23.01.2022 UPDATED BANKING AT THE PORT FAIRY POST OFFICE. With the announced closures of the ANZ bank and the Commonwealth bank in Port Fairy, we are getting a lot of questions about how to bank at the Post Office. ... The following are some facts........ Firstly the ANZ bank did not sign on with Australia Post for banking services, so we cannot process any ANZ transactions. For Commonwealth Bank customers, you can withdraw, deposit or perform a balance enquiry on your account at Australia Post. To do this, you will need a bank card, a passbook or a deposit slip with a barcode that is linked to your account. For CBA customers, generally the maximum amount of money that you can withdraw on any day is $2,000. The maximum amount of money that you can deposit on any day is $6,000. This varies for those who only have a passbook account. Their maximum withdrawal is limited to only $2,000 per week. Deposit and withdrawal limits vary for other Financial Institutions. Australia Post do not charge you any fees for withdrawals but you need to check with the Commonwealth Bank on your account for any fees that may be incurred. Australia Post do not generate bank cheques. Our equivalent is called a Money Order. The service fee to create a money order is $11. The maximum amount that a Money Order can be made out for is $5,000. Australia Post offer a cash exchange service. You can bring in coins to change to notes, or you can bring in notes to change for coins. There is a fee for this service. For amounts less than $400, the fee is $4.50. For amounts above $400, the fee is $8.50. Hope this helps. Please share
