25.01.2022 Does anyone else feel overwhelemed figuring out what images to add to your website or social media? I like to use @unsplash , @pexels & @freepik for free photo's - freepik is great for illustrations which I love to use on websites that I build. I also like to purchase images from @creativemarket , these are paid images by designers who create all kinds of awesome images you can use anywhere. I just picked up this floral abstract pack verdant which inclu...des this gorgeous floral arrangement and over 600 elements and pictures for use on any project. Where do you get your images from? @creativemarket #websiteimages #digitalillustration #artistsofinstagram #illustrations #digitalimage #bloggersofinstagram #creativepost #creativempire #virtualassistant #creativewarrior #creativebusiness #websitelaunch #websitecomingsoon #websitebuilder #websitetips #websitecreation #websiteinspiration #websitebuilding #websitephotography #websitecontent #websitemaker #smallbusiness #smallbusinessowner #virtualassistanttips #virtualassistanttraining

25.01.2022 When creating your website, you need to ask yourself two questions

25.01.2022 30% of the world's websites are created on the Wordpress platform. If you are thinking of creating your own website, or if you are a virtual assistant, learning how to use Wordpress software is a great idea. You can use this knowledge to earn and save yourself lots of $$$. You don't have to build an entire website yourself, but learning how to make simple changes like changes to prices, pictures and text is very simple in Wordpress. And if you are a virtual assistant, as I m...entioned 30% of the world's websites are using Wordpress. If you know how to make simple changes, this is a valuable service to anyone with a Wordpress site that you can add to your services. All with NO CODING knowledge required. So how do you get skilled at Wordpress? https://www.plinkit.com.au/how-to-get-better-at-wordpress/

24.01.2022 Todays choice of soundtrack while I work is Beyoncé- Black is King. Wow how can somebody be so cool. Beyoncé rocks. #creativeinspiration Luckily I purchased Disney Plus - we were due to go to Disneyland end of this year - booked and paid - so the plan was to watch all the Disney movies before we left - but I’ll be travelling in my mind now. ... https://www.businessinsider.com.au/black-is-king-beyonce-di

21.01.2022 Sourcing images is an important but time-consuming task when creating a website. There are a couple of ways to get images for your website. You can take your own, (you might be surprised at how well they turn out, see @iphone_photography_school for tips) you can use free stock photography websites like @pikwizard @pexels & @unsplash , pay for a subscription to @the_ivorymix @envato or even @adobestock or you if your budget allows you can use a private phot...ographer (check out your local Facebook community groups as many photographers offer introductory prices when they first start out) Just remember to have your website plan completed and know exactly how many and what type of images you need before you start shooting otherwise you are going to waste LOTS of time!! If you can take a few short video's as well. All the images can be repurposed to social media as well. And remember you can change ANYTHING on your site at ANY TIME! Don' be scared just DO IT!!! @Alexchandrews @pexels See more

19.01.2022 Page builders are plugins that help you design beautifully formatted webpages without using code. There are a few out there, Elementor is one of the best and it has a free version. Other page builders include Thrive, Divi, WP Bakery & Beaver Builder. They will save you lots of time and effort when designing a page - think easily changing formatting, position, saving colour palettes, previewing your designs while you work on them. ... https://elementor.com

18.01.2022 Latest website launch! I’ve been working with some really cool businesses lately. The latest is Adam Medaglia who is the founder of The Ollin System & author of a soon to be released book. He works with men to help them reclaim a purpose and find a sense of community. Improving our mental fitness and increasing the support systems for all those around us is a great service - I look forward to watching what great things Adam achieves in the community.... You can find a link to The Ollin System website in my bio.

17.01.2022 If you want to learn how to build your own website but don't know where to start the first step is to decide on what way you are going to build it. The language of the web is HTML. You can learn to program using code, but for most of us, we want to build a website to display our services or sell things. Not to be a computer programmer. So, how do you build a site without code? There are lots of pretty smart techy people who have created software programs, ...kind of like Microsoft Word where you just type your content into a page and it converts it to HTML and displays your content. These software programs are called CMS or content managed systems. There are many to choose from, some include; * Wix * Squarespace * Wordpress * Shopify And there are many more options. So do you choose which platform is right for you? Stay tuned for my next post. See more

17.01.2022 Need some inspiration for your website colours? There are a number of cool tools you can use to help select them. Check out coolors.co - it is a colour palette generator that displays random colours. You can enter in one or more of your own colours, lock in any that you want to keep, and then it keeps randomly generating different colours. A great way to see how the colours look together. Another AWESOME tool is by Google, it's called material.io/tools/col...or. It is a little more complex, but it will show you how all your colours work together in a mock-up mobile site. Both these sites are free & great for colour inspiration. @plinkit_au See more

17.01.2022 Did you know that plugins can slow your website down? If you have too many plugins activated it can overwork your website causing it to take longer to load. Make sure you delete any plugins you are not using, and only use plugins where necessary. If you want to see how fast / slow your website is, you can try these two tools https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ https://gtmetrix.com... The aim is to have a website that loads in under 3 seconds. If you use a cheap web hosting company it can slow your site down by 1-2 seconds, sometimes more.

16.01.2022 Good Evening Lovely Ladies & Gents, I hope you have had a good start to the week? I feel like I've finally started to find my rhythm again with the kids back at school. Last week was a giant catch up week and this week is feeling like back to somewhat normal. I have a huge to do list this week. I've just submitted a website for final approval , (looking forward to sharing this one when it launches! Super colourful & lot's of fun) I'm recording some v...ideo for Wordpress Slices Courses that will be out soon & finishing off editing my workbook. Plus I have seriously neglected blog posts this last few months, so will have a bunch coming out soon. Focussed on teaching absolute beginners in clear simple steps how to build a website. My focus isn't teaching to smash out a website in 5 days, my technique is slow and steady. Grab a cup of tea , sit down and enjoy the process. Not rushing or feeling like it has to be perfect in a week. Anyhow, I woud love to hear what you are working on this week. Is anyone launching a website soon? Would love to see it if you care to share :) ---Melinda @leahkelleyphotography @pexels See more

13.01.2022 @freepik is a great site to source cool free illustrations. I love incorporating pretty little pictures into my sites. I'm utilising these super cool birds on my latest web build. The client has a tropical feel for their website & the seagull will be popping up on a few pages. I've always felt so cranky when I read "you can't do that on a website" or "don't use x colour on a website". Why not?? We can do whatever we want on our websites! And why do we feel the need ...to have a website that looks the same as everyone else? I LOVE LOVE LOVE how a website can be such a creative outlet. NO RULES APPLY! I see a website as having two main goals 1. It is a business tool. What do you want it to do for you? It is so much more than an online brochure! 2. Express your brand. It needs to translate your personality. It can't do that if you play it safe or copy other peoples vibe. What kind of theme or vibe do you have on your website? What is your favourite style? See more

12.01.2022 How do you decide which website platform is right for you? Have a think about your long term business goals. If your main goal is to sell physical products, like skincare or art, for example, your business will come under the E-Commerce umbrella and some platforms like, Shopify and Bigcommerce, are designed for online stores. They have lots of options in their software, like delivery and shipping, links to eBay etc that are for online stores and you won’t have to think too h...ard about setting it up. If you are a freelancer, virtual assistant or service based business, you can choose any of the platforms (such as Wix, Squarespace or WordPress). Try to have a think about what skills you will learn while building your site, and how you may be able to add that to your own resume. For example, if you decide to build using Wordpress, you will learn some valuable WordPress skills and will be able to offer them to other businesses as a service. Skills such as website maintenance, updating content or possibly even SEO. What are your clients using now? I always suggest Wordpress as my platform of choice. There isn't anything wrong with the others, Wordpress, however, is built by a community of developers. There are Wordpress meetups all over the world filled with people who are willing to help you learn skills. So how do you choose? Watch some youtube tutorials on all the platforms to get feel for them. You can download a copy of WordPress from WordPress.org and play with it on your home pc. Some other platforms have free trials. Don't let fear stop you, you can always change your mind down the track - it will be extra work but it can be done.

12.01.2022 Should you choose a local website designer? I’m in over 200 Facebook groups - local sunshine coast community groups, gardening groups, business groups and many many more (WHY??) . In the local community groups, each week there are many people asking for recommendations for a website designer. There are always 100s of replies. With SOOOO many local designers, how do you choose the right one? How can you be sure you won’t get ripped off? Sh...ould you choose a local designer? I tell my clients the best way to find the right designer or developer is to firstly work out what you want your website to do. This might change after you have talked to a few website designers. Each designer has different skills, some are focused on quick, short and sweet websites - the aim is to get you launched as quickly and cheaply as possible. Some focus on marketing - they will you up with a full functioning lead generation machine. Some focus on graphic designers and will be looking at bringing a beautiful arty masterpiece to life for you. And some are full-stack developers and can make your website do custom things that a simple plugin won't. Before starting your project, you need to treat it like any other project. List out your objectives, budget and time frame. Take a look at some other peoples websites, make a wish list. Speak to other business, friends and family and ask for recommendations. Make a list of websites you like the look or function of. Many websites have the designer’s details in the footer (the bottom) of the website. You instantly have that designers details and that could be the first designer you call. Do you need to go local? No of course not - recommendations are key and do your research. 12.01.2022 I’ve just finished off building a website for The Funtastic Tour Company- they are based in Caloundra and do group day tours and longer holiday’s. They have lots of awesome tours coming out so check them out if you are a local. They had to shut down their business during Covid but used the time to totally rebrand and rename their business. It was super fun website to work on. www.thefuntastictourcompany.com.au

08.01.2022 Hello Lovely Ladies & Gents, I hope you have had a good week so far? I have! I love school holidays and this time we have had no plans, so lots of lazy mornings, catch-ups with friends and families and bushwalks. Anyhow back to the point of this post! Are you thinking about building a website? Or maybe thinking of a website makeover? ... I've recently finished my latest planner and I designed it for YOU to help you get organised and not waste time. It's 25 pages and it will get all those ideas out of your head and onto a clear plan. It's a simple workflow that I use when building a new website. The aim is to get you to make some decisions about your website, to give you clarity on things like colours and fonts, but it's also important not to neglect the function of your website. My planner prompts you to not only think about the look of your website but also what you want your website to DO for you. The topics include Brainstorming & Budget Branding Function Structure Content Admin Glossary & notes Link to my locked resources page The workbook is for sale in my store now for 9 AUD and comes with a link to a resources page with all my handy online tools for choosing colours, fonts, where to purchase cool custom fonts and guidance on what to do after you've nailed your plan. I hope you find it valuable - it's quite a steal and I wish I had something like this when I first started my first website. It would have saved me so much time! Link to my website in bio - click on Website Planning Workbook and you’ll be taken to the product page! Take care https://www.plinkit.com.au/produ/website-planning-workbook/ @ Caloundra, Queensland

08.01.2022 Have you ever want to use cool weird blobs in your designs? These blobs look great in backgrounds, as dot points or as part of a graphic. And of course, there is an app for that! A blob maker app :) https://www.blobmaker.app... Have fun with the blob maker! See more

07.01.2022 A beautiful website for a beautiful business. I've just had the pleasure to build and launch a new website for Annette from Pilates on Centre, a pilates studio that has been on the coast for over 20 years. Even though they don't need any more business, they are always booked out, they needed a website that would match their business. Gorgeous, inviting, welcoming and classy.... Thanks Annette for trusting me with building your website. If you need a new website, I'm currently booked out until May, but still reach out, we can start the preperation and planning now and get ready to kick it off in May. I'm also introducing a new website in a day model. This will be hard work for both of us, but if you are an organised & decisive person, this could be a model that suits you. https://pilatesoncentre.com.au

06.01.2022 If you are struggling to create good pictures and graphics for your website, here are some suggestions. www.canva.com is an alternative to photoshop and helps you to create really cool graphics for your website, for example images for blog posts that need text over the top. You can also use free stock images for your blog post pictures. Look into www.pexels.com www.unsplash.com... www.freepik.com I also suggest taking screen shots of different images that you like on other blog posts you like. Save them in an album on your phone and refer back to them when creating your own graphics. This will help you to start working out your own style and give you lots of inspiration! See more

06.01.2022 Should you build a website yourself? It comes down to time vs money. If you are planning on a digital business (blog - online course etc) then if you have the time it is worth learning yourself. As your business grows you can outsource it. If you are a local business that only wants to set up a brochure style website and you have the funds - then employ someone else to do it (if you have the funds) as your time is best spent on your business vs learning to build a website. A ...basic starter website can start at as little as $395 AUD. That’s all you need to get up and running and once your business evolves you can spend more $$ to make your website work for you (think SEO / Booking systems etc) but at the start a basic website is fine. If you are wanting to build a site yourself then go for it! Not only will you save yourself $$$ down the track, because each time you need to make a change you can do it instantly. If you are a #va you can add Wordpress website skills to your resume and you can earn $$$ designing and making changes to other people’s sites. It’s a great skill to learn. #diywebsite #diywebsites #diywordpresswebsites #webdesign #virtualassistant #virtualassistantservices #virtualadmin #administrativeassistant #creativebusinessideas #creativebusiness #wordpresshintsandtips #wordpresstips #wordpressdesigner #wordpressblog #wordpresswebsite #wordpresstutorials #wordpresscommunity #wordpresslover #adminsupport #smallbusinessowner #smallbiztips #smallbizsquad #smallbusinessau #smallbusiness

05.01.2022 Good Morning Lovelies, I hope you are all well this afternoon. Another beautiful flower I found on my morning walk this week. I've been a bit lazy the last week or so with my morning walks. My 8-year-old son is a super poor sleeper & the whole family has been sleep-deprived the last month or so, I've found it hard to get going. BUT I think we have turned a corner. We found a super awesome holistic dr who has given us some ideas so slowly fingers crossed! One of these years... he will sleep through the night lol! Anyhow, back to websites - if you are confused about all the options in WordPress, my advice always is take it one day at a time. The most important thing, like any new skill, is practising as much as possible. Look at other websites for inspiration and join as may WordPress related Facebook groups as possible (I have one you can join - link in bio) and there are heaps to choose from. I post in them all the time, there is always room to learn more. Take care & have a lovely day. #nature_captures #pinkflowers #pinkflowers #naturelovers #replenish #selfcare #plants #winterflowers #wordpressblogger #flowersofinstagram #pinkflowers #creativepost #creativebusiness #wordpressblogger #bloggerlife #brisbanesmallbusiness #wordpressdesign #flowers #homegrown #garden #pink #red #TransformationTuesday #TipTuesday #TechTuesday #GoodNewsTues #TuesdayTunes #TakeMeBackTuesday #TopicTuesday

05.01.2022 Another site completed Who would have thought welding & sheetmetal could be so exciting! When I first saw their Facebook page I knew they needed a static place to showcase Stu’s creations. I really had fun putting this one together.

03.01.2022 Good Morning to you! Collecting fonts can be so addictive! I really need to unsubscribe from a bunch of font companies!!! If you are stuck on which font to choose for your website, you can head to google fonts who have a huge range of different styles of fonts. ... When you narrow down the styles you like, Serif vs Sans Serif or Decorative vs Handwriting, you can then venture on to custom fonts, check out @etsy, @fontbundles or @creativemarket and check out the options. Be warned it is very addictive! See more

03.01.2022 One of my latest website builds was for Hollie from Bell Yoga Brightwater. The website was for her new business venture, a health and wellness hub for a number of practitioners. She required a quick one-page website that she was going to build herself, but decided to outsource to me to save herself some time. ... The website included a basic booking system that allows her client to book and pay online and for each of her practitioners to list a basic bio. It was completed in one week from start to finish. It included full training notes (& video) so Hollie is able to update and manage her website in the future saving her $$. https://www.bwhub.com.au

02.01.2022 Have you ever used Wordclouds? It is a fabulous tool for getting a visual of how many times you use a word in a paragraph or page. You paste your text into the tool and the more times you use a word, the bigger it appears in the picture. It is a great tool for SEO (the biggest words will be what Google sees as your keywords and what you will rank for) and for double checking the tone of your text. Are your word choices positive or negative? Are words you have used the most appealing? You really can get a good feel for your text by seeing it displayed this way. Wordclouds is a free website. Just google Wordclouds and you will find it.

01.01.2022 Super excited to see the launch of Rene Michele’s memebership. Rene is an author, speaker and mentor who helps women who have experienced trauma & abuse. A survivor herself, she turned her life around to be now working mentoring others helping organizations like the Queensland Police to improve the way they support victims of abuse. Tonight she launched a monthly membership to create a safe space for members to work together to address hurdles in their lives. She has worked incredibly hard to get to this point and I wish her the very best! It’s been great working on the tech for such a worthy purpose.

01.01.2022 Plugins improve the functionality of Wordpress, they are similar to an app on your phone. There are 1000s of different options, it can get overwhelming and FOMO is real!. My favourite Wordpress plugins are: > Elementor - great for design beautiful custom pages without knowing how to code using HTML or CSS > Yoast - get your site ranking on google with this SEO plugin... > Asset clean up - A bit on the technical side, but is a super awesome plugin for speeding up your website by removing scripts that are loading unnecessarily > Wordfence - for security from hackers > Updraft - easily back up your site > Woo Commerce - add a store to your site All of these plugins are free (some have pro versions that are a premium). What are your favourite plugins? See more
