23.01.2022 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR WA KIDS (and chocolate lovers) Yesterday, I received a very important letter from Taylah, who is nine years old and lives in Thornlie.... Taylah asks: "Will the Easter Bunny be able to come to Western Australia this year? I heard that no one can come into Australia because of COVID-19." Well Taylah, I have some very important news to share with you and all WA kids today.

21.01.2022 Many students and teachers have difficulty connecting Maths to the real world. Students are left wondering "Why do I need to know this? What is the purpose?" Connecting a students interest to real world application allows students to understand the purpose and engage with the content they are learning. A Vision Hunter Education student is interested in becoming a detective. Here's two great resources we used to engage the student and provide them with the real world context ...they needed. https://www.mathscareers.org.uk//how-mathematics-helps-so/ https://www.pbslearningmedia.org//real-life-math-police-a/

11.01.2022 Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity, in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches", at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world. It's a great way to learn about the history of a location, get outdoors and sometimes get a free treasure. https://www.geocaching.com/play

09.01.2022 Perception has a major impact on learning. Students often express I hate Maths, I’m not good at this or I’m not smart enough. At Vision Hunter Education we understand the power of thought. We assess your child’s perception and use evidence based teaching strategies to change your child’s perception from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset, enabling your child to become a deeper learner with a love of learning. ... A child with a fixed mindset may not engage with the process of learning, believing that any challenges they face are due to a lack of natural talent, skill, or intelligence. They will approach learning and challenges with an I’m not good at this attitude. A student with a growth mindset will accept challenges and persevere in order to succeed. This student will face learning and challenges with an I have not mastered this ‘yet’ attitude. As an educator, I ask a lot of questions when students are struggling: ‘What is the challenge? What can you do? How will you solve it? What resources do you need? Who can help you?’ We have to help students develop strategies to help themselves. Yes, it takes time and patience to help a student process a situation. Yet, you come to understand that you are not just teaching a content area, you are teaching someone to be a learner and problem solver for life. Vision Hunter Education has openings for more students.

09.01.2022 Not only do you get a qualified teacher at Visionhunter Education, but I also hold a Science (STEM) specialisation. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM is important because it pervades every part of our lives. Science is everywhere in the world around us. Technology is continuously expanding into every aspect of our lives. Engineering is the basic designs of roads and bridges, but also tackles the challenges of changing global weather and ...environmentally-friendly changes to our home. Mathematics is in every occupation, every activity we do in our lives. By exposing students to STEM and giving them opportunities to explore STEM-related concepts, they will develop a passion for it. Programs outside of school can help children to see that STEM is more than a class to finish. Having activities that show real-life implication of STEM can pull together the ideas presented in school and help to show how they benefit our society and even our world as a whole. Children can see that what they are learning now is pertinent to their future and the future of the whole world, creating an interest often lacking when learning new concepts that do not seem to carry real-world application.

08.01.2022 What would my Mom think of that?" In a race, (see picture), athlete Abel Mutai representing Kenya, was just a few feet from the finish line, but he was confused... with the signage & stopped thinking he had completed the race. The Spanish athlete, Ivan Fernandez was right behind him & realizing what was happening, he started shouting at the Kenyan for him to continue running; but Mutai didn't know Spanish didn't understand. Then the Spanish pushed him to victory. A journalist asked Ivan, "Why did you do that?" Ivan replied, "My dream is that someday we can have a kind of community life". The journalist insisted "But why did you let the Kenyan win?" Ivan replied, "I didn't let him win, he was going to win". The journalist insisted again, "But you could have won!" Ivan looked at him & replied, "But what would be the merit of my victory? What would be the honour of that medal? What would my Mom think of that?" Values are transmitted from generation to generation. What values are we teaching our children? Let us not teach our kids the wrong ways & means to WIN #Ethics #Honesty https://youtu.be/HYqcqzSVH60

02.01.2022 Imagine a world without mobile phones, solar panels, cameras, nuclear reactors, black holes or gravitational waves. That's the world we're preparing our kids for. These things don't exist in the Newtonian world we teach.
