25.01.2022 When you're feeling a bit old, tired and sluggish on a Monday morning - remember - age is just a number (especially true of this 73 year old man! )

25.01.2022 Studio Re-opening Monday 1st June! As of 16th May 2020 the Government has permitted all Tertiary Qualified Pilates Instructors (Liane - also a Practitioner of Structural Integration) and Physio Therapists (Larissa), who offer a clinical service to resume face to face instruction as long as all current State endorsed 'Covid 19 safe rules are adhered to. This decision follows the considered advice of the Covid 19 Sports and Health Advisory Committee. Assuming there are no c...hanges to Government requirements, we plan to re-open the studio from 7am Monday 1st June, and will be taking the recommended measures to continue to protect our clients and staff. All current Pilates Connection members should have received an email earlier today regarding the safety measures in the studio, and re-activating your current pack and scheduled class time. A full copy of the correspondence can be found here: https://mailchi.mp/a9f1cbb98345/covid19_openjune1 If you are a new client wishing to find out more about our in-person studio classes or virtual program, or existing clients wishing to discuss their return to the studio - please contact Liane on 0400 012 693 We look forward to welcoming you back to the studio very soon! 24.01.2022 Prosecco Pilates ? Wow, this is an interesting idea! If I gave you a full glass of prosecco (or pinot noir for the red lovers), at the beginning of your class and told you that your reward at the end was getting to drink it - would it motivate you to work extra hard in your balance poses to not spill a drop?? Who's in? 22.01.2022 What are the top 3 vitamins for boosting your immune system - and where do you find them? Vitamin C: is one of the biggest immune system boosters of all. In fact, a lack of vitamin C can even make you more prone to getting sick. Foods rich in vitamin C include oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, strawberries, bell peppers, spinach, kale and broccoli. Daily intake of vitamin C is essential for good health because your body doesnt produce or store it. The good news is that ...vitamin C is in so many foods that most people dont need to take a vitamin C supplement unless a doctor advises it. Vitamin B6: is vital to supporting biochemical reactions in the immune system. Vitamin B6-rich foods include chicken and cold water fish such as salmon and tuna. Vitamin B6 also is found in green vegetables and in chickpeas, which is the main ingredient in hummus. Vitamin E: is a powerful antioxidant that helps the body fight off infection. Foods rich in vitamin E include nuts, seeds and spinach. #vitamins #immunityboosters #immunity #naturalvitamins #pilatesconnection #inthecove #lanecove

14.01.2022 The best 6 minutes you'll spend today .... We posted this many years back - but it's still one of the best short videos around. If you've ever wondered where Pilates all started, this fabulous video takes you through the life of Joseph Pilates, who first came up with various exercises and techniques to help heal his own health, before eventually helping the sick in hospital, professional athletes, and dancers. 13.01.2022 Move away from the heater and turn to the SUN Theres a reason its called the sunshine vitamin. While there are a limited number of foods that can provide your body with vitamin D, the easiest source is from exposure of bare skin to sunlight. Sun often gets a bad wrap for the damage it can cause to skin, and the effects of aging, however, in small short doses, the benefits are huge. Here's how just 10-15 minutes of sunshine a few times a week can help your body:... Immunity & Bone Health: Sunshine supports your body's creation of vitamin D Better Sleep: it helps regulate your body's sleep + wake cycle and promotes optimal melatonin production Mental Boost - sunshine increases your brain's production of serotonin, which makes you feel more positive, and can reduce depression. Blood Health - Can help lower blood pressure, and is thought to help in the prevention of many other diseases. So thats why its VERY important to get outside and get moving and smile at the sun! Why not park your car a few extra blocks away and walk in the sunshine to your next Pilates class? #inthecove #sunshine #benefitsofsunshine #viatmind #depression #pilatesconnection #pilateslancecove #lanecove #mentalhealth

07.01.2022 Has working from home led to poorer posture? With many now working from home (by necessity or choice) due to Covid, we've seen a huge increase in clients with neck, shoulder and back pain. Unlike the ergonomic, OH & S approved workspaces and equipment in the office, we're soon realising that working from the kitchen bench, lounge room, or even from bed on a laptop, can play havoc with neck strain and lower back pain. Don't forget, Liane is a fully qualified Structural Integr...ation Practitioner, and can help relieve pain by releasing the fascia to get your body back to correct alignment. Appointments are conducted here in the studio's consulting room. 07.01.2022 Pilates Connection @ Your Place! While we are very excited to be re-opening the doors to our studio this week, during lock down, we have learnt a lot about technology and how it can help us feel connected and aid our fitness journey. In what has been a very interesting couple of months, our transition to continuing personalised Pilates programs via Zoom for many of you at home has been very rewarding. We thought we'd share a few of the interesting client stories and experie...nces over this period (please see Liane if you'd like to share yours) ..... PILATES CONNECTION @ HOME WITH JULIE Julie is a returned client who is based on the Upper West Side NYC. Her mother and sister are regular clients based in Sydney and Julie visits the studio to do Pilates with us whenever she is in town to see her family. All three ladies have been enjoying a Pilates hook up via Zoom and plan to keep it going for the foreseeable future, which is lovely. Julie has been walking or scootering through the streets of Manhattan to get to work each day as public transportation has been out of the question, causing her left quad to seize up under the strain of increased exercise. We have been focusing on activating her left glutes and doing lots of fascial releases on her left quad. Getting there ! It was particularly poignant to see Julie excuse herself for a minute or two at the start of each Pilates session as she popped out onto her balcony to join the nightly neighbourhood chorus of pot lid banging in support of the front-line health workers in NYC. Well done Julie + Co! #inthecove In the Cove #lanecove #zoompilates #remotepilates #familypilates #pilatesatyourplace #pilatesathome #pilatesconnection

03.01.2022 How does Pilates help with Brain training? At any age, especially as you get older, it's important to keep stimulating your brain to maintain good cognitive function. Learning new activities is a proven brain-training technique. Researchers have discovered that learning new activities increases the density of white matter in the brain (the fibers that let neurons communicate.) If the neurons are formed but they dont connect then eventually they die without any benefit to br...ain health so this white matter is extremely important. Learning a new activity is an important part of brain fitness. But most of us dont have an extra several hours a week to learn how to juggle or take on a new hobby. An exercise program however can be just the right way to multitask benefit our body and our mind at the same time. If you start to automatize your workout (like running on a treadmill while watching TV, doing reps at the gym without focusing on your form or flying through the same Yoga sequence every week) you cut the benefit of your workout in half (not even mentioning that you double the risk of an injury.) Learning a new movement or a new modification in a Pilates routine provides just the effect we are looking for by challenging the body and mind at the same time. So, remember - next time you come to Pilates, you're not only exercising your body, but ensuring that your brain remains fit as well! #inthecove #lanecove #brainfitness #brainhealth #exercisingyourbrain #brainexercises #pilatesforthebrain #pilatesconnection #pilateslanecove

03.01.2022 Keeping it Personal ! Given these uncertain times, we realise many in our community may not feel comfortable going to large group classes and busy gyms. However, it's important for both your body and brain to remain active and healthy. Luckily, we only cater for small classes (3-4 max) or private classes here at Pilates Connection. Not only does this limit your exposure to others, it means we can provide a truly tailored class, depending on how you're feeling on the day. If... you or someone you know has a compromised immune system, we can also arrange private zoom sessions to guide you through exercises with the correct technique from the comfort of your home. Contact the studio on 0400 012 693 or send us a message if you'd like to find out more! 02.01.2022 COVID Guidelines - UPDATE Dear Pilates Devotees, It's been wonderful welcoming many of you back to face to face classes in the studio over the last few weeks. While there is a feeling that things are starting to return back to "normal", the continued resurgence of COVID-19 in Victoria, and closer to home, the closure of Lane Cove West Public School yesterday with a positive case, are a stark reminder that we can't afford to be complacent. ... Given the virus can show little or no symptoms in some people, we kindly ask that if you have been, or are going to be in contact with family, friends or colleagues from Victoria, or even within the local Lane Cove West Public School Community, that you consider placing your current pack on hold for 2 weeks after any contact, or speak to us to arrange a virtual lesson via zoom. The ongoing safety or our members and staff is of upmost importance to us, and we trust that everyone will make the right decisions when coming to the studio. Below is a reminder of the COVID Safety Guidelines we have in place in the studio returning: https://us9.campaign-archive.com/
