25.01.2022 SWARA Over the past years @holdfastbay @cityofmarion and @cityofonkaparinga have been working in collaboration to redevelop our waste facility to a nation...al leading resource recovery location. Our jointly owned site down South operates 2 renewable power plants ( methane and solar) and is expanding to provide power to 2,400 homes. We are now looking to expand even bigger to build a plant that can sort plastics to a higher grade, concrete and glass to provide road base for Councils, establishing a circular economy industry zone which will collaborate with local innovators and businesses to produce products from the recovered plastic, glass and paper and more. It is one of the most exciting projects in the state. We are delighted that @trevorevansmp and Nicolle Flint visited the site to see our vision first hand. We look forward to this helping to pivot our state economy to a circular one and benefitting our environment in the most profound ways. This is the future. @stephenpattersonmp @davidspeirsmp @corey_wingard_mp @scottmorrisonmp See more

24.01.2022 In the glorious winter sunshine, volunteers gathered at the Seacliff and Kingston Park dunes to do their bit for the environment as part of National Tree Day! ... Thanks to everyone who helped make this event a great success as part of Trees For Life (SA)s Reclaim the Dunes projects, which received grant funding from the Australian Governments Communities Environment Program.

24.01.2022 #BREAKING: South Australians will face tougher coronavirus restrictions at in-home gatherings and licensed venues from midnight tomorrow night. The Premier Stev...en Marshall said the limit on home gatherings would decrease from 50 to 10, while pubs, bars and restaurants will only be able to serve alcohol to patrons who are seated. Mr Marshall said the states transition committee is looking very closely at density arrangements at venues, numbers at sporting events like football, and arrangement for fitness studios. We will continue to act swiftly and be ahead of the game to keep our state safe. We dont want to see the types of lock-downs that are occurring in Victoria now return to SA- so we are going to try and do everything to be ahead of the game. The state has also recorded two new COVID-19 cases today. More info: https://ab.co/33lXqwK

19.01.2022 Well the wheels fell off today and there was nothing I could do about it. But with the help of Max and Brett at Mannum Slipway I was able to get the old trailer up to Maxs Son Jason at Mannums Spark Ur Engine to be fixed. Made me think...its a bit like a #mentalhealthcrisis ... Sometimes the wheels fall off. Theres no use trying to keep driving, it needs to be fixed. Reach out/accept help from your friends & family and if thats not possible or comfortable give a help line like Lifeline a call (13 11 14). It may be all you need is a chat, or you might benefit from a visit to a professional to get that spark back in your engine! Its all normal and youll be back on the road in due course. Making sure theres awareness and help is available when needed costs money, and if youd like to help keep that going why not consider donating to #Movember via the #DistinguishedGentlemansRide at https://gfolk.me/philipchabrel #mentalhealth #suicideprevention #suicideawarness #mentalhealthfirstaid #Lifeline

19.01.2022 As frightening as this graphic is, the fact in stark relief for me is as awful as Covid-19 is, it took until 14/05/20 for the number of fatalities to overtake Suicide as the leading cause of death worldwide. Covid will pass but suicide remains an intractable problem facing people, particularly men, year in year out.

15.01.2022 This is how the new Brighton Lacrosse Club building looks today thanks to the $13.7 redevelopment of Brighton Oval but throw back some 60 years to see how t...he clubrooms once looked. The club itself was established in 1929 and during the 1950s-60s, lacrosse was played on the Hove ground, on the corner of Wattle and Colton Avenues. On game days, someone had to move the cows, and remove the cow manure, from the ground prior to a match. An ex-bathing shed from Brighton beach was the clubs first building but that was soon replaced by a new facility, built by volunteer labourers. It opened in 1961 to much fanfare. The building was extended several times and has now been replaced by a two-storey building which can be enjoyed by the whole community. #ThrowbackThursday www.brightonoval.com.au

12.01.2022 Its been watching over Glenelg beach for 140 years and now, with its facelift almost complete, weve had a rare glimpse inside the Town Hall clock tower to see... what makes it tick. The clock tower, domed roof and wind vane were added to the building in the late 1880s, and the clocks original mechanisms are safely tucked away in a glass cabinet, and are still in working order. Behind the scaffolding, which has been up since October last year, the clock faces have been recast and new glass installed and will soon be unveiled after a few more finishing touches are made. 11.01.2022 Environmentally-friendly, plastic-free tree guards - which are used to protect newly-planted trees and shrubs - are being trialled for the first time in Holdfas...t Bay. A few of the cardboard guards are already in place just north of the Seacliff Surf Life Saving club, with more going in at Gilbertson Gully to replace some of the plastic tree guards currently in use. Made from waste materials from the timber industry, the cardboard tree guards are recyclable, biodegradable and made in Australia. If the trial has good outcomes, more will be used in the future.

09.01.2022 Lest we forget... Last night I received unanimous support for my motion for City of Holdfast Bay, in conjunction with key community leaders, to develop a proposal for an interactive memorial to the mental health impacts of war and conflict on our service personnel. The memorial would seek to generate greater understanding and recognition, reduce stigma and promote harm minimisation and healing.
