Here are some reminders we have found useful even for ourselves here at the pharmacy Please check the expiry dates of the medications in your child's medication kit - includes epinephrine auto-injectors, "salbutamol" puffers , antihistamines, pain relief etc and replace them accordingly. ... Label all your children's medications with your child's name. Ensure that action plans are up to date eg. ASCIA anaphylaxis / allergy / asthhma action plans with recent photo of child and review with relevant doctor for school and also after school care or child care if need . Providing updated instruction sheets for how to use devices like inhalers and spacers in the kit might be useful as well. Did you know " Epipen" autoinjectors can be held in place for 3 seconds instead of 10 seconds? Please keep all devices and spacer together, with caps closed to reduce chance of debris getting into the devices. Double check the size of your child's mask for use when needing the spacer, as they come in different sizes. Remind your child's teacher / teaching team about their allergies or medical conditions & that you have filled in any relevant forms to notify the school / class of these details. Consider non-food related treats for birthdays and celebrations in class - bubbles , fun "Band-aids", balloons, mini story books, fun activity sheets etc - to reduce chance of reactions.
