10.01.2022 Why are we "girls only"? International research has shown that boys and girls learn very differently and that girls will often take a backseat in co-ed situations. Girl Guides are encouraged by Leaders and peers to explore their personal boundaries in a safe and secure atmosphere. By this, Girl Guides learn that girls can do ANYTHING. Guide Leaders consistently report a special feeling about Guide meetings. Its an energy the girls generate because they want to be there and: ... have a direct say in what they do learn to plan, action, and evaluate their activities discover what kind of person they are enjoy physical challenges with confidence In a world that does not yet offer equality to women, Girl Guides have a place to appreciate their own worth, explore the possibilities, play hard and make mistakes without fear of judgement.

08.01.2022 The Life of a Leader (adapted from We Are Only Leaders) Welcome, we would love to introduce ourselves. We are Guide Leaders. We are not experts. Were not perfect. All of us feel called to work with the young women of the future. We are Leaders because we believe in what Girl Guides has to offer. We dont necessarily have spare time for our role, some of us work all day and then come to Guides. Many of us care for someone a child, a parent, or someone who needs us and ...we leave our loved ones to lead our Unit. We have busy schedules and try to juggle out lives to make Guiding fit. We are required to train thoroughly and attend a variety of meetings throughout the year so that we can meet our greatest challenge assisting the Unit to create a girl-led program that meets their individual interests and fosters both teamwork and leadership at the same time. We complete risk assessments, budgets, and forms, and have oodles of paperwork just in case. At home, our dining tables are often covered with bits of rope, camp menus, craft supplies, and badges for each and every girl in the Unit. Some nights after a challenging meeting we get the phone, seeking advice and support from other leaders. Other nights we email a volunteer manager explaining the latest adventurous idea the girls have dreamed up, and together we find a way to make it happen safely. We do all of these things because the girls fill us with pride at their determination and accomplishments, and their willingness to do their best. Their smiles light up a room; and a simple thank you makes it all worth it. When they master a skill they thought was impossible, we celebrate with them. When they make it through a day out on the water, or their very first night camping, or when they receive an award, we are thrilled. Every success, big or small, is a win for both the Leader and your daughter. We are proud of the things they can do now and will do in the future. Please be patient with us as we learn together with our Unit, and know that we are doing our best. Whether you see us struggling, or if you love what we do, we could always use your help. Encouragement or an offer of assistance is a huge morale boost. We rejoice at the generosity within the Guiding community and outside of it. We volunteer our time, our resources, and our talents to help girls grow through Guiding. As Leaders we are volunteers, mentors and role models who have taken the time today to give these girls your girls the most precious gifts we have, our time, our talents and our care. See more
