25.01.2022 World Continence Week Day #3: Why you need to invest in your pelvic floor We're exploring what the pelvic floor is, how and why to train it, when it may be at risk, and why all of this is even more important as you get older. #InvestInContinence #5healthyhabits #WCW2020

23.01.2022 Excellent article, very comprehensive review. Details the complexity of this pathology that can be so hard to treat. Its all about load.

17.01.2022 The importance of maintaining a reasonable weight cannot be overemphasized in decreasing the loads on the body.

17.01.2022 Recovery after tendinopathy is all about appropriate loading, not too much or too little. This is a great diagram to explain just what this means ie: what is acceptable and in what time period after your effort. You still need to be patient as tendons can take some time to heal but information like this does allow you to manage a gradual return to sport in a safer way.

15.01.2022 The effects of Gluteus muscle strengthening exercise and Lumbar (Lx) stabilization exercise on Lx muscle strength & balance in CLBP patients. Conclusion: Clini...cal application of exercise in this study showed that Lx segmental stabilization exercise plus exercise to strengthen the muscles of the gluteus resulted in a greater decrease in LBP disability index and increase in Lx muscle strength & balance ability than Lx segmental stabilization exercise in CLBP patients receiving the exercise treatments during the same period. Clinical implications: In exercise therapy programs for CLBP patients, adding hip muscle strengthening exercise to Lx segmental stabilization exercise will be very helpful for rehabilitation and maintenance of smooth daily life. 15.01.2022 Cycling, great for knee pain! Well mostly. In the world of rehabilitation/physiotherapy cycling is often prescribed as a great way to build quads strength without aggravating sore and painful joints. Mostly this is true but even in the good knee cycling can also cause pain if your cycle training is not approached in the correct way. The attached article has some great ideas, certainly many points relevant to patients that I have seen in the clinic and on the bike. Good luck and enjoy your cycling, painfree of course. http://www.bicycling.com//7-ways-youre-hurting-you/slide/3

13.01.2022 TISSUE HEALING A very useful chart from Dr. Caleb Burgess DPT, OCS, CSCS One of the most common issues I encounter when helping people recover from... an injury or from surgery is of the healing times of various tissues. Everyone wants to be better NOW, but this isnt realistic. Tissue healing takes TIME. We cant rush it. And its important to understand that tissues heal at different rates depending on their physical makeup and blood supply, among other things. Additional contributing factors, such as diabetes, age, poor nutrition, inadequate rest, etc can further delay the healing process. . This chart shows the AVERAGE range of healing times for various tissues in the body, including different grades of tissue injury for muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It can serve not only as a guide but also a reminder that we cant force our bodies to heal faster than physiologically possible. What we can do is OPTIMIZE the healing process by rehabbing appropriately, eating high quality food, getting adequate rest, and staying PATIENT and POSITIVE throughout the journey. Axe MJ, et al. 13.01.2022 Indeed, from driving ads we are well aware of changing reaction times leading to car accidents when fatigued. Discoordination in sport and dance can of course lead to irregular stresses on the body secondary to poor muscle recruitment patterns. When this occurs our soft tissues are stressed beyond their physical threshold limitations and we get injured. Its always good to incorporate rest days to allow recovery and decrease injury risks.

13.01.2022 The impact of core muscles training on the range of anterior pelvic tilt in subjects with increased stiffness of the hamstrings - Nov 2017 CONC: A significant ...decrease in the level of hamstring stiffness was recorded in the experimental group accompanied by an increase in anterior pelvic tilt. No significant changes were observed in the control group. There was a significant, negative, and moderate correlation between hamstring stiffness and anterior pelvic tilt with forward bending of the trunk. Conclusion highlights: The exercise training of the local and global core muscle coordination showed its effectiveness in reducing hamstring stiffness. The training showed its effectiveness in increasing the range of anterior pelvic tilt. Increased hamstring stiffness may limit the range of anterior pelvic tilt since a negative correlation was recorded between hamstring stiffness and the pelvic tilt with forward bending. NB: Subject number 30. Outcome measures were: 1. Passive knee extension in supine with 90 hip flexion (angle and tension). 2. Neutral standing (angle). 3. Finger tips to toes (forward flexion) in standing (angle). Questions: Have you used core training to influence hamstring extensibility? How do you improve hamstring extensibility... stretching... eccentrics...general strengthening? Reference: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29136538

10.01.2022 Australia has claimed quite an unwanted record as having the highest number of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries anywhere in the world. ACL injuries are serious knee injuries, leading to months of recovery. View our ACL injury fact sheet for more information http://bit.ly/1Ctx3fa

08.01.2022 I read a lot and attended a number of courses to get this information. This article describes a lot of good ideas very succinctly. Without labouring the physical aspects which lead to a decrease in joint forces, it clearly outlines an effective method for increasing your running comfort. Increasing cadence, even if you cant get to the 180 mentioned will still decrease frictional braking forces and should help relieve soreness. So get a cadence app on your phone and get started. God running. Jason

03.01.2022 How long does a hip replacement last? Finally some good new ins the world of Physiotherapy. Joint replacements last longer than we first thought. A new sy...stematic review in the Lancet has confirmed this. About three-quarters of hip replacements last 1520 years AND just over half of hip replacements last 25 years in patients with osteoarthritis. We are excited to announce that we will be reviewing this study for an upcoming issue.Find out more about our review service, and how you can stay up to date with the latest evidence in physiotherapy https://www.physio-network.com/memberships/ The Lancet study will be added below in the comment section.

01.01.2022 Compression clothing, does it really work? It always makes sense to ask these questions, we all know we look great in lycra, but does it really help ?
