarten children explored Australian animals and their footprints today. This then extended onto drawing aboriginal symbols in the sand with their fingers. Much fun was had.

07.01.2022 As an extension from the turkey hand print painting for thanksgiving and the marble painting from the other day the children did a fantastic creative piece of art work as a group, using balls and some wonderful coloured paints. The group really like getting into the sensory part of painting and this was a great way for them to explore it. In the marble painting from the other day the children identified the rolling effect from the marbles looked like a serpent so today they were eager to see what patterns they made. Some of the children even remembered the aboriginal and Torres Strait colours as well as some symbols, of which the most remembered was the waterhole/campsite that they drew into the paint. #raindropsofdiversity #culturalinclusions
