01.01.2022 Meltdowns and Anxiety are a daily battle for many of may families who have a child with Autism. Here are some top tips for calming your child : Remember to practice a relaxation response with your child when they are already calm so they have the skills ready to use them when needed. To do this: Tell them it is time for relaxation, sit in a relaxing place (hammock/bean bag). Using toys like bubbles, windmill, harmonica, whistles or candles show them how to practice relaxing... and gaining control through taking big breaths. The toys are enjoyable and they help to redirect the child's attention while also being functionally incompatible with any yelling/ crying that me be occurring. See more
