25.01.2022 Meet Gypsy A new mum who was brought into our PETstock VET Gosford clinic after she was struggling to deliver her kittens. After being admitted to our clinic, X-rays confirmed Gypsy had two babies still in her stomach, which she was unable to deliver. Dr Leah and Dr Graeme decided to perform a C-section to ensure the safe delivery of the remaining two kittens. All was a success during the procedure, with the entire kitten crew now safe and healthy. We love an ending (or beginning) like this

25.01.2022 Poor Kasey visited our PETstock VET Cannington clinic recently, after a very nasty wound to her thigh. It was unknown how the injury occurred, but it was quickly stitched up on the first visit. Unfortunately, due to the location of injury (which sees lots of movement of the skin), Kasey returned the very next day with wound dehiscence, and breakdown had occurred The team at Cannington re-sutured the wound and Penrose drain placed. The very same thing happened after the se...cond visit. So, with some creative thinking, Dr Ivan provided Kasey with a tie-over bandage - success! Kasey has since been visiting for bandage changes but is well on the way to recovery

21.01.2022 Meet Ollie He's 7 years old and a regular patient at PETstock VET Bunbury. He absolutely adores nurse Nikki, and has followed her around the North, Mid and Southwest. Ollie is being treated with 4cyte (a joint supplement), due to having a repaired cruciate and because of some excess weight he is carrying (we're working on that ). This treatment has helped Ollie get back out enjoying his favourite long walks on the beach, along with other activities. 17.01.2022 Meet Tweety Tweety recently visited our PETstock VET Gosford Clinic after her owner noticed she was losing weight. Her physical examination was reasonably healthy, so Dr Emilee ran additional tests to check her faeces for parasites and a crop wash (flushing the crop and aspirating the contents to examine under the microscope). Her faecal float was clear, but the crop wash showed multiple pear-shaped mobile structures known as Trichomonas. ... Trichomoniasis or Canker are caused by a flagellated protozoan, which causes damage to the intestinal tract and crop. It can result in weight loss and vomiting. With quick diagnosis and treatment, Miss Tweety should recover well with some antibiotics. Another day, another beautiful patient

14.01.2022 Meet Miss Daisy She recently visited our Rouse Hill Clinic for bladder stones to be removed, which was a complete success and big relief to her humans. Now she's at home, recovering well. We wish her all the very best! Signs of bladder stones include: ... Urinating small amounts very frequently. Blood in the urine. Discoloured urine. Discomfort and difficulty urinating. Bloated or sensitive stomach. Avoidance of exercise. Pain in the kidney area. If your dog is showing any of these symptoms, please contact your local vet for further tests and investigation.

11.01.2022 Did you know that out of the 42 teeth in your dog's mouth, we can only examine 34 of those teeth whilst they are awake? Archer, a registered Assistance Dog (swoon!) recently proved the value of a thorough dental examination under anesthetic. Booked in for a Grade 1 dental scale and polish at PETstock VET North Lakes, the most important part of Archer's procedure was the oral examination. While Dr Jess checked his teeth, back of his throat, the roof of his mouth and under... his tongue, she noticed a growth on his gums. Archer's mum wanted the very best for her special dog, so the lump was removed and sent away to a veterinary pathologist. Luckily for Archer, it was a benign growth, which only requires monitoring at this point - but it could have been much worse. Archer has now recovered well and is happily showing off his pearly whites

09.01.2022 Meet Millie, who recently visited for a routine spay During surgery, as Dr Abbie White was examining the gastrointestinal tract, she felt an unusual firm swollen section of the intestine. Dr Abbie explored further and discovered a foreign object. This ended up being seed from a peach, which had somehow lodged itself in the intestine. ... What was supposed to be a routine spay turned into a spay and laparotomy. Lucky for Millie the seed was identified, and she has now fully recovered

06.01.2022 Meet Frankie, the parrot. This little guy came into our North Lakes clinic with a painful, swollen foot. Through a quick investigation it was found that the source of swelling was due to a tight leg band, that was cutting off his circulation. Side note: Leg bands are often applied by breeders to identify chicks, but as the bird grows, the band can become dangerously tight. If not addressed early, birds can lose their feet. In this case, it was a smooth process of removing the band with a surgical drill, leaving Frankie much happier.

05.01.2022 Surgery success Six month old Australian Bulldog, Lainie, recently visited PETstock Waurn Ponds for BOAS surgery. - BOAS stands for Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome. It is a group of conditions resulting from the body conformation of the squishy faced breeds, as they quite often have a shortened head in relation to their airway passage. Due to their conformation, they struggle to breathe, especially during exercising, and are often more prone to collapsing an...d overheating. Lainie's parents had already completed research on this type of surgery well before she reached six months of age, and decided it was the right way forward. It was Dr Adrian Wallace, a registered specialist surgeon, who undertook the corrective surgery. After multiple procedures, including shortening her soft palate and widening of her nostrils, she recovered well. This beautiful girl was sent home the very same afternoon, and has since had a few post operation check ups. She's back to her happy self!

Speak to your local vet if you're unsure about the specifics.

03.01.2022 Missy breathes easier again Little Missy was rushed into PETstock VET North Lakes, as her family had noticed she was very quiet, not eating, and had started breathing with her mouth open. Dr Jess found she was unable to get enough oxygen from room air, so was immediately given medicine to help her relax, then placed into a special oxygen tent. Her examination found that she had dull-sounding lungs, difficulty breathing in, and a heart murmur. It was found that Missy h...ad a life-threatening build-up of fluid around her lungs called a pleural effusion (or 'water on the lungs'). This made it impossible for her to inflate her lungs. As Missy deteriorated fast, Dr Jess performed an emergency thoracentesis, which is a sterile procedure where a needle is passed into the chest cavity to drain the fluid. Over 50ml of liquid was removed from her chest cavity! Once the fluid was removed, Missy immediately began to feel better and was transported to an emergency after-hours veterinary hospital for monitoring overnight. After an ultrasound, it was revealed that Missy had a heart condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). She started treatment immediately, and we're happy to say that Missy has made a good recovery.

03.01.2022 "My girl Rosie, who gets regular dental cleans, was recently booked in for a Grade 1 Dental Clean. During this check, a slab tooth fracture was found and quickly treated. She is now happier than ever, and keeps her teeth clean with a dental diet and daily Greenies treats." Like humans, dental checks are SUPER important for long term health of teeth and gums. And, unlike humans, dogs can't always communicate the source of their pain. Always be on top of your dog's dental care routine.

01.01.2022 The case of Daisy the duck Daisy visited PETstock VET Gosford after her owners noticed she was a little bit sore on her feet. After an examination with our vets, she was found to have Bumblefeet! Bumblefoot is the infection and inflammation of the foot, or in this case, feet! It can be caused by a number of problems including trauma, diet and/or husbandry. With a little bit of tweaking of Daisy's home care, some very cute foot bandages and surgery to debulk the worst of the lesions, we expect Daisy to make a full recovery. She was a model patient in hospital and enjoyed lots of attention
