23.01.2022 Dear Piano Students and Families, As concerns about the Coronavirus intensify, it is necessary to implement precautions within our piano studio to ensure ongoing health and happiness. I intend to continue teaching as I know the value of music as a meditative tool, calming measure and mindfulness device, as well as the educational and emotional benefits it brings, and wish to support my students through this challenging time.... My friend has kindly shared her studios COVID-19 contingency plan and I intend to follow suit here, implementing Yellow Phase which requires: 1. Students to please wash their hands thoroughly before their lesson. 2. Piano keys and seat to be cleaned daily with disinfectant. 3. Any students with cold or flu-like symptoms MUST please cancel their lesson. Additionally, as I teach from home as well as in schools, I appreciate your understanding with my need to cancel classes if any of my children are unwell. I respect your health and will endeavour to make up or credit forward any missed lessons. Please dont hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries. 21.01.2022 My music diary during social isolation: I note progress and practise tips to send to students following our online lessons. Parents can transfer our notes into their childs own music diary, or just follow along to facilitate home practice. 07.01.2022 Establishing the basics today: Finger Numbers: 1 is your thumb... (I try to work with colours: right hand is pink and left hand is blue ).... With this little guy we are attempting the Brisbane-Lions Theme, Happy Birthday and Old Town Road (Lil Nas X & Billy Ray Cyrus) with ongoing success (practice, patience and persistence are keys). Next challenge: learning the alphabetic note-names (A to G, forwards and backwards) Then: written note-recognition, note-value and deeper music theory will follow... Music is certainly not an easy journey, but absolutely worth the investment in time, focus, patience, creativity, personal expression and development, and so so much more...

02.01.2022 Hey parents, teachers and carers! Youre asking me to put Every Little Cell up on YouTube so teachers can access it easily, so i thought, why not actually cre...ate videos FOR your children. So here it is. Find me on YouTube at Allison Davies! The video is for your children (of any age) to watch, and this caption is for you - so you know the therapeutic benefit of showing them this video! * Melody activates the limbic system which allows us to feel, experience and move our emotions through us. An essential process for anyone experience uncertainly, anxiety, grief or fear. * Melodic mantras have a greater impact on neuro plasticity than spoken or written affirmations as the music leads to dopamine release - which is essential in the motivation to repeat the mantra. This means singing this mantra will be the most effective way of us believing the words. * The repetition of this song creates a sense of predictability within the environment which the brain perceives as safety. A brain that can predict whats coming next feels more in control and a brain in control is not a Brain in survival mode. * Singing out loud is a fab controlled breathing exercise - every phrase we sing is a nice long out-breath! * Singing activates the parasympathetic nervous system which reduces the heart rate, reduces our respiratory rate and brings out of anxiety experiences. * Children still believe in their musicality (unlike us adults who think only musicians are musical) so expressing in this way brings them joy, and creative fulfilment * Music stimulates the pre frontal cortex which will help them to think more clearly, focus, make sense of and cognitively process their current state of events. Basically, children need music but they dont need to be at school to be making it. Music For One (music we make by ourselves, for ourselves) is just what the doctor ordered! Enjoy!
