25.01.2022 Aso Faraile - 29th Me 2020 Today we are posting up a throwback video to celebrate Samoan Language Week. In 1995 our current Director Sione Palu was cast as Uncle Charles in his class production called ‘Fresh off the Boat’ written by Oscar Kightley. Even though young Sione (with long hair) is Tongan the role required him to speak in gagana Samoa. Here is a scene from this play. Manuia le aso

23.01.2022 Aso To'ona'i, 30th Me, 2020 As we come to the end of Samoan Language Week, we want to remind you all of our school theme this year - 'O la'u gagana o lo'u so'otaga'- My language is my connection. Our school theme connects beautifully to the theme - Tapena sou oso o lou malaga' - Prepare yourself a gift for your travels'. As our students journey through life, we want them to remember that their Samoan language is their gift - to their family, friends, and those that they con...nect with. Thank you to our Manono, Year 2-3 Samoan Language teacher Vaepa Brown, for putting this video together. We love Koko Araisa! 16.01.2022 Talofa lava and Malo e lelei, The Polynesian Kids Community Language School is launching a series where we will promote family businesses who have enrolled their child(ren) with our School. This is a small token of our support for one another and promoting and encouraging everyone to support our local businesses, especially through these unprecedented times. This week we have the privilege of promoting Avau Faafuata who owns and runs UNEEK DESIGNS. Check out some of the amazi...ng work he has done and is currently promoting. Please read about his business below. Hi everyone, my name is Avau Faafuata I’m a Samoan living in Melbourne. Born in Samoa, but grew up in Auckland and Wellington New Zealand. Moved here to Melbourne with my wife who is of Tongan nationality and we have 4 beautiful children. I’ve always been into art and graphic design. I’m a signwritter and Graphic Designer by trade and have been doing it for over 15 years. I’ve also gained a lot of new skills while living here in Melbourne, building and construction and The last almost 3 years doing upholstery. I have recently decided to jump in to the deep end, with the whole pandemic going on and with restrictions in place and having no work, I decided that this would be the best time to go at it and do my own thing. So here I am, with my business that has been in planning stages for so many years and now it’s real. UNEEK DESIGN, is not your typical clothing brand or design company, I deliver more of my Pacific island background and culture into my work, the dedication, hard work and the ability of producing the best product and quality, but also the ability to conform to whatever and whoever. I’m a proud Samoan and I’m proud of my wife and her Tongan Culture and our lovely Pacific islands. I promise to deliver nothing but the best quality and designs that no one else has thought of, always thinking outside the box. Uneek Design, has diversely open its products to all sorts. From Apparel (Clothing), Canvases (Family portraits/artwork), plaques, Signage, logo designs and much more. If you feel like your company needs a revamp or someone you know needs Apparel for their sports clubs or you just want a one off t-shirt or hoodie, contact me via Facebook. Thank you much love to you all, and stay safe.. UNEEK DESIGN. Check out some of my work and designs, follow and share.

16.01.2022 Here is a video reminding us of the joy it brings when we are all together. The song is Tu I Luga (stand up) by Lole and one that we play in the foyer at school because it is a song of encouragement and strength. It is one of meaning and purpose and we felt it was fitting to have this song as it celebrates being Polynesian even though it's mainly in Samoan. This is our children and our seed. May we continue to nurture them to be the pioneers, trail blazers and visionaries of tomorrow. Ofa lahi atu mo Alofa tele atu. Love from the team at PKCLS

12.01.2022 We have set up a group called 'PKCLS Parents' here on Facebook for parents of currently enrolled students of our school. 10.01.2022 This is a special week for our Samoan people as we celebrate our Samoan Language. The theme for Samoan Language week is, 'Tapena sou so mo lau malaga' which in English means, 'Prepare yourself a gift for your travels'. For our school here in Melbourne, our theme is, 'O la'u gagana o lo'u so'otaga'- My language is my connection. Everyday this week, we will be posting a word or phrase in the Samoan language that you and your family can practice in your home. So please follow us!

09.01.2022 Who will you watch this with?

08.01.2022 Talofa lava and Malo lelei, On behalf of the Polynesian Kids Community Language School Board and teaching staff, we would like to wish you all a blessed Christmas and a prosperous New Year. 2020 has been a year that no one predicted or was prepared for but I must say, it has been a year that forced most, if not all of us, to reflect on what is important in life. ... It also made us realise what we took for granted. It changed our world in a way that we never thought was possible. Masks and hand sanitisers are now symbols of this era. We understood that all cultures were vulnerable and no one was exempt. Through it all our team worked tirelessly to ensure that there was a place for our kids to meet and to also continue their learning even though it wasn't at the capacity we would've desired for it to be but it was something and we learnt some valuable lessons along the way. We invite you to join us again next year and since we have upgraded our enrolment systems please complete the new online forms for your children. Below are the links to our new online forms for enrolment and school uniform order. 2021 PKCLS Enrolment Form Link - https://forms.gle/HmPoZZPvP5wjFxPF9 2021 PKCLS Uniform Link - https://forms.gle/JVUcnD994akPMm149 We are really excited about next year and we want to continue to build on the momentum created in 2020, so please encourage one another to jump on board next year. We hope to see you all again on the 30th January 2021 at the Wyndham Park Community Centre, Werribee at 2pm. Fa'afetai lava and Malo 'aupito Sione Palu Director Polynesian Kids Community Language School Inc. Website: www.polynesiankids.org Our Ancestors reach out to us from across the ocean. We will not forget where we have come from. We are proud of who we are. *KNOWLEDGE*FAMILY*COURAGE*

07.01.2022 On behalf of Sione and Sesilia Palu and the Polynesian Kids Community Language School board we would like to thank our Teachers, Parents, Extended Families, Supporters, Partners and especially our children for coming through what has been a peculiar year. On Saturday most of our families gathered together for the first time since March. It was such a beautiful time and our children loved it. Here is a short video of our celebration. The music is by LANI ALO - ALO I OU FAIVA f...t LIVINGSTONE EFU credit Lani Alo Music It is based on a traditional Smoan proverb, the meaning of Alo i ou faiva is a pronounced blessing given by family and friends to strengthen us and bear us up as we embark on a journey that maps out our destiny for success in our aspirations in life. This is a powerful message not just for our Samoan familes but for all Polynesia.

02.01.2022 With our learning environment changing and restrictions in place. We are looking at innovative and creative ways to teaching our Pasifika families. In the meantime we will share some great tools and videos of how others are creatively sharing their stories, thoughts and ideas. Here is a great video episode created for our Pacific people and the importance of learning about our cultures and languages. Enjoy!

PKCLS Autu: 'O la'u gagana o lo'u so'otaga' - My language my connection. Alagaupu Samoa - Samoa Proverb... 'O le ala i le pule, o le tautua' - The pathway to leadership, is through service. "Au mai se ipu ki!" is one of the first lines we learn as a child. Yes, making a cup of tea/coffee for our parents, aunts, uncles, mama, papa, 2nd cousin 4 times removed, is our kick start to serving our family. What may seem like a mundane task at the time, is a foundation for how we grow in life, taking on many more tasks and services and using these lessons of service to build our character and person. Can someone make me a ipu ki now please! Fa'afetai lava ma ia manuia le aso! #SLW2020worldwide #samoanlanguageweek
