25.01.2022 You are so busy being YOU that you have no idea how utterly unprecedented you are. John Green
24.01.2022 Self expression is a function of responsibility. - Werner Erhard I take this portraiture thing pretty seriously.
24.01.2022 The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease for ever to be able to do it. - J. M. Barrie, Peter Pan
24.01.2022 If we wish to grow, we need to spend time in the unknown. If we're not exploring the unknown, we're not growing, we're not adapting, and we're not getting stronger. - Chris Duffin Sammi and Nathan are those kind of people. They seek out the unknown and thrive in exploring both external and within. ... Go check out them out!www.fuelcollective.com.au
24.01.2022 It’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then. - Lewis Carroll
21.01.2022 Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself. - Rumi :::... This is Eric. Hes one of those guys who has really done it all. But not the master of none type that weve come to think of folks these days. Id say hes as close to a genuine polymath Ive ever met. These days he is on stage, delivering some serious high level training in the most enjoyable ways. I actually met him at a public speaking workshop and he is just one of the best out there. You can see what hes all about at chocksaway.com.au
20.01.2022 Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean. - Ryunosuke Satoro
20.01.2022 Dare to love yourself as if you were a rainbow with gold at both ends. - Author-Poet Aberjhani
19.01.2022 Great art is the outward expression of an inner life in the artist, and this inner life will result in [her] personal vision of the world. Edward Hopper :::... This is Alice and she is Australias #1 rural lifestyle photographer and is beautifully aligned and devoted to her craft. Her subject matter jumps off the pages of her incredible coffee table books. Check out her work at almabin.com On a side note this shoot was a study in the art of the lean. Theres no better way to humanise someone than to get them into an ultra-natural, familiar position. And one of my go-to techniques is to find an authentic lean. Its comfortable for the person Im working with... but more importantly, its comfortable (and comforting) for the viewer. Its allows the viewer to relax and relate to you. And I dont know of many folks more salt of the earth and relatable than Alice.
19.01.2022 When you hand good people possibility, they do great things. Biz Stone -... This photo got me thinking about what a team really means. You see, these shots are composites (6 different photos, composited together to create one fantastic group shot). Its something that I do a lot of because there are quite a few really valuable, practical reasons. Its the visual ideal of what we are all striving to achieve. Obviously, we cant all always show up at our 100% actual best. Thats just being human. But the same applies to a group photo. Someone is always blinking or in the wrong position or about to sneeze. Its real life and real life is messy. And dont get me wrong. Theres a lot of value in celebrating the authentic mess. But I prefer to see what people are striving for. I prefer to look towards our highest ideals. I prefer to show the world what we all know we have within us. Interestingly, I try to show the world the ideal vision of myself by helping others express their own vision... their own ideals. But thats a whole different post altogether. Authenticity isnt something you put on a shelf for when its convenient. Its something you have to choose every day. And seeing yourself and your peers as the very best version of what we know ourselves capable of becoming... well thats a whole different level of authenticity. Thats holding ourselves up to a higher standard. Thats declaring for the world to see THIS! This is who we choose to be. And although we may not get it right 100% of the time, this is where we are headed. Are you coming along for the ride?
18.01.2022 I am the brightest light beaming from the darkest depths. - Jaeda DeWalt Heres an example of the kind of range of expression Im always talking about...... This is Matthew and he has 2 rather distinct audiences he needs to communicate with. His is a little more unique than most... co-owning a dental practice AND running a small investment firm. He explained the vibe he wanted to create for each and within 30 minutes we had come up with these winning shots. We are often communicating with different audiences who will respond better to more precise visual cues. Sometimes its internal (within your company) and external. Sometimes its potential clients and current clients. Sometimes there are more and less formal sides to our communications. Theres the official website look and social... lots of dichotomies in the world and its smart to be able to communicate with different sides authentically.
17.01.2022 Conventionality is the death of creation. Anthon St. Maarten :::... Theres a point in most portrait sessions when the initial awkwardness wears off and we settle into a groove. Its a point when the client starts to believe that this crazy process really will work after all... Im sure you can imagine that in the beginning most clients are nervous and uncomfortable. They rely on me to take control and make it all as painless as possible. But once we get moving and there is more confidence in the process, I let the client take the wheel and begin to steer the session. Thats when we start to play. The most authentic moments happen when the guard comes down and everything loosens up a bit... Those are what I like to call the in between moments and I think they are the most magical.
17.01.2022 We are perfect in our imperfection. - Megan Mccafferty There is so much power contained in the moments and minutes we spend waiting for life. So much truth and honesty is there, just below the surface... ready to come into view. Ready to be released.
15.01.2022 The wise speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something. - Plato :::... This is Sam. And she is an absolute media/ PR ninja, specialising in crisis communications... So shes been pretty busy the past few months! The degree of subtlety, nuance and finesse that she is capable of just astounds my loud-mouthed American brain. And because of that - on a personal level - youll walk away from a conversation with her feeling like a better person. You can check her out at www.mediamanoeuvres.com.au/ @ RACV Inverloch Resort
15.01.2022 Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance. - Eckhart Tolle

13.01.2022 More of me comes out when I improvise. Edward Hopper
13.01.2022 The world is as large as I let it be. - Avina Celeste Im always inspired by the people I photograph. And they constantly remind me to be the best version of myself. ... This is Bronwyn and she is in what many would consider an old school industry that wont last. But she is always looking forward... building on what she has created and reinventing herself step by step... keeping ahead of the curve and bringing value and opportunity to her clients and audience. This was photographed just before lockdown at an epic spot in Australia. I loved Inverloch and cant wait to get back there for more of this! @ RACV Inverloch Resort
13.01.2022 My world was the size of a crayon box, and it took every colour to draw her. - Sarah Kay
12.01.2022 There is a French expression that says something like: No one is prophet in his own country. and there is another one that approximately says: Who goes hunting loses his place. somewhere in between I try to find my space. Alain Bremond-Torrent This portrait thing is all about finding those lines and pushing those boundaries. ... I’m finding that, in order to truly portray someone, it takes a bit of dancing between those two French sayings to really get it right. This is Jaemin. He’s the founder of the Insecurity Project, author of the new book Unhindered, and all around good guy. I did a session with him to understand some of my own blind spots and try and overcome a bit of my own self sabotage... and one of the things he seems to do is ‘zoom in’ and ‘zoom out’ of your problems with an easy familiarity. So I photographed him in all the usual, standard ways. But I really wanted to experiment with getting too close. Because it’s a little confronting to look at your own mess honestly... So in the first shot (instead of zooming in with the lens, I got as close as I could with a slightly wider lens. It has a very striking effect. To me it feels ultra present... up close and personal... really face to face. The second image is a standard lens at a standard distance. That’s the only difference. (Well except the background was replaced in photoshop in the second image). Now I know the 2nd, standard shot is technically more flattering. But it’s really important to consider what your audience needs to see... what they need to understand about you and what you do. I guess I’m just encouraging anyone getting their portraits done to explore those boundaries between too far out and too safe. Because that is often where we even come to understand ourselves and our services differently. And we get the chance to portray that with more honesty and authenticity.
11.01.2022 People say nice things...
09.01.2022 In all affairs it's a healthy thing now and then to hang a question mark on the things you have long taken for granted. - Bertrand Russell #success #successmindset #successfulwomen #successstories #wealth #wealthmindset #wealthylife #wealthbuilding #portraitstore #communicator #jasonmalouin #freedom #grateful #canonwhatelse #cpfeatureme #canonexploreroflight #lightshapers #fstoppers #flashmates #portraits #selfdiscovery #recognise #litfromwithin #frameanexperience #realconnection #almostfamous #moretimetoreflect #realpeople #peoplepower #knowthyself
09.01.2022 Abundance flows into my life in surprising and miraculous ways every day. - Cheryl Richardson -... I need to say a big thank you to someone who has helped me experience and understand abundance in profound ways. @sarah_mccrum_blog is just one of those people that can help you see more clearly with the subtlest shift in perspective. I spent a short time with her and her partner and a few of their close friends in and around this shoot... I was there to do a job, but I didnt quite realise how much I had received in return. I was a bit skeptical of her approach to money and abundance at first. The conversations we had have slowly and profoundly begun to change not just how I think about abundance, but how I experience it (and choose it) day to day.
09.01.2022 You are the sky. Everything else is just the weather. Pema Chodron -... This is @jaeminfrazer. Hes the founder of the Insecurity Project and hes got a ninja-like ability to get below the surface of the destructive ways we undermine our own best efforts and intentions. I had the double pleasure of making his portraits; followed by a session spent under the hood as it were, exploring my own self limiting beliefs. Plus he has a new book out! https://jaeminfrazer.com/unhindered-pre-order
09.01.2022 The world is as large as I let it be. - Avina Celeste
08.01.2022 Some of the things I'm most proud of isn't because I think it's my best work; it's because of something that it's taught me. - Troy Baker -... This is Amit, Founder of FONA. Its an organisation doing amazing things in Nepal... empowering communities there to lift themselves up through all kinds of incredible philanthropic projects. This is one of those circumstances where the quote is quite literal. Im super proud of these shots. Amit is an all around great guy and I think that shines through in the images. But what Im most grateful for is the cultural education and global perspective I get every time I work with him. Hes so passionate about helping people in general. I always feel like I helped make the world a little better knowing Ive supported such meaningful projects. Check them out here ->> www.fona.org.au/ @ WeWork
08.01.2022 Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced. - Soren Kierkegaard . I love both of these images but they have a distinctly different feel from one another.... . In the first image, she is leaning against a wall. Its more grounded in space and time. It feels more real. And it has a significantly different feel to the second image. In the headshot, shes floating in space. She is t anchored to anything and so it has a different vibe. . Neither is right or wrong. They both have plenty of uses. The really important thing is to make sure you have a range of images that give you, your brand, and your messaging the flexibility and nuance you need when you are communicating with different audiences. 03.01.2022 In every single thing you do, you are choosing a direction. Your life is a product of choices. - Dr. Kathleen Hall -... This one is more a reminder to myself... as much as it is the perfect description of a portrait session. When we come together to make something that portrays who you are - who you really are - its a collaboration of very powerful and subtle choices. Curating as much as a creating. And those choices culminate in an expression that hopefully honours your particular vision and values... I think most importantly, its an active, living process. Because how else could I ever hope to portray an active, living, loving being? - Im working in Brisbane for a couple more weeks. If you need to be show up better when people find you, then give me a shout.
03.01.2022 Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate. - C.G. Jung
02.01.2022 You cannot explore the universe if you think that you are the center of it. - Joshua Suya Pelicano
02.01.2022 No human face is exactly the same in its lines on each side, no leaf perfect in its lobes, no branch in its symmetry. All admit irregularity as they imply change; and to banish imperfection is to destroy expression, to check exertion, to paralyze vitality. All things are literally better, lovelier, and more beloved for the imperfections. John Ruskin ... I love the imperfections and asymmetries. Its really my favourite part of this portraiture thing. Its often what gives an image a real grounding and immediacy. I think because its just so honest. Ill take real beauty over polished beauty any day of the week.
01.01.2022 You are a creative expression of the universe. You are worthy. Russell Eric Dobda :::... Colour - or - Black&White? This is Cathy. She helps medical profession run better practices and shes damn good at what she does. But how do you convey being good at your job? You start with the values you live by and the emotions they convey. Thats all you need to find the right direction for your portraits. This is something that helps tell your brand story throughout all your collateral. People want to know who you really are. Cathy is full of this brilliant, playful energy and thats exactly what she brings to her work.
