25.01.2022 Christmas holiday trading hours Pitch Perfect Strings will be closed from 1pm Sat 23rd Dec and re-opening 9am Wed 3rd Jan.... Have a happy Christmas and fantastic new year

24.01.2022 In the process of setting up the new violin room.

23.01.2022 Started putting up the new signs this weekend.

22.01.2022 Dear customers, please note I have changed my business hours to by appointment only. I am happy for short notice appointments but please contact me first to check I will be available. I figure this will allow me to properly serve my customers and give me the uninterrupted time required to spend with each one especially when choosing an instrument. Also I can properly manage my workshop demands to ensure each instrument gets the best attention possible.

21.01.2022 My wall of instruments is steadily growing.

19.01.2022 Pitch Perfect Strings is pleased to have a new Master series violin for sale. It is a Hagen Weise #150 Master series violin and boasts a powerful projected tone. It is strung with Evah Pirazzi Gold strings for more depth in colour. The workmanship of the violin and the skilful varnishing is a reflection of Hagen Weises's many years of experience as a luthier. The violin is modelled after Josef Guarneri Filius Andrea (The father of Guarneri Del Gesu). Inspection is welcome.

18.01.2022 I really enjoy when I get to hear one of the lovely violins I have sold being played and loved so much. This is a video of a recent performance on the Sunshine Coast by Trio Canenas Vibrantes. Jon is playing a gorgeous Hagen Weise violin which he purchased from me. It is modelled after a Guarneri del Gesu. I'm sure you will all recognise these pieces. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3vQI3FQHxQ

03.01.2022 With the first winter dry cool westerly winds due to arrive on the Sunshine Coast this weekend I thought I'd share my infomation sheet on Winter and the effects on a violin The Violin family of instruments is very susceptible to changes in humidity. In S.E. Queensland we are subject to 2 distinct seasons where humidity is concerned.... 60% to 80% humidity and often greater, for the months of November to April 50% and lower between May and October. A Violin constantly shrinks and expands with changed in humidity. It is only stable in a humidity level of between 50% to 60%. The most notable problems that arise from change in humidity are as follows. PEGS and TUNING The ebony pegs are held in place due to their tapered shape and friction. As the humidity lowers approaching winter, the pegs begin to dry out and shrink and often unwind. It is common to open your case in the morning to find some of the strings have loosened. The pegs actually need to be pushed deeper into the pegbox in winter compared to summer. Conversely if left in the ‘winter position’ they can seize as they swell approaching summer. Peg compound (often referred to as peg soap) and properly shaped pegs will help reduce this problem. STRING HEIGHT ABOVE FINGERBOARD (playing action) The violin actually shrinks during the cold and dry months and the strings may be visibly closer to the fingerboard. i.e. the action is lowered. This can cause string buzzing if the strings were already quite low. This is a very common issue with Cellos and Double Basses due to their size. CRACKS and SEAMS The glue used in construction of a violin is an organic animal based glue (Hide glue), which bonds at a humidity level of 50% to 60%. If the humidity rises for a prolonged period, the glue softens. If the humidity is less than 50% for a prolonged period, the glue dries and releases its bond. Seams may open and it is common in older instruments for the neck or fingerboard to come off. HOW TO MINIMISE THESE PROBLEMS A correctly set-up and serviced instrument will be less susceptible to the above problems. Keep your instrument in its case when not being played. A humidifier can be placed in the case to aid in raising the humidity, these are inexpensive at $14.50 and are highly recommended for older instruments. For any further advice please do not hesitate to contact Dean
