25.01.2022 The Port Hedland Turf Club recently held its AGM, and we are pleased to announce our 2020 race season executive committee members. President: Tony Barron Vice President: Jayne Kelman Secretary: Trish Barron... Treasurer: Amy Mann Since our club is made up of local volunteers, wed like to thank our executive committee and committee members for their ongoing support and commitment. Without these hard working individuals our club wouldnt be able to bring Port Hedland its amazing race season. A big shout out goes to Darren White who has this year retired from the presidents position. As Darren hands over the reins to Tony, wed like to thank Darren for all his hard work over the years. From all the Port Hedland Turf Club committee, THANK YOU!

24.01.2022 Dear Hedland Punters and Patrons Since the Federal Governments ban on non-essential gatherings as a measure to manage COVID-19, racing in WA has continued with only those essential to the running of the races being granted access to the racecourse at all times. Racing and Wagering WA has advised that this measure applies to all race meetings including those held by country/regional race clubs.... As a result, the PHTC is postponing the sale of 2020 memberships until further notice and will refund those already purchased. Whilst this decision is regrettable, the PHTC supports the implementation of consistent risk mitigation as paramount to safeguarding the health and safety of the community and the participants of the racing industry during these uncertain times. The PHTC is aware of how much the community looks forward to attending race days in Hedland and particularly Ladies Day and Cup Day. And whilst we have considered holding race day events offsite, we believe we must act responsibly and show leadership in limiting the communitys potential exposure to any health risk. In the meantime, we will be working in the background to make sure that we are ready to reopen the gates to the public as soon as possible, subject to the advice of Racing and Wagering WA. Please note that the Hedland races will be broadcast by Sky Channel. The PHTC will keep you informed of any further changes as it is advised by Racing and Wagering WA.

What an exciting opportunity for the PHTC - the broadcast will include interviews with some of our more colourful local racing identi...ties. You are more than welcome to come on down and watch the broadcast live in the VIP Marquee and maybe volunteer a few minutes of your time throwing some shade (shelters that is) before you leave. 13.01.2022 The PHTC Committee conveys its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mr Nick Furnivall, who has sadly passed away after a courageous fight. Our thoughts are also with the NWJC and Yaandina Community Services at this time. A well-respected member of the Pilbara community, Nick will be greatly missed.

12.01.2022 Hola Racing Fashionistas....prepping for a big win in the Best Dressed stakes tomorrow....then heres some important info you need to know. Registrations for the WA Fashions on the Field Pilbara Heat - open at 12n and close at 1.30pm. The Registrations Marquee is located on the right as you enter the Turf Club and the WA FotF team will be on hand to assist. The Marquee will be set up with mirrors and bits and pieces for that last-minute jhooshing, primping and lippy fixi...ng. The heats kick off after the first race (1.35pm). The WA FotF team runs a tight ship so make sure youre ready to go when your name and number are called. There are some great prizes up for grabs and the overall winner will be flown to Perth in December to compete in what can only be described as the best Fashions on the Field competition in Australia. And dont forget the Mens Best Dressed comp with prizes for Winner and Runner Up happening straight after the FotF comp. Hedlands hoping to go 3 out of 4 - good luck everyone and may the best-dressed win.

We are back online and preparing for the 2021 Hedland racing season - race dates posted on our Facebook cover - 3 Saturday race meets this year including Ladies Day which is a bonus. Membership details and more information about the upcoming season will be posted over the coming weeks.

07.01.2022 Dear Hedland Punters and Patrons RWWA has announced that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is cancelling all race meetings in the Northwest including Port Hedland for the 2020 season. This decision has been made as a further health and safety measure to protect industry participants and local communities. Whilst this is disappointing, it is not unexpected and a sensible measure, given the extraordinary times we are currently experiencing.... Our thoughts go out to our country trainers, their staff, jockeys and owners who will be particularly affected by this decision. The PHTC is pleased that RWWA will look to providing additional opportunities for them to race throughout the year in the Southwest of the State. In the meantime, the PHTC will continue to work in the background preparing for a bigger and brighter 2021 Port Hedland racing season. The PHTC Committee thanks the community for its understanding and support. Everyone please stay safe during this period of uncertainty, look out for your family, friends and neighbours and most important of all, be kind to each other.
