25.01.2022 Next time you carve a spoon, put a little dimple on the handle where your thumb goes. Is it just me, or does that feel a little too good? This dimple is an elaborate one with a heart carved through it....feels extra good. The wood is spalted ash.

25.01.2022 Gold heart finial?

24.01.2022 We are looking forward to taking part in this fantastic Art and Wine trail on the 4th, 5th and 6th of December. 23.01.2022 Working on some salvaged Huon pine spoons. A combination of beautiful pale golds and grey/gold where decades of moisture exposure as a trough has taken its toll.

23.01.2022 A small kuksa, carved from locally salvaged alder. Green would probably be my favourite colour......I think. Reminds me of being in a peaceful forest

22.01.2022 Alder kuksa with a whales tail handle.

22.01.2022 I had an idea. It came to me a couple of years ago, but I didn't possess the skills to follow through. Then about a year back I fortuitously discovered @leejohnphillips He has the skills in abundance as is evident from what you see here. This gifted artist, and fellow spoon carver, has transformed one of my quirky photos into a monochrome artwork. Beautiful work Lee. We've got some exciting plans for this masterpiece, so watch this space......

20.01.2022 The spoon fan. We've just added these to our web store if you're looking for a special gift or some self indulgence. www.phoenixcreationstasmaniashop.bigcartel.com

20.01.2022 A calm morning. There are countless tiny sandy beaches dotted around our rocky coastal fringe. Visible only from the water or a short walk. From a spot like this it's not hard to imagine what it was like before the custodians of this land, the Palawa, were invaded. This area, Talune was not vacant land when Lutruwita, Tasmania was colonised in our not too distant past.

18.01.2022 One of my happy places.

18.01.2022 ***NB only 2 spots left*** We're running three Sunday workshops in November, on the 8th, 22nd and 29th. To keep you distanced we're limiting each workshop to three carvers. If you're keen to learn how to carve your own spoon, just DM us to confirm a place. All tools and materials provided, as well as a lovely home made morning tea. ... See you soon See more

18.01.2022 I met this gem a long time ago and today we've been married for 21 years. While I get to do all the fun bits in our micro business like play with axes and whittle in the sun, she does all the real work behind the scenes. The things a business needs doing to survive. Every business needs a Michelle. Happy anniversary sweetie Huon Valley Council

17.01.2022 I'm going big with this ladle. It's rare for me to get pear wood with significant diameter. This ladle is possible as I've been generously been given some limbs and lower trunk of a removed 75 year old blurred bosc tree. A beautiful timber to carve. If all goes well, it'll be the biggest ladle I've pulled off. Fingers crossed.

17.01.2022 Simple pleasures. A small piece pruned from our pear tree immortalised as this heart scoop. Waiting for colour inspiration, if any? The simplicity of an undecorated spoon handle has its attractions.

15.01.2022 Shop update is now live. Head over to www.phoenixcreationstasmaniashop.bigcartel.com to purchase some goodies

15.01.2022 I love olives and this little ladle is for getting them out of a jar or bowl without excessive liquid. Made with a pear crook which started out as a cooking spoon...problems changed my plans to an eating spoon...more problems led me to this little guy.

15.01.2022 As you may have noticed, we're fans of a little colour when it comes to spoon handles. When colour indecision occurs..... These are Tasmanian Blackwood and will be part of an upcoming web ahop update.

13.01.2022 My happy place. When you carve, all else disappears and you fall into a meditative plane. Only the wood, guiding you away from your daily cares.

12.01.2022 The beurre bosc ladle making me work real hard. Too big to comfortably use my normal grips but I muddled through. Now the wait as it sits in some wood shavings for a spell.

11.01.2022 Due to a cancellation we have 2 spots available in our Spoon Carving Workshop on Thursday November 12th, 10am-3pm, $160. Come and join us for a day of carving ...bliss. 08.01.2022 Bent limb hawthorn Sunday spoon. A series of photos showing the basic roughing out. It's going to be a nice one with some figure through the bowl.

06.01.2022 We're on a short break. Visiting new parts of our island home. Of course there's a bag of wood and tools to relax with. This Gladstone bag is my companion for those endeavours. Perfect capacity and style in spades. First holiday spoon carved on the verandah in the fresh morning air, is a native cherry scoop. It'll be ready for a clean up and oil on our return to Cygnet.

05.01.2022 Little 'Mt Lyell no'5' being turned in the rainforest.

04.01.2022 Making choc chips with some fresh Tasmanian Blackwood.

03.01.2022 We are involved in this great Art and Wine Trail, come and join us

02.01.2022 Small shop update can be found in our web store. Happy weekend all.

02.01.2022 'Do you have any masks with spoons?' No, but......within the shortest time Leah @bouddi_masks had lino cut a pattern and voilà. Spoon masks. Custom made just for us and maybe you if you'd like. We're so lucky in Tasmania. No covid cases in months, but have these just in case.

02.01.2022 Bitter-sweet. Old growth Tasmanian Blackwood. This tree was standing before the white man arrived and stole this island from the Palawa. Some of the best I've ever carved....rescued from a friends firewood pile.
