25.01.2022 A blustery northerly sea breeze greeted 5 yachts for the first Ocean Bouy race of 2020. After a slightly delayed start, JForce lead ZigZag and Enticer up the first leg after Indian Pacific slowed with headsail issues. The Number 4 course consist of a triangle, sausage and triangle around the 3 marks laid with the top mark some 1.4 nautical mile from the bird rock start and then onto a mark off the north shore. After the first lap ZigZag lead JForce around the bird rock mark w...ith Indian and Enticer no more than 300 meters behind. The second lap JForce had opened a gap but Indian had closed on Zig Zag rounding the mark in close quarters with Enticer close behind. Indian split with the other yachts up the last work to the sea bouy but was headed on both tacks allowing JForce to extend her lead over the fleet. Zig Zag and Indian had a close Port vs Starboard nearing the top mark however in the freshening Nor North Easter, Zig Zag showed a massive speed advantage heading into the beach and pulled past Indian, surfing down the 4 meter waves at over 10 knots. Over the line, Cool Change racing in Division one finished first, JForce a clear leader in Division two with Zig Zag, Indian and Enticer followed in that order. Handicap results will be posted at https://www.pmyc.com.au/racing/racing-results/ shortly. Next weekend the yachts will be racing inshore in the long river series and the following week will see two days racing offshore in the Regatta. The full event schedule is available here https://www.pmyc.com.au/racing/

09.01.2022 Wind Knocked out of Sails As the sun sets over the glistening water of Wallis Lake, we feel blessed that we live in such a wonderful location. The lake links us... all, from Pacific Palms in the south, west to Coomba Park and north to the shores of Forster and Tuncurry. The Sailing Club on the eastern shore is nestled amongst the ubiquitous palms that are endemic to the area. It is the club members who have developed this once sand-mining lease and maintained this special space. The place is special, so special to all of us. During the week mums and dads bring the kids- too small for the beach and the surf, to play on the shore. On the weekend sailboarders rig on the shore, families gather on the grass and kids play in the water and occasionally we get out for a sail. During the season the club hosts regattas. Big regattas that have lived on beyond the Oyster festival and have a following that is Australia wide and known around the world. The club, the covered areas, the grassed areas, built and maintained by members. All of it, every cent, from the club’s hard work. It knocks the wind from your sails when you find the club broken into, you sort of feel violated, once the anger has passed. Fires lit on the floor- I remember laying that Lino. Cupboards stripped bare of 1st Aid kits- the ones we use to help kids with splinters from those nasty palms, stingoes for the bites and bandages for the wounded. Our communication radios stripped from shelves and torn from rescue boats so we cannot safely conduct races. A Defibrillator. Really! Why would you take a club’s Defib’. Safety gear from rescue boats. More radios, rescue knives- the ones specifically designed to cut through webbing and to save stranded sailors- but useless to open a cardboard box. The Computer, stolen without a power cord and protected by a password. Gone with seasons of results and thousands of photos of fierce competitors. There is more, and the thieving was pure senseless. We rebuilt after the storm took our roof in December 2018, we shut-down through the fires in 2019 and locked up through Covid- cancelled our regattas and scuppered our hopes of a sailing season. This is a low blow. Sadly, we are now committed to replacing our safety equipment and spending our precious funds on rebuilding our little club with alarms, sensors and cameras. Just so we can keep what we have worked for.
06.01.2022 Thanks to those club members that were able to attend the special meeting last night. It was really great to see new faces and be able to provide information about our return to sailing plans to cater for the additional requirements for COVID-19 If you had trouble with the technology or could not make it I can run through the presentation packs at a later time, just send a message to the club Facebook page or send an email any of the club executive. Hopefully we can get throu...gh what still looks like a mountain of work to get back to sailing. We are on track but will still need to keep pressing hard to make it. Thanks also to the messages of support, they are really appreciated. Andrew Vice Commodore See more

01.01.2022 I would say that the Sailpass implementation has not been without challenges, the rules from 1 Jan will be changed to enforce it. Andrew - Vice Commodore
