25.01.2022 Massive Weekend in Townsville on the weekend, with the first ever Battle of the Tropics between the North Region & the Far North Region. Pioneer Tennis had 14 players of the 32 member North team. Alex Couldery, Dillon Sweeney, Oscar Savige, Ned Gething, Lilly Shepherd, Casey Bounghi, Hannah Burrows, Raice Gibbons, Zoe, Skye & Kane Nicolson. Matthew & Lachlan Davies & Tommy Louw all represented both the club and North with PRIDE. The North narrowly went down in the 11s, 15's & 17's but won the 13's age group.

This week Ken installed a curtain which will separate our RED BALL Courts and our touchtennis courts in the McDonald's RED ARENA Amazing how much difference this will make to the use of the place now balls are not under everyone's feet. 13.01.2022 See guys, doesnt matter if you just starting out or you a multi grand slam champion. The drills to get there are often the same. Done this one plenty of times at Pioneer Tennis over the years. Perhaps with not quite the same gusto as Rafa though, but the same drill all the same.

13.01.2022 CLUB PRIDE is alive and well !!!!!! Ned, Lilly and Ash played at Gladstone JDS last weekend. All 3 came home with some silverware. Pioneer Tennis kids can sure rack up the kilometres. Mehtab is up at Kalynda Chase JDS this weekend and next weekend the team is off to do battle at the Home Hill JDS.

13.01.2022 Friday CBA Comp teams were scrapped with this crazy thing call COVID turning up to the party. However for the past term and a bit we have been running a turn up and play format with points awarded for positions each week. Achieve 30pts and players get a TIMEZONE CARD. Meet today's recipients. Next week is the final night for the year. Who will get across the line and get their TIMEZONE Card??? Sausage Sizzle at 6:30pm next week too.

13.01.2022 BIG ANNOUNCEMENT FOR 2021. For the past 4 years, PIONEER TENNIS has been leading the way in regional junior development in both the North and in Regional QLD. In that time we have continuously grown our weekly program of squads to now cater for over 60 juniors. Pioneer Tennis's Next Gen Squads train up to 4 hours a week in a squad, have a 30 minute P/T session and integrated private lessons incorporated into their program. Also in addition to this the juniors undertake a ...tournament program and receive assistance through travel and coach supervision whilst competing in away tournaments. All this for a fraction of a price in other large cities. In 2021, Pioneer is again leading the way by creating a performance partnership with Malpas Tennis based at the Churchie School in Brisbane. Malpas Tennis has been helping regional juniors for a long time in that of their Head Coach Ian Malpas being a North QLD junior himself once upon a time himself and understanding the challenges and the landscape our juniors have to endure in being a competitive tennis player. Juniors from Home Hill, Townsville and Mackay have all attended the Chruchie School over the years and trained under the Ian's watchful eye. The 2021 partnership will provide Pioneer Tennis Inc juniors a base to train from while in Brisbane tournaments, have a inter coach/club relationship in sharing resources/training/environments and may also lead to a scholarship program with affiliated schools of Malpas Tennis. The Pioneer Tennis Inc Club and coaches are very excited and confident that the pathways created can only lead to not just more opportunities for Pioneer Tennis juniors, but looks to strengthen regional tennis for everyone to thrive. BRING ON 2021.

We have a regular group of 6-8 people who have a Monday afternoon social hit. They do like to have a bit of a yarn too. And the best part it is a whopping big $2 a go. ... Just rock up on the day format.

03.01.2022 To all at Pioneer Tennis and the North Tennis Community. This may explain a bit more about the tennis animal who is Steve Merker. This is my home club of Warra Tennis Club. The two ant bed courts and clubhouse have served the town of Warra since 1905. It has seen its fair share of droughts, floods and hard times and til recently was basically abandoned. However the spirit of tennis can not be kept down and a group of Warrarites have all pitched in to clean the ol' lady up... and have recently upgraded the lights and switchboard and a 1st put air con in the 100+ old club. For without this club and many more on the Western Downs, I would of not gotten the bug and be where I am today. Thanks for the memories, and may you all serve aces for years to come. Steve.

02.01.2022 WELL DONE !!!!! to these MIGHTY MACKAY CHAMPS. Matt Davies & Casey Bounghi who were awarded NQ JDS Circuit's Male & Female Player of 2020. They achieved the great feat, and $400 ea to go towards their tennis in an ongoing points scoring system conducted throughout the 2020 circuit.

02.01.2022 Done & Dusted!! our last week of 2020 happened at Pioneer Tennis Inc in terms of all things Squads, Coaching and Comps. While it has been a somewhat challenging year, Pioneer's Squads have all batted well above their average in supporting their development. 56 juniors were involved in our Squad Program in 2020. It has been one hell of a ride. ... Next year, we will greet all our members back with new LED Lights and a Breeze Way/Alfresco area, and a new security system & improved functionality with a shed and wheelchair access points. We will welcome a new coach to our squads who has coached extensively in Brisbane with high performance players & coach Milan will have completed his Coach Qualifications ready to get into it all again. The rest of the team of Alan, Jane, Lefty, Emily & Paula will also be supported with our exciting partnership with Malpas Tennis announced earlier this month. In the morning 17 x Pioneer Tennis juniors will head to Rocky to play in the 1st ever QLD Country Teams Cup and tussle to get their name on the John Peach Memorial Cup. Much to be done before next year. But from the set backs in 2020, I can assure you the team at Pioneer Tennis are working hard to ensure we gain some yards so to speak. Merry Xmas to your family.
