21.01.2022 To all you legends who came and supported us last night, I thank you from the bottom of my little heart. I hope we repaid your support in spades w/ an supercharged performance. Everyone in the band had a blast! x
18.01.2022 Opening for this talented chap this coming Saturday at the Bearded Lady in West End, then I'm playing geetar in his band. Should be a great night folks, come down if you're up for it. x
18.01.2022 Got an arvo gig at The Triffid Americana sessions tomorrow (Sat 4th). Kicks off around 2pm, I'll be joined onstage by electric guitar-man Browny to help make some noise. Come down for beer. And Americana music. And beer.
17.01.2022 Shooting the next vid this week for a song called Lying In The Dust.
15.01.2022 Bandcamp are having a 24hr 'royalty' holiday from 5pm this Saturday June 6 (aest). That means us artists get 100% of the proceeds of any album sales or digital downloads. Which is fantastic, as none of us have been able to gig for a while. This is a video from my 2014 album Year Of The Dog, shot by a good friend of mine Craig Stuart. The album got great reviews here and overseas. ... If you feel like you need some late night Americana in your life, this could be just the ticket. If you're looking for more of a '70's country-rock 'n' roll (Creedence/ Stones/ Neil Young) thing to kick off your weekend then '1,2,3,4...' might be more your style. Both albums are available at www.philsmithmusic.bandcamp.com as cd, digital download or even 12" vinyl (1,2,3,4...) There's plenty of other fantastic independent artists on Bandcamp, so if you're looking to add to your music collection, this is a great weekend to do it. For little more than the price of a coffee. x
12.01.2022 The last time I played at MAC, I introduced a couple of the songs with the stories behind them, and got a lot of good feedback on them, I'm guessing because people paid more attention to the lyrics and understood more of what the song was about. Kind of like a Nashville round. I know I've listened to many a song and wished I knew a bit of the backstory. Anyway, Greg Wells, all his songs have great stories behind them - generally about Tassie folks and the wilderness. We got chatting about storytelling, and came up with the idea for this night, back at MAC. It's a cracking listening venue, so if you like songs that tell a good story come down and join us this coming Saturday. Kicks off at 630. x
11.01.2022 Some pics from last weekends gig at the Hobart Brewing Co. Was a bit nerve wracking, having only all met the week before, but we had a blast and no one threw any empties at us. Win!
07.01.2022 48 hours, this coming Friday night at Junk Bar, Ashgrove. x
03.01.2022 Pretty stoked to be playing support on this bill for my good mate Simon Munro's album launch. Jamie at the Junk Bar is renowned for pulling one of the most intimate live sounds you'll ever hear, and I'll be re-visiting material from my 2014 album Year Of The Dog with my good mate and long time partner in crime Morgan Hann joining me on keys. It's been a while since I've been able to play songs from this album, which received 4+ star reviews here and overseas, so if intimacy d...oesn't make you squirm, and you like haunting, delicate songs about loss (no love songs, I can promise you that) then this'll be your cup of tea. Mr Jimmy Beavis aka The Wicked Messenger will be kicking off proceedings. Although I would love to be playing under a pseudonym, I've never been able to find one that doesn't make me feel slightly anxious, so I'll just be playing as Phil Smith. Come down if you're free, it's gonna be a beaut gig! x See more
03.01.2022 Opening this album launch of Melissa's, next Friday night at the Old Museum. Got a bunch of new songs, should be an entertaining night. Grab a buddy and come down if you're free. Love to see you there. x
02.01.2022 Tomorrow night, 7pm at The Old Museum. Melissa Fraser's new album Stay On The Road is ABC 612's Album of The Week this week. Rehearsals with the 9 piece band are sounding kick ass. I'm opening with a trio from 7.30pm. $15 on the door. It's lid friendly, and there's a bar. Come on down if you're free. Gregory Terrace, Bowen Hills. Lots of street parking around. x
