23.01.2022 Recent research by Dr May and her colleagues has been presented in the NY Times, finally giving us proof that fit mums have fit babies! According to Mays findings babies hearts most likely speed up and synchronise with their mothers during exercise, allowing these foetus to enjoy the same heart health benefits. Other new findings by May include increased coordination in babies of an experimental group where mothers participated in exercise, involving improved results in grip, jostle and rolling coordination! 17.01.2022 A great post with some handy tips for healthy mums #Repost @adelefitmomof4 with @get_repost TAG LIKE SAVE... . Now ladies, you can crunch until the cows come home, but if you arent paying attention to your diet, youll never and I mean never see results! Have you heard of the saying, "abs are cooked in the kitchen?" Well - theres way more truth to that saying than you thought! You can target your abs and core with certain exercises that help with the muscles in that area, but you also need to lose overall body fat to see the definition in those abdominal muscles and that requires a combination of diet and exercise. . The Facts on Belly Fat More important than what you see in the mirror, belly fat can carry big implications for your health. There are two kinds of fat. First, theres subcutaneous fat, which sits right under the skinit might not be gorgeous, but its relatively harmless. Then, theres visceral fat, which packs in around your organs, and comes with real health concerns. Visceral fat can increase your risk for heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. You may be at higher risk if your waist is more than 40 inches (102 centimeters) for men or 35 inches (88 centimeters) for women, especially if youre apple shaped. . Key Foods: (digestive freindly) -Arugula, dark leafy greens -Celery, cucumber, beets, romaine, radishes, asparagus -Avocado and other healthy fats -Grass-fed meat -Plant based protein @gardenoflifecanada (I love adding this to my smoothies with key ingredients such as: cinnamon, banana, mint, basil and berries) . Avoid: -Salty foods (water retention) -Sugar! Highly acidic -Gluten and wheat (sticks to the gut walls)! -Eating too much food or carbs before bed (allow your body to regenerate instead of metabolizing food at rest) -Over-training & stress - can lead to cortisol build up (belly-fat) . Heres a weekend workout you can do right at home! Youll definitely feel this in your core! Ask my hubby @thomaskiriakou (hes been doing my core workouts with me) and lets just say, hes having some challenges tieing his shoes! . Perform this routine for 15 minutes! See more

14.01.2022 Looking for guidance on exercise during pregnancy? Refer back to this chart! 5 x 30 minutes of exercises per week can sound like a lot! But, it means 150 minutes per week of moderate intensity exercise.... This means you dont have to be pushing yourself really hard in the gym, but doing activities that raise your heart rate. Which could be chores around the house, taking a pet for a walk or any fun activities that you wouldnt regard as working out, but get your heart pumping! Plus, the chart recommends muscle strengthening activities twice a week. Again, you dont have to be lifting massive weights in the gym! If youre ever unsure, refer back to this chart and most importantly, make hitting that 150 minute target fun!

05.01.2022 Why do I have sudden severe back pain and what should I do?? As Physios we get asked this question a lot! Most lower back pain causes are musculoskeletal in origin, also known as non-specific low back pain. The causes of lower back pain usually fall into either a sudden or sustained overstress injury. The first thing you should do however, is see an evidenced based physiotherapist (such as ourselves) where your trusted physio can rule out a more sinister reason for back pain. From here we can refer you onto a medical professional if there is a different reason for your pain, however in most cases we help to settle muscle spasm symptoms and address the musculoskeletal cause! Let us then create a program for your physical health to prevent pain in the future! blog.myfitnesspal

01.01.2022 You would, wouldnt you? #Repost @physioforwomen_ with @get_repost Have you seen a Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist for a 4-6 week postpartum check? ... . Imagine you have just torn your hamstring... it would be painful, hard to walk, maybe swollen or bruised. You would rehab that right? . Now think about your Pelvic Floor. Youve had bub putting pressure on it for the last several weeks, plus you have delivered bub either vaginally or via cesarean. . Either way your Pelvic Floor has had to deal with extra load compared to what it was previously used to. If you delivered bub vaginally, your Pelvic Floor has been stretched +++ and maybe even torn . You wouldnt ignore a hamstring tear, so please dont ignore your Pelvic Floor! . Your Pelvic Floor needs to be rehabilitated to restore function ASAP following the birth of your new pride and joy . Learning how to use your Pelvic Floor again & strengthening is extremely important for pelvic health and function, especially if you are wishing to return to exercise or sport. . A Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist will assess your pelvic floor and provide an individualized program to help you achieve your goals . #physio2mums #wecometoyou #homephysio #physioforwomen #womenshealth #womenshealthphysio #physioforwomen #physio #physiotherapy #rachelfittphysiotherapy #women #girltalk #health #fitness #pregnancy #pelvicfloor #pelvicfloorphysio #sexualpain #pelvicpain #endometriosis #prolapse #pelvicorganprolapse #postnatal #birth #labour #exercise #safeexercisesformums See more
