11.01.2022 PLF was proud to sponsor AgForce CQ's Industry Update on 14 April at Tim Gersbach's property "Kurrajong" outside Capella. The guest speaker was the Hon David Littleproud MP, Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management. He covered a broad range of subjects and responded to questions openly and frankly. There were several other speakers, including yours truly, presenting updates on such topics as Great Barrier Reef regulations, live cattle exports, land revaluation and rate upgrades and the recently established Youth Council.

07.01.2022 We are constantly being reminded as to the benefits from having sensor-based systems on farms. Just recently we installed a water monitoring system on a property and immediately identified that there was a significant amount of water loss due to fractured pipes. In fact, in the first 7 days of installing our system, until the pipes were repaired, we identified over 150,000 litres of valuable water was lost. Now there is no loss and the whole system can be monitored remotely 24/7, with no need for physical inspection unless advised by the system.

05.01.2022 PLF has been successful in gaining a grant from Fitzroy Basin Association to undertake a project that will have significant benefits to cotton growers and irrigators. Weve been able to bring together a team consisting of CQ Cotton Growers and Irrigators, Fitzroy Irrigation Network, CHDC, CHRRUP, as well as including a number of school students through the CQ VET Network. Over the next 12 months well be trialling new sensor technology that will collect on-farm weather data, soil profiles and water utilisation, along with crop selection, field preparation, planting, spraying, irrigating, harvesting and transport to investigate ways to improve productivity and increase profitability.
