18.01.2022 The decision has been made to suspend operation of Picton Markets: Creative Traders, until February 2019. It is with utmost thanks and respect to all supporters of Picton Markets thus far, that we will reopen in February 2019 with a renewed approach to "a lovely day out". Wollondilly's flagship event, Picton Show, has made a revival at last: and for those seeking a weekend of pleasant, village activities or to help out with drought relief by supporting Australian Agriculture: please show support by attending Picton Show, at Victoria Park: Menangle St, Picton, on the 13th & 14th of October.

06.01.2022 It is with a heavy heart and profound sorrow, that today is the overdue day to announce that Picton Markets will be not be re-opening in 2019. Despite best intent, the facts and figures are clear that it remains financially unviable to run the market and serve it’s people at a level of quality, that both deserve. In my grandest vision: the market would have continued as a registered not-for-profit entity that perpetuates it’s presence and allows true community involvement in ...all aspects of the event: to be truly owned by the people of the community, and for its structure to be used to perpetuate event and management skills amongst people wishing to seek opportunity in the Wollondilly area. An underwhelming lack of community support meant that this was also unviable, and as an individual, I must concede that reality bites and the limitations of my personal ability to commit have been reached. In five years and 53 markets: I cannot list nor understate the sheer volume of highlights and happy times which have occurred in and around Wollondilly Shire Hall, flow on benefits and opportunities, friendships formed and community ties strengthened from the power of giving: giving my all available to run an event using the highest production skills and values to facilitate A Lovely Day Out for the people of my local community, on the land which I call home. But as times change, I too must change with the times, and that means letting go of my minimum 40 hour a month commitment to running Picton Markets on a voluntary basis. For those who will inevitably curious; my next move will be to remain available as an employee in Theatre and Event Production: while having some freedom to pursue leisurely tasks, creative pursuits, and quality time with family and friends. In no way is my door closed: given the appropriate level of support and resources, I would not hesitate to return to stewardship of Picton Markets or to contribute my skills and experience to other local events. I would like to thank all those who have participated in Picton Markets over its lifetime, and to all who have bought their good times, and bought good things, in Picton on the First Sunday. It truly has been an honour to present over five years: and is a personal disappointment to concede that the end is here. Let’s not be sorry for the end: but hold the many happy memories, and priceless experiences, dear into the future. I urge all patrons to continue to support all that is unique, boutique, and homegrown by supporting stallholders in their online sales, by continuing to support local markets.
