21.01.2022 200 litres always in the mix. It’s fascinating that if we leave our slip mixers on, the mass of slip becomes warm to the touch after about 24 hours due to the friction of the clay particles colliding. Also fascinating that the longer you leave clay slip mixing like this, the smoother and finer the mix becomes because the clay particles actually wear each other away, a little like the action of a lapidary tumbler. #fascinatingphysics #physics

10.01.2022 Raw, bisque fired porcelain. Its first firing leaves it like chalk, porous but not water soluble. The next stage is glazing before it goes through its highest firing to near 1300 degrees C. When it comes from the final firing, the material changes dramatically and resembles translucent white glass; magic. Anything that doesn’t make it past this stage, any flawed items, are added to our recycling program, nothing is wasted as we head toward our aim to be a zero waste producer by 01/01/21. #oneearth #loveyourplanet

01.01.2022 Green with beauty.. as we work toward the completion of one of our largest commissions, Melbourne’s new Hyatt Centric Hotel, we’re surrounded by beautiful green glazed tiles. Our glazes are often allowed to vary in tone, application and intensity. When used in a context such as this sublime brick wall, and our Husky Cubes or Metro series, the variations give vitality, warmth and depth.
