22.01.2022 This is my second submission for the photographic portrait prize for the National Portrait Gallery. I hope you can feel the peace between this couple and sense some familiarity with them after looking at this image. It is titled 'We are home now' and the description goes like this: "Mark and Heslin have been married for nearly 20 years and recently returned from PNG to Mark’s home in Australia with their three children. After braving immigration headwinds, they have finally settled into their own home in Goomeri. They miss the family and community spirit in Heslin’s home, but they are in a good place now."

21.01.2022 Today is judgement day and the finalists of the photographic portrait prize at the National Portrait Gallery will be notified today. I'm sitting on hot coals already. So what a moment to share my fourth submission with you. It's titled simply "Mark and Heslin" and this is the statement that provides the storyline to the image:... "I approached Mark and Heslin to photograph them as a couple when I noticed the striking contrast in both height and colour, yet noticed the obvious peace between them. They are clearly at home in each other’s company - radiating the intimacy that only builds by overcoming life’s obstacles with locked arms."

20.01.2022 This is my third submission for the photographic portrait prize for the National Portrait Gallery. It's titled 'Grumpy' and the card in the gallery will read like this: "Mike was sent into the tunnels of Vietnam in his late teens. Already traumatised with PTSD that had begun to rule his life, he then navigated the dangers of PNG’s gold mines, exacerbating the trauma.... He still feels the pain every day. He is buoyed by the love of his wife, kids and grandkids. They call him ‘Grumpy’. Not that he is, but because that’s how he sees himself."

17.01.2022 This is another shot from the series of 'Grumpy' I posted earlier in the week. This is the photo his kids and grandkids will remember him by - pensive, but with a sharp yet silly humour that will strike at any second!

01.01.2022 This is the first of my four submissions for the photographic portrait prize for the National Portrait Gallery. I'd love to hear from you whether you like or not! The portrait is titled 'And so the tradition continues' and tells the story of John, as depicted in the accompanying statement below. "Wearing the skull cap handed to him as a 17-year old lifesaver in Noosa in 1959, John Fancourt dedicated his life to Surf Lifesaving and has not missed a single season since. He volu...nteered at club, state and national level, took charge of fundraising and supported the growth of this Australian institution into what it is today. Sixty-two years later and despite suffering from advanced Parkinsons, John still does his regular patrols. It’s easy to overlook this giant now. But he’s here. Here to hand the baton to the next generation." A big thanks again to all who have participated in this shoot - John, naturally as the main protagonist and everybody acting as extras, helping out with holding reflectors and all those beachgoers who were intrigued and looked at us thinking "what the heck are these guys doing with an Edwardian chair on the beach?!?!?!"
