16.01.2022 Have you used milk spray to control powdery mildew? My own experiments have worked to a point but found it also acted as a mild fertiliser. This article explains but share your experiences....

14.01.2022 Shared from `Permaculture Perth' FB Group Page: A post from a verge garden fighting for its existence in Joodalup... Please drop an email to the council to show... your support (email Cr Brian Corr [email protected] and Cr John Chester [email protected])....Alternatively.... all post on the City of Joondalup Council FB page to show your support for this garden, cheers.. "Hey Guys, a neighbour of mine has been asked by the council to remove her verge community garden (see photos). If you're in the area or passing through, please consider swinging by to add your name to the petition. Marie is a widow in her 70s who has maintained a verge garden for more than twenty years. She's opened her front and backyard gardens to the public many times as part of the Open Gardens Australia initiative, and everyone around here knows her for her homemade jams and good nature. Last week she received a phone call from a councilperson informing her that she must remove her verge garden. Marie inquired as to who might've complained, and was told a complaint hadn't been made. She has subsequently received a letter stating that she will be fined $200 if she does not remove the plants and stones by the 29th of this month. Marie is in good spirits and feels there will be enough community support to overcome this, but in order for community support to be recognised in council, she has to have at least 100 signatures for her petition. So if you want to see community gardens in the shire of Joondalup, or in any part of Perth, this is an opportunity to get involved. My daughters and I pass Marie's garden every day on the way to and from school. It's an immaculately maintained blend of ornamentals and edibles. At the moment we're stopping to see a giant orb spider that's made its home amongst the large cylindropuntia cactus (at the far right of the first photo). My neighbours send their daughters to gather herbs from the community garden. Personally I see this petition as an opportunity to set a precedent. It has always been in my long term plan to have a community garden on my verge. It also seems to me that the council's actions have arisen only out of obligation, and that since Marie's garden builds community, and councils are for the community, it shouldn't be too difficult for council members to see the sense in allowing Marie's garden to continue. Nevertheless the best course of action at this point is to gather signatures to show, in a formal manner, that people want this action reconsidered. I hope you'll go out of your way, and make it to Marie's place - 10 Renegade way Kingsley. Look for the sign that says "Community Garden". Love Always"
