24.01.2022 Finally! I’ve been collecting these blister packs for ages instead of chucking them into landfill, not really knowing what to do with them until now. Banish.c...om.au will recycle them! They accept a range of other waste streams as well. So all I need to do is post them and for my trouble they will give me a $15 voucher to spend on their online eco store! (Limit of one per customer per month) hopefully the postage won’t be too much but I’m just happy that they will be recycled. Here is the link to their website, https://banish.com.au/ then look for the the Banish Recycling Program hyperlink. Banish See more

20.01.2022 Herbal Medicine Updates Blog for 01/12/2021 -

08.01.2022 Meet our Practitioner of the month, Michael Thomsen, MSc, ND, DBM, Naturopath & Herbalist from Phytotherapy Desk Reference Originally from Denmark, Michael co...mpleted studies in Naturopathy and Herbal Medicine in in 1986. Currently a PhD student at the Sydney University Medical School, Michael is researching chemotherapy-induced mucositis, dysbiosis and the potential role of probiotics, He focuses on naturopathic cancer support and therapeutic hyperthermia. His company, Eusano Healthcare, has pioneered therapeutic hyperthermia in Australia. Michael is author of the popular Phytotherapy Desk Reference. The extensively revised and updated 5th Edition was published in 2020. How/why did you become a naturopath / herbalist? Travelling SE Asia in the early 80s, I met a naturopathic student and soon decided to study natural medicine. I like nature, science, medicine, education and helping people so it was a pretty good fit. At that time such study was unavailable in Denmark. I came out to Australia on a Student visa and stayed. How long have you been a NHAA member and what do you love about it? I have been with NHAA for most my 35 years as a herbalist. I had a few of years with other associations but soon saw the error of my ways! Herbal medicine was always my first love and I saw NHAA as the most serious and professional association and pro-registration. Any favourite herb of yours? Why? Impossible question! They all become our little friends, don’t they? I love echinacea and once tried to grow it commercially to no avail. Later I became obsessed with saffron and worked with Dr Mathias Schmidt on supplying saffron extract. I also assisted Mathias in his fight to bring back kava from the ban by the German authorities - a fight which is continuing: see our latest articles: https://bit.ly/307nFUJ If I have to pick one, let’s make it turmeric. I love curries and what an amazing spice. Used as a fluid extract and as highly bioavailable curcumin concentrates. Curcumin can also be injected. Curcumin consistently shows the most potent effect against cancer cells in chemosensitivity tests performed on circulating tumour cells from patient’s blood. #NHAA #Herbalism #Naturopathy #WesternHerbalism #PractionerOfTheMonth
