24.01.2022 OUR AMAZING SOLAR SYSTEM. A nice bit of wallpaper or screensaver for the phone.

24.01.2022 OBSERVATORIES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE No. 2 - The Mohon del Trigo The Mohon del Trigo Observatory located in the vicinity of Pico del Veleta (3394m) in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Spain is at a height of about 2600m and now sits silently, staring blindly at the stars. Built in 1902 to take advantage of the crisp, clear skies over the isolated Sierra Nevada mountains, the observatory at Mohon del Trigo was a testament to early modern astronomy. ... The building contained a 32 cm Cassegrain type KYOTO reflector telescope donated by Georgetown University. . Unfortunately, with the continual march of time and technological progress, the aging station was nearly obsolete by the middle of the 20th century. After a new observatory was built nearby around the 1970s, the observatory at Mohon del Trigo was stripped and left to the elements. Since its abandonment the observatory building has now been restored and continues to stand on top of its hill, fighting the fight against the elements. To this day it still cements it presence in the landscape and has to be one of the bucket list observatories to see before you die.

22.01.2022 CGX TWINS Painted and finished, these two beautiful Celestron CGX and CGX - L observatory piers are on their way to two very excited customers. They say you cant beat a quality steel pier.... More robust and solid than any other pier, Pegasus Piers are made of steel and have 3/4 length gussets which are fully welded, along with all other components. A high quality powdercoat finish completes the deal. The screws in the top are to secure the mount to the pier.

22.01.2022 TOWER OF POWER A terrible start to the week, nah ......m. Nothing beats an early morning commute to the city to check out one of the best morning Brisbane views of the river and cityscape while sorting out a Pegasus Pier for the QUT. ... This observatory will soon be receiving a pier for its new Meade LX850 mount and 16" OTA.

22.01.2022 OBSERVATORIES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE No. 3 Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory, Georgia Located at 1650 meters altitude in the former USSR controlled Georgian Mountains this astronomy jewel is just 32 kms from the Turkish border.... This Russian built observatory has 14 telescopes, the first of which was installed in the 1930s and sadly with only two still operational in 2015. The first telescope, a 40 cm Zeiss Refractor from 1937 is housed in the on site museum while the second telescope, a 70 cm 1957 Meniscus Telescope, is actively used for regular observing programs. A 50 inch (125 cm) Reflector are just one of the many other telescopes still residing at the site, unused and in need of repair. The Abastumani site was highly prized by the Soviets and considered one of the most important in Russia, second only to the one in the Crimea. It had up to 250 people working there in its peak and there are still 17 buildings in various states of repair still standing across the site today. Following the collapse of the USSR and Independence of Georgia from Russia in 1991, the observatory fell into disrepair and struggled in the chaos following with no power, no funding and no wages for workers. It has only since 2008 with more stable governments that things are starting to turn around for this unique astronomical destination and thousands of people now visit the observatory every year. Currently the observatory is under the control of the Ilia State University in Tbilisi, Georgia. Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory, Georgia, definitely an observatory to see before you die.

20.01.2022 ASTRO SYSTEME AUSTRIA DDM 85 Check out this mind blowing piece of gear. A top shelf ASA mount recently imported into Australia from Austria by Franco. If you have to ask how much you cant afford it.... This really is one of the top end mounts in the world and Pier 1 has been commissioned by Franco to make the observatory pier for this work of art. Cant wait to see the finished set up. Stay tuned for future updates as we bring this together.

19.01.2022 Ok ... Who Stole the Bolts ...... Date: September 6, 2003, Location: Lockheed Martin Space Systems factory in Sunnyvale, California. ... What is it? : (NOAA) N-Prime satellite As the team was turning the satellite into a horizontal position, they quickly found out that the twenty-four nuts and bolts that were supposed to be installed and holding it in place had apparently been removed by a technician. The satellite subseqently fell to the Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company factory floor. The spacecraft suffered significant damage but the company did repair it at their cost and it was later sent into space. I wonder if that technician is still working there?

04.01.2022 OBSERVATORIES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE No.1 - The Sphinx Kicking off a regular feature on our page, and what better way to start then with the famous Sphinx. The Sphinx Observatory is an astronomical observatory located above the Jungfraujoch in Switzerland.... It is named after the Sphinx, a remote rocky summit on which it is located. At 3,571 m (11,716 ft) above mean sea level, it is one of the highest observatories in the world. The night time views must be awe inspiring to say the least. This observatory was even the location of a Hollywood film. Can anyone guess? The Swiss just love to engineer the heck out of things and the mountain top has been tunneled to fit an elevator which ascends to the observatory from the Jungfraujoch railway station, the highest such train station in Europe.

03.01.2022 WHEN YOUR PIER ARRIVES A very happy Peter from Tasmania was so excited when his Pegasus Pier arrived that he did a fit up straight out of the box with his Celestron CGX mount. Like a Glove! Glad you like it Peter.... Astro Systems Austria (ASA) and Meade LX 850 piers are currently in production. Stay tuned.

02.01.2022 BIG FOOT LIVES I love to see when our piers come together with their mounts. Brisbane local, Grant Kerswell, recently acquired a killer observing setup from Sirius Optics at Underwood and needed the best pier for the job. ... This monster set up comprises a CGXL mount with a huge Edge 1100 HD OTA, all housed in a Sirius dome. Pier 1 was commissioned to make a custom pier for Grants observatory and we are proud to show the finished result. All we can say is WOW. Awesome job mate. Thanks for sharing Grant. Cant wait to see the images captured on this beauty. Logan Astronomy Society #SiriusOptics Sirius Optics
