Julius BLÜTHNER / 1881 Grand piano / ALIQUOT 4 string / FREE DELIVERY & Setup For Sale a very rare and unique Piano Built by JULIUS BLUTHNER himself... Hand crafted in 1881 from the highest grade materials and hardwoods. - using the ALIQUOT Piano Sting stystem - 4 strings per key, for the 4 ending octaves This Blüthner piano is from 1881-2 as evidenced by the soundboard decal and the serial number. The 4th String Aliquot was invented by Julius Blüthner in 1876 and first showed at the world's fair in Philadelphia where his innovation won first prize - which you see noted atop the second column. This piano also features the beloved hand carved garden motiv music desk design created by the founder Julius Blüthner himself. Bluthner piano company offer this fine desk to this day and it was also chosen for the 150th anniversary Julius Blüthner Edition in tribute. 20 years ago: This piano has been restored with new hammers, new strings, felts, and other extensive maintenance. - This Piano has been sitting with its wing opened for the last 15 years, getting played few times a year. - it is dusty on the inside as you can see, The bass is straight-strung and is in consequence very clear and incisive. The treble is warm and sparkly. There is a distinct difference in the tone of the different registers of the piano, which I like - this means that it is easy to distinguish the bass line from the treble line. In modern pianos the tone of the registers has become much more homogeneous - and the bass tends to have less clarity.This was the standard design for Bluthners in the 1880s. This design predates the well-known "mellow" Bluthners of the early 20th century, which had full cross-stringing.This piano has the Bluthner Patent action, I like this action very much.
