08.01.2022 THE BIG FIX - Are our kids playing or being PLAYED As we enter the pointy end of the water polo season and the more cunning coaches eye off the next two weeks of competition and predict who they may or not play in the crossovers - are we going to see coaches "Throw" games to give themselves a more favourable run at a gold medal game? Is it already happening? Are teams manipulating results to make a more favourable run at finals. ... I'm not even into conspiracy theories - but the more I view this subjective sport the more I realise that the kids and parents are not just playing but also being PLAYED at times when it suits. So - Does a coach bring the team into "The Fix" or do they just run it solo and leave the parents and players to wonder why they just lost a completely winnable game? Once you are in on the Fix - you need to lie like a black dog to everyone after the game about why and what factors apparently just led to the unlikely loss? (Kids don't want to play to lose) Does the athlete ever get told why they just lost? What is it teaching our kids? Tony Azevedo tells the story at the 2008 Olympic games where Serbia threw a game to play the USA in the Semis - avoiding Hungary. Well USA won that semi 10-5 and went on to win the Olympic Silver medal. It doesn't always pay off but sometimes it does! Is it OK to manipulate results so another team from your club them makes the playoffs? Maybe this is all just good strategy and it's a coaches call! Or maybe we need to remenber the motto of our sport THINK ACT PLAY. The dude in the photo is on 3 charges for fixing college sport - look out for him at a pool this weekend.

03.01.2022 #AYWPC2020 U14 Barra boys head for the Gold medal match. Beating Sydney Uni Lions in Playoffs 11-5. Boom!

02.01.2022 Complete absence of Training opportunities in Brisbane / QLD I have three kids that play junior water polo and apart from club training twice a week for 1.5 - 2.0 hrs there is nowhere - (apart from being in the NL team) at any level to obtain additional training. Two trainings a week does not allow you to be competitive at 14,15,16. You cannot even turn up to a pool and practice shooting at a goal (outside of training times). Some families are choosing to play for two clu...bs to get extra training. A two month state program is 1/6 of the year. Not sure how we expect our kids to keep up! I'm really concerned for all our kids and seek your advice!

02.01.2022 #AYWPC2020 Father son coaching combination Peter and Will Downes take a group of boys to the U14 Gold Medal match. The fruits of 24 months of work. We thank you!
