12.01.2022 With only 3 days to go until Mothers Day Classic Virtual 2020, weve got a message from a familiar face at the Port Hedland event our longstanding MC Elise Batchelor: What do you think when you see bright pink? The first thing people will often say these days isbreast cancer. Or, more to the point, breast cancer research! That is exactly what resonated with me for many, many years. But what do I think now? Well, for almost a decade, its been one thing only: False eyelas...hes at dawn. Yup. But not any old dawn. Noooo. I think of the only dawn in the year I put on false eyelashes and full make up at 4am. Its the one that falls on Mothers Day every year, when awesome people get up before its crack, often prepping with particularly pink, pastel or pretty precocious costumes and prod a bunch of equally bold, beautiful, brave (and sometimes buxom) buddies to do the Mothers Day Classic! The first time I wore pink for breast cancer was in about the year 2000, when I urged a bunch of colleagues to join me on Mothers Day in Melbourne for a trip around The Tan to do the Mothers Day Classic. It was 16 years into my own mums journey with breast cancer and the only sane reason I could think of to brace a ridiculous Melbourne chill to run. It has been such a privilege to host the Port Hedland event for several years now. Not only do I get to dress up for breakfast, but I have the honour of being continually inspired by hundreds of local people in their pursuit of a resonating dream: kicking breast cancer through research. This year, the event will take on a different shape as we ride the wave of a 2020 that looks like nothing anyone ever expected. But our purpose and journey remain paramount. We want a future that looks different for every person who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. And the simple fact is that we all know someone. What will you bring to this years virtual event? If not your false eyelashes, Im sure youll think pink and nail it!

11.01.2022 Tune in this Sunday to hear our special Mothers Day Classic guest speaker, Nicole Bathurst talk about her experience with breast cancer and also shares recomme...ndations as a dietitian and survivor to help other women optimise their health. Nicole is a pillar in the Hedland community having lived here for nearly 25 years. She was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 48 and was the guest speaker at the 2016 edition of Mothers Day Classic in Hedland. Nicole is dietitian at the Well Womens Centre and also runs her own business, Naturally Nic. The video will be available on the Town of Port Hedland Facebook page this Sunday from 10:00 AM. Bree Mason from Port Hedland Leisure will also be taking us through a relaxing yoga session following Nicoles speech.

We know you love the medallions as much as we do but during these uncertain times, the only way we can ensure that you will definitely receive your medallion before Mothers Day is for you to upgrade to the Virtual Plus event for an additional $20. This upgrade includes a race bib; 2020 Mothers Day Classic Medallion; sponsor giveaways; postage ...to your registered address and that special feeling when a package arrives in the mail. To minimise this extra cost, the Mothers Day Classic head office is developing a way to get your medallions (without the full race pack) to you without posting them and incurring extra charges.
