12.01.2022 This is a very important message for dog owners to remember and share: ALWAYS ask permission before 1. approaching a dog you don't know OR 2. allowing your dog ...to approach a dog you don't know. We hear stories from pet owners all the time - They're walking their nervous dog down the street with their dog on lead, and somebody else's dog bounds up out of nowhere and intimidates him or her. This can be terrifying and damaging to the nervous dog - sometimes even ending in a fight! Just because YOUR dog is friendly and confident, does not mean every other dog in the street is receptive to a greeting or play. Please be mindful of this when walking your dog - and remember it is the law to keep your dog on the lead unless in a specified no-lead dog park! 08.01.2022 WARNING!!! DO NOT GIVE THESE SO-CALLED "TREATS" TO YOUR DOGS!!! THEY CAN POTENTIALLY KILL THEM!! Just a little warning regarding the Xmas treats many stor...es are now starting to stock for dogs at Xmas. Many of these so called treats end up with the dog "enjoying" some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas. The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China. The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes. On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde. If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog. Leave them in the shop where they belong or if some well meaning person buys them for your dog put them safely away for later, then dispatch in the bin! Please be safe with your dogs! 01.01.2022 JD HAS A MEET AND GREET NEXT WEEK!! My name is JD!! Do you remember me from last month? I was left in the pound at 12 years of age - abandoned by the family ...I thought loved me but Rescue Hub stepped in to save me. They found me a loving foster home with a beautiful mum who has being caring for me since I left the pound but I can only stay here until Christmas time so I am on the lookout for a new home. I am an older gentleman (I'll be 13 next February) who is looking for a quiet and loving home to live out my days. I only need a short walk each day and I am happy to lay by your feet, and keep you company. I would prefer a home where there is somebody home for some of the day. I have had some lumps and bumps removed but the vet has given me the "all clear" so now I just need to find my forever home to live out my twilight years. A long term foster home is ok too and Rescue Hub will look after me financially if you can give me the love and care I need. Overall for my age, I am in good health and all my vital organs are in good working order! I am partly deaf but will follow commands. I will need to be the only pet, and can walk past other dogs fairly well, but I definitely will need a new home with no other pets.
