23.01.2022 Mens health week I've always been one of the boys. Not only as a mate, but like a sister as well.... Now, working as a sports remedial massage therapist, I've realised I'm a great sounding board for people to let go of emotional tension while I help release muscle tension. While working with predominantly male sports I've seen first hand the effects of mental health in men. The demands, the pressures and expectations to be your best day in day out for professional athletes can be mentally draining. Not only in the sporting game. But the game of life - including supporting families. Being a lover of sport, playing something every day, to sustain an injury that stoped me playing the sport I love. I now understand the mental struggles & mind games that has on you. 'The sports depression. The fear of returning to the game and enduring an injury again. Frustrations of weight gain as you can't train the same. All of this is a mental challenge. I've seen guys try to cover up injury and tough it out. Only to have them have to sit out of the game longer. Ignoring the pains and struggles of post concussion syndrome. The affects of concussion can be so damaging on the quality of life. Don't be afraid to seek help! Partake in self care . Stats - One in seven Australian men experiences depression or anxiety or both in any year. That's 13.3% of Australian men aged 16 to 85 have experienced an anxiety and/or affective disorder in the past 12 months. This is equivalent to at least 1.26 million Australian men today. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a neurodegenerative disease caused by repeated head injuries. Symptoms may include behavioral problems, mood problems, and problems with thinking. 18.01.2022 @pinpoint_sports_therapies motto stay in the game! The game u play or the game of life. **thats me in the back ground** I grew up by the sports court/field. Both my parents played sport. So it wasn't surprising when my brother and I played sport 7 days a week.... Dad was diagnosed with analysing spondylosis from the age of 24 - ankylosing spondylitis is a rheumatoid arthritis which causes inflammation of the bones in your spine. So I've grown up around chronic diseases - however I barely saw dad show pain, But you could visually see the struggle at times. Dad showed me a label doesn't define you. Nothing stopped him and it rarely does today. In 2002 I was diagnosed with my own challenge. After a car accident i was eventually diagnosed with Crohns disease a sister disease to AS. Thankfully I dont have the HLA-B27. The presence of HLA-B27 is associated with certain autoimmune and immune-mediated diseases, including: AS. This new way of life took me adventuring with my hospitality background around Australia. Starting with almost 2years in Yulara 10km from a big red rock - Uluru. Surrounded by the red dessert. What a game changer! This was basically the start of my solo travel in Oz and abroad. Returning from overseas I got back into sports and as mentioned started the exploration of massage. 2009 saw me take the leap into opening my business only to sustain an ACL injury four months later! Another challenge. Without both of these challenges (Crohns and ACL) I wouldn't be where I am today!! With a passion to educate people that life doesn't need to be associated with pain. Through chronic illness or injury. Changes are necessary, but eliminating your favourite activities potentially doesnt need to be. And folks this is why I love what I do. 03.01.2022 This time (exactly) 6weeks ago I was entering Victoria on my way to help my big little bro with his 3 hectic yet gorgeous kids. While spending some much overdue time with the family. Due the the covid19 I wasn't able to work. So I packed the car with a few essentials and headed off. Not knowing how long til I'd be crossing back. I left Traralgon 18years ago & the longest I've been home in that time is a max of 2weeks! Scarborough, Western Australia GROUNDING also known as EARTHING, is a therapeutic technique that involves doing activities that ground you to the earth. The earth has a mild negative charge. As you walk around day to day, you build up a positive charge in your cells. Back when we were all walking around barefoot and sleeping on the ground, this wasnt an issue as direct contact with the earth cancelled out the positive charge and left us neutral. But now we wear rubber soled shoes and sleep indoors and are insulated from the earth so our bodies dont return to neutral. We just keep building up a positive charge which saps our energy which then causes inflammation and disease.
