20.01.2022 COOKING WITH PETA Each morning the children engage in a cooking class with our wonderful Educator/Cook- extraordinaire. Cooking is a great way to increase language development and math ability. As well as enhancing fine motor skills, cooking also introduces Children to scientific concepts whilst mixing ingredients. It's also a terrific way to teach life skills and promote healthy eating.

19.01.2022 Book Week 2020-to celebrate Children’s Book Week last week, we brought some of our favourite stories and characters to life with Book Week dress up day!During the day, we explored the wild adventure from Michael Rosen’s classic Were going on a Bear Hunt. Using tubs of various materials the children were able to step into a group time favourite and experience the events that followed throughout the book. Beginning with a stroll through the wavy grass, then stepping into the cold river, the children then stomped through the thick oozy mud. After pushing through the dark forest and snowstorm, the children carefully looked into the cave to find... a bear!

15.01.2022 Recently we were lucky enough to have the wonderful Paramedics from Pomona QLD Ambulance Service come to visit. The children learnt all about the important role that Paramedics play in our community. The different equipment and medical techniques used by Paramedics. How ambulances assist Paramedics to do their job and what the inside of an ambulance looks like. A huge thankyou to our amazing local Paramedics for taking the time out of your busy schedules to visit us and for all you do for our community every day!

13.01.2022 This week we are taking part in the Aussie Backyard Bird Count! The #AussieBirdCount is a great way to connect with the birds in your backyard, no matter where your backyard might be whether it's a suburban backyard, a local park, a patch of forest, a farm, down by the beach, or the main street of town. All you need to take part is 20 minutes and your favourite outdoor space - you don't even have to leave home, making it the ultimate Covid-safe activity! As well as contributing to BirdLife Australia's knowledge of Aussie Birds, you will have the chance to win some great prizes (we'll be revealing those shortly)! Head to the website and register as a Counter today. https://aussiebirdcount.org.au/ watch this space for an update of the birds we spot at PECC throughout the week!

12.01.2022 Each week our kindy group engage in a Bush Kindy program. Inspired by the ‘forest schools’ of Denmark and Scandinavia, nature based, play offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions in natural environments. This week the children's inquiries took them to the creek where they experimented with ropes, buckets and planks of wood they found on site. This type of investigative play helps develop children's critical thinking skills, and it's SO MUCH FUN!

07.01.2022 'COMMUNITY PANTRY' AT POMONA EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTRE One of our lovely educators Lily suggested a fabulous initiative to support each other in these uncertain times. Today we have established a 'Community Pantry' in our foyer where educators and families can donate food and take donated non-perishable food items that might be in short supply. The purpose of our community pantry is to take what you need, replace an item that you have surplus of and share food among our communit...y so that no family goes without. Please be mindful of what you are adding - ensure that it is in date, not damaged and a food item that you know another family might need. It might be a spare tin of tomatoes, a packet of pasta or cereal or even some toilet paper. Please don't leave any cleaning chemicals. If we all support and care for one another it will make this difficult time in our community seem a little easier. We are so fortunate to have such a caring and thoughtful team of educators. Have a lovely weekend. xxx Tash

06.01.2022 During this week, the Kindy children and senior toddlers collaborated to make a poppy wreath using recycled materials from our centre. Using egg cartons and cardboard, the children made and painted poppies. We discussed with the children the meaning behind poppies being a symbol of remembrance on this day, and explained how Poppies were a common sight during the First World War as they flourished along the fields. As we laid our wreath, we acknowledged and remembered all fallen soldiers, including traditional owners of this land. On this day, we remember them; Lest We Forget.

01.01.2022 Our favourite book right now.....'The Great Realisation'- by Tomos Roberts First performed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this inspiring poem with it's message of hope and resilience is transferred into a wonderful story for all readers young and old, who dare to dream of a fairer, kinder, more loving world. realisation-af4dc72df161

01.01.2022 We thought we'd share what our daily coming together for an acknowledgment of country looks like at PECC. This daily ritual encourages children to engage with diversity and provides an opportunity to acknowledge and pay respect to First Nations people and to connect to local country. It also provides opportunities to build relationships and creates a sense of belonging for our educators and children.

01.01.2022 Outdoor Classroom day 2020- Outdoor Classroom Day is a global movement to inspire and celebrate outdoor play and learning, at home and at school. 01.01.2022 Majestic Theatre. Today the Kindy children were treated to a tour of Pomona’s Majestic Theatre. The Majestic is the only theatre in the world that still continually shows silent films. Today the children were invited to see the stage, the green room and lots of beautiful antiques including the grand old organ played by Ron West. Ron has been involved with the theatre since 1973. We are so lucky to have such an amazing historical asset right here in our town. A big thankyou to all the wonderful volunteers that keep this beautiful old treasure running. If you are keen to see the theatre yourself- the Majestic is presenting ‘CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG’ 24th September at 3pm. Tickets are $10 each and can be booked online www.themajestictheatre.com.au
