03.01.2022 Today is Shark Awareness Day. Lets celebrate all shark species and respect them for the amazing creatures they are. Any Dive Professional will tell you that one of the most commonly asked question topics we get is about sharks. I am sure most of us give similar answer? With over 500 species of sharks found in the worlds oceans, some being as small as a human hand and the largest measuring approx 12m the shark image a majority of people have is that of a shark with an averag...e size of 4m and its maximum approx 6m with lots of sharp scary teeth. The Great White and many other shark species are impressive hunters and predators however the sad fact is these magnificent creatures are more threatened by people than we are by them. Sharks are an extremely vulnerable species, they grow slowly and produce few young and are susceptible to over exploitation. Millions of sharks are killed each year to meet the demand for shark fin soup, shark tooth medallions and to create a false sense of security on beaches. As in all ecosystems, top predators such as sharks in the marine ecosystem play an essential role in keeping the worlds seas healthy and productive. The future of sharks greatly depends on fishing and trade practices. Do your bit by supporting groups such as Project AWARE and by making sustainable seafood choices. https://www.projectaware.org/sharks

02.01.2022 Sarah from the West Pilbara Turtle Monitoring Program and us would to thank the 63 volunteers who gave up their Sunday morning on August 30 to join us for a clean up at Cleaverville. Cleaverville and other beaches along the Pilbara coast are important nesting habitats for many marine and land species including sea turtles so it is vitally important these areas are in pristine condition. In total we collected 41 bags of rubbish weighing in at 40kg. Cleaverville is a popular... day use and camping area and unfortunately a lot of the rubbish we collected was found in or near camp areas and around fire pits. Some of the worst items found were dirty nappies and baby wipes. Where ever you visit please take your rubbish home or dispose of it correctly. Thank you to the DBCA, West Pilbara Turtle Monitoring Program, PADI and Scubapro for providing awesome prizes and giveaways. Your support is much appreciated.

02.01.2022 Great dives sites, great weather and a great group of divers made for an awesome dive trip to the Samson Wrecks, Delambre and Legendre Islands.
