23.01.2022 Important Weed Update Councils Weeds officers have recently found infestation sites along the Newell Highway of Rope Pear (Cylindropuntia imbricata). ... Rope pear is an upright cactus with many segmented branches, segments of the cacti are covered in clusters of sharp spines. Rope pear is a perennial succulent that can grow from 1 to 3 metres in height. The rope-like segments of the plant can be easily broken off and spread to new sites via flood waters, wind and from animal or human movements. Rope pear can take over grazing country and natural areas by forming impenetrable clumps if left untreated reducing stock carrying capacity and stock and human movements. Council urges all property owners to contact council if you see this cactus or have this cactus growing on your property. Weeds staff can attend and provide identification and treatment methods for eradication. It is illegal to dump cacti or any biosecurity matter along roadsides, stock routes, in river or creek systems. To report a potential sighing of Rope pear please contact Narrabri Shire Council Weeds Officers on 02 6799 6866.

11.01.2022 Anzac Day will look different this year. No service at dawn, no two up, no beer. We cannot assemble for laying of wreaths. Therell be not a band, nor a march u...p the street. We cant be a choir and sing full of pride, or wave to our Diggers, as they go by. We are forbidden to meet, to show our respect. But we are still humble and we owe them a debt. We will not forget. We will not forsake. Our pride and respect, no virus can take. To save this great Nation, they fought and they died, all we have to do, is wait out the tide. We will honour them privately, safe in our homes. We will rise before dawn and lay wreaths of our own. The Last Post will play. We will stand for our Vets. We will remember them. Lest we forget.
