25.01.2022 Creative Play is central to the Steiner Kindergarten. Play is a child’s work. We see the play of children in Kindergarten develop and become more sophisticated. Here in their play, the children are seeing the world around them more clearly, as their thinking begins to start linking ideas. They often spend more time planning their play, than playing. They remember their play from the day before and often want to recreate this play again. It is their therapy as they digest the world that they are coming to know.

15.01.2022 Happy birthday to our Principal, Kristy! We hope you have a relaxing and beautiful day, Kristy.

14.01.2022 Working with Steiner’s threefold picture of the Head, Heart and Hands, the children have an opportunity each afternoon to work creatively with a particular artistic activity, such as watercolour painting, drawing, wax sculpting, handcrafts or woodwork. The teacher carefully chooses activities which help to develop particular skills and abilities in the young child, such as wool winding, finger-knitting, French-knitting and weaving. They are all considered to be important foun...dation fine motor, concentration and computational skills required for their more academic years. They also create an important opportunity for the young child to experience working on a project that requires particular steps, sequences and a certain level of perseverance, which is vital to help the development of their will forces. The young child now learns to master certain proprioception and self-movement skills.

14.01.2022 Something unique to Steiner Education is the beautiful hand-drawn chalkboard drawings that the teachers create throughout each Main Lesson. Each day the children take delight in seeing what new drawing will be revealed as the teacher opens up the wings of the chalkboard... something connected from the story content they heard the previous day. Steiner education is embedded with beauty and art, which the children creatively work with each and every day.

12.01.2022 In our Kindergarten, the children share a wholesome meal each day which they help to make. We foster activities that are process-driven and here the children get to use simple, warm technologies, such as rolling the groats into oats and milling the fresh linseed and coconut. They are involved in measuring, grating, chopping, peeling, washing, setting the table, pouring jugs of water or pots or warm tea. Often the children go into the garden to pick fresh herbs for teas and ve...getables for soup day. They delight in the connection of being able to harvest fresh food from the veggie patch that they have cared for and worked in. There is reverence at the meal table. A meal-time candle is lit and a blessing of gratitude is said. We bring our best manners to the table and the golden helpers take pride in serving their classmates. The children learn to try new foods and also to share conversation at the table, listening to others and sometimes eating in quiet to really enjoy and notice the different tastes of the food they are eating. 08.01.2022 In our Kindergarten, the children develop their own experiences and relationship to the various artistic mediums, such as an exploration of the primary colours in their weekly watercolour painting. One of the best experiences of colour for the young child comes through painting with watercolours on wet paper. Colours are in their own true element in water. Colours move and creep and spread across the page. They play, they grow, they have life!

07.01.2022 Although we love to share what is happening in our school, it’s wonderful to see some of the outcomes of year 12 Steiner students from other schools. Well done Cape Byron Year 12 students. After a year like 2020, it’s incredible that you were still able to feel supported enough to achieve such outstanding HSC results.
