21.01.2022 Reminder that the NSW SES do NOT door knock and ask for donations, nor do they ring around requesting donations or ask for you to donate into a bank account. The SES have heaps on their hands at the moment and have a lot of work ahead, helping communities recover from this significant weather event. The last thing they would be doing at a time like this is knocking on doors for money! Please, DO NOT give money, your personal details or your financial details, including cred...it card numbers, to individuals who claim they work or volunteer for the SES. This is a scam that is currently going around, including in the Port Stephens region. If you wish to donate to the NSW SES, please go to their website on your own accord and follow the secure links to the SES website donation page. Ensure the webpage has a ‘lock’ symbol next to the website’s IRL. This is a symbol allocated to websites that have been checked and deemed ‘secure’ by Google.
21.01.2022 WEATHER UPDATE: It appears the last few drops of rain is falling across the area right now, with rain expected to clear over the next couple of hours. This will lead into sunshine for Wednesday morning across the majority of Port Stephens. 28 degrees and sunny conditions expected tomorrow, so hopefully this will help dry up some of the very wet roads at the moment. Can we take a second to thank the many many people who have worked tireless hours to help our community through...out this weather event. First and foremost, the NSW SES and RFS volunteers from across the area. You guys have and continue to do an absolutely amazing job. On behalf of our community, we can’t thank you enough for the countless hours that have gone into filling sandbags, protecting properties, draining flooded houses, blocking roads and everything else you have done to help the community in some very difficult times. Port Stephens Council, Ausgrid, Hunter Water, NSW Police and NSW ambulance and many others who have worked long hours and gone above and beyond to respond and assist our community, thank you! Please be patient, the cleanup has just begun and hasn’t even started in some areas. Several roads will remain closed for weeks and months, as complex repairs and even rebuilds are carried out in affected areas. This isn’t council’s fault, this is a weather event we don’t see to often and repairs are not as simple as relaying asphalt, so please be patient.
20.01.2022 Port Stephens Drive has now been re-opened, providing another route to the Tomaree Peninsula. Be advised, the road conditions are poor due to traffic volumes and the inability to provide permanent repairs due to ongoing rainfall. Please slow down and drive to the conditions.
19.01.2022 COVID 19 PORT STEPHENS: There is some confusion amongst some people about the current restrictions which have been implemented to curve the spread of Covid 19. Hopefully this provides some clarity Are we allowed to go to the beach? I have heard water police are moving people on from local beaches?... You may SWIM and WALK/EXERCISE on the beach only, practicing social distancing (1.5m) at all times with one other person (or with people that live in your household only - eg. kids). Essentially that means, you get out of your car, you walk down to the beach, you go for your swim/exercise, quickly get dry with a towel and leave. Note that local beaches are closed and therefore, there are no lifesaving patrols operating or flags erected, so swimming is at your own risk and is discouraged for swimmers/children who are unfamiliar with the beach conditions. YOU CAN NOT, sunbake on the sand or set up a beach umbrella and have lunch with mates, family or anyone else on the beach. Can I go visit friends? Have drinks with people I don’t live with? Or just drop in to say hello to my distant uncle I don’t live with? NO, you can NOT do any of these things. My family member is unwell, can I drop groceries off to them? I usually care for someone, am I still allowed to check on their welfare or give them their medications? I have shared custody with my ex partner, am I allowed to drop the kids off at their house?. Yes, there is exceptions for people for compassionate grounds to provide the necessary care to someone else, IF they are unable to do it themselves. Child custody arrangements are allowed as per child custody orders or any other child custody agreement in place. Can I go for a drive to get out of the house, so see ‘the sights’ or just for ‘something to do?. NO! You can not just drive around aimlessly, nor can you sit around Port Stephens aimlessly. The following are the only reasons you should leave home: going to work or education (if you are unable to do so at home). shopping for essential supplies such as groceries, return home without delay. going out for personal exercise in the neighbourhood, on your own or with one other. attending medical appointments or compassionate visits. Also includes getting medication or medical supplies. NSW health has confirmed there have been 34 cases of Covid 19 in Port Stephens so far. We are doing well and understand that this is an inconvenience and difficult time. However, without these measures, thousands of lives would have been lost already. The more we rally around and watch Netflix on the couch and limit exposure to others, the quicker this will be all over and things will return to normal. It’s difficult, we all know that! But it’s not permanent and it may just save the life of one of your family members, friends, colleagues or your own life! So please, stay inside, practice social distancing and wash your hands!

11.01.2022 Weather forecast Port Stephens: One more day of heavy rainfall, with up to 70mm of rainfall expected throughout Tuesday. This will further exacerbate flooding in certain areas, particularly around the river areas of Raymond Terrace and flood plain areas already impacted, such as Salt Ash and Bobs Farm. The good news? Beach weather is back! (Well, water conditions are far from ideal), with 28 degrees and sunshine forecast for Wednesday.... Hopefully this warm weather and sunshine will dry things out a bit! Beaches are closed and will remain closed for some time, as sediment and floodwaters have deposited into Port Stephens. For your own health and safety, do not go in the water until conditions improve. Rough seas are expected to continue throughout the week, as the system moves away from us.
