16.01.2022 What food source is yellow, tasty and is grown on farms? CORN To further extend on our farm learning, the Pips (0-2 yrs) engaged in messy paint play as they learnt about corn and where it comes from The children were offered real corn and lots of colourful paint colours as they engaged their fine motor skills in the process. Together as a group we discussed the colour, the bumpy texture and where it is grown. The children had a ball connecting with nature and being messy with paint Well done Pips!

14.01.2022 This week in our Sprouts (1.5 - 2.5 years) class, we focused on maintainng the Sprouts hygiene and self-help skills We started with washing our hands thoroughly and more regularly especially now with Coronavirus around This consisted of the children learning how to thoroughly wash their hands from front to back, in between fingers and washing their thumbs and nails! The next day the children learnt about mouth hygiene and the importance in brushing twice a day. We then had a discussion about the colour of all our Sprouts tooth brushes at home! To further emphasise the importance of oral hygiene, we then did an activity using pom pom balls in a sandwich bag acting as a dirty mouth and the children used a tooth brush to clean the teeth. This helped our Sprouts visualise what goes on inside their mouths! Well done Sprouts

12.01.2022 Well, its not every day that you see all your favourite book characters come to life! Last week was national book week and all our friends dressed up as their favourite book characters on Friday! A few of the characters we saw today was Spiderman, Elsa and Anna , Alice in wonderland , Thelma the unicorn , Batman , The cat in the hat with thing one and thing two, Ms Frizzle from the magic school bus and a wonderful wizard! All of the children loved guessing each others costumes, and mingling with the other rooms outside! Even the educators got in on the fun!!

11.01.2022 Following on from the children’s interest in the Buds room (2-3 years) in building and construction, they explored the ideas of deconstruction. They did this by using a variety of tools to break through big blocks of ice that had some treasures trapped inside them to fit along with the theme, some bolts, mobilio and the spools to revisit and cross their experience they did with shaving foam.

11.01.2022 Over the last few weeks, our Pips children (0 - 2 years) have been investigating the farming lifestyle We have been exploring farm animals, how they live and all the fruits and vegetables that can be grown on a farm To extend on the topic of vegetables, we created a small pond with ducks and added slices of real cucumber to enhance the Pips learning! We took a closer look at the cucumber before heading outside to explore the duck pond The children concentrated as they observed the cucumber and responded with lots of smiles and excitement Once we ventured outdoors, the Pips were so excited to see the ducks float on the water and even decided to taste the cucumber. The results were amazing!

These hands on activities provide children with the opportunity to explore different textures such as smooth, rough, soft and hard. Messy play taps into a child’s natural curiosity and there is no ‘right’ way for messy play, it can help to build confidence and self esteem.

08.01.2022 Playing with balloons today was great for investigating and exploring early science and maths concepts The children enjoyed counting how many blows it takes to fill the balloon or how many hits to keep it in the air! Most of all, everyone practised their balloon blowing skills and tried to rocket-ship-fly the balloon high into the the air It boosted resilience; which is the ability to recover from setbacks and keep going even when things go wrong. It also built persistence as they learned to keep inflating the balloon even though it was difficult Well done, Poppies! xox

08.01.2022 Our Pips (0-2 yrs) have been learning about shapes and colours To compliment this learning, the children were offered a tray that included different shapes such as squares, circles, triangles and rectangles, featuring the colours green, purple, blue and orange. 07.01.2022 Who loves baby chickens? The Pips (0-2 years) do! As an extension from our farm yard learning, we got a special visit from the baby chickens that were hatched in the Poppies (4-5 years) room We are so lucky to have these baby chickens to learn about! At first, the Pips were a little hesitant, but as they investigated and learned more, they became more confident in touching the chickens. The soft fluffy feathers made the children laugh and smile and even the educators got up close and personal to further enhance the experience for the children

07.01.2022 Last week the Poppies (4-5 years) dove deep into this years Science Week! The 2020 theme was Deep Blue: Innovations for the Future of Our Oceans! We have been focusing on understanding recycling our waste and keeping our oceans clean! The Poppies have recycled daily objects and crafted them into sea creatures We have designed and constructed our own ocean, and were able to identify what animals call the ocean their home, and we discovered the damage that littering does to the ocean habitat!

06.01.2022 This week in our Sprouts room (15 m - 2.5 yrs), the children became socially responsible and learnt how to interact with the chicks that the preschool were looking after!! The Sprouts showed their gentle hands and learnt how to hold and pat the tiny chicks The children watched them walk around in a tray at first, and then once they gained some confidence our Sprouts got a chance to hold them! Well done Sprouts!

This week our Blossoms children (3-4 yrs) engaged in the night sky sensory activity made of dyed rice and some little star pasta Its so lovely to see the children stir, rub and mix using their little hands to feel the different texture of rice and the little stars from this activity

05.01.2022 Stop! Its Hammer time! Our buds (2-3 years) have been showing a lot of interest in building and constructing, so we decided to get down to basics and introduce a hammer to the children! We started off one at a time, using golf tees as nails and a pumpkin as wood! The buds absolutely loved it! We extended this interest by getting a group of children together and use a styro-foam box to hammer into! Hand-eye co-ordination, fine and gross motor, problem solving, role-playing and creative thinking are just a handful of skills that are developed by this activity!

03.01.2022 We love baking! Last week our Blossoms children (3 - 4 yrs) engaged in a baking activity using many ingredients. The children enjoyed mixing, stirring and pouring the ingredients into a big bowl using a spoon as well as helping to place the batter into the cupcake trays Baking with kids can be lots of fun and rather messy! But among all the mess, there are so many benefits that kids gain from the whole baking experience While watching them pouring the ingredients into bowls and spooning butter into a small cup, their eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills were seen to have improved! Well done Blossoms!

02.01.2022 Our awesome Police friends surprised the children with a visit! The officers took a walk through the centre greeting & hi-fiving all the children before stopping in the Buds, Blossoms & Poppies rooms for a chat The children were fascinated by the boys in blue and there were so many questions for them! The children talked about road safety, the importance of seatbelts in the car & the role Police play the community. It was important to get the children to understand that ...the Police are here to help us in any situation and that they are good guys! The police cars were also explored as the children climbed in and investigated what they looked like from the inside. The officers gave us a final treat before heading off as they turned their sirens & lights on as they waved goodbye! These connections are important to build between the children and their community. We are very proud of the strong connection we have with our wonderful police officers & the fact that the children are able to benefit from this!
