24.01.2022 How wonderful is it to have our parkrun back Don't forget each week it takes a handful of volunteers to keep our event going. We are still in need of a Marshal and Finish Tokens volunteer this week. These are mandatory positions without which we cannot go ahead.... Why not get in early and grab your spot for next week!

23.01.2022 Congratulations to the 107 runners & walkers who joined us today including many parkrun tourists and first timers including 2 year old Charlie who hopped out of her pram & walked her first 2ks! Yay Charlie!!! We are super excited that the Port Sorell Fiesta is back in Shearwater Park TODAY from 11am-9.30pm so perhaps treat yourself to an afternoon of zen in the sun. In the meantime, can you spot Bill’s buddy keeping a watchful eye on our finish line? Where else do the fauna form part our welcoming committee????

23.01.2022 Well thats how quickly things are changing. We are very very disappointed to say the Australia parkrun team have decided to suspend all parkruns effective immediately. All parkrun events in Australia and New Zealand have been suspended with immediate effect due to the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation. At this stage we have cancelled events up to the end of March. Please follow our communications channels for ongoing updates. parkruns global position is published and will be updated here. https://www.parkrun.com/news/2020/03/12/covid-19

21.01.2022 This morning we’ve created a poll on our story. Would you support a Christmas Day/Boxing Day Port Sorell parkrun double header? This means two sets of volunteers in two days . If you’d be able to volunteer for any position on either day, please offer below. Also tap into the poll. Then we can see if we have the man-power and interest to run on Christmas Day. Thanks in advance

The event was made possible by 6 volunteers: Bronty HALLEY Bill COTCHING Judy COTCHING Deb HICKS Marie ATKINSON Ashtyn DENNISON... A little delayed bit BIG shout out to these two legends who recorded their 50th run with us last Saturday (9 Jan). Well done Lucy and Dayna!

19.01.2022 Merry Christmas Port Sorell parkrunners & walkers! So fantastic to see you out there this morning preparing up for your big day Many thanks to our volunteers for giving of their time not only today, but throughout the year. Nathan, Judy, Phil, Ebony, Sam (u18), Colin & Deb special thank you today for making Christmas Day parkrun possible. Congratulations to Eddie on his 50th run & also to the other 50th runner (I’m so sorry we didn’t catch your name or photo!) who calle...d out as they started that it was their 50th run also. Sorry only a few (biased) happy snaps today parkrun is such an amazing event where we come together briefly to celebrate being active, being connected & being in our beautiful surroundings. We’re back again tomorrow as usual & hope to see you (again) out there enjoying it.

19.01.2022 What a busy morning for the last parkrun of 2019!!! Congratulations to all our participants this morning - you came from near and afar and we loved seeing all 126 of you walking, running, jogging and generally getting hot and sweaty!! Massive kudos to Alanie Cripps for completing her 100th parkrun (and youd never guess what token she got).... Big thanks to our amazing volunteers who make this event possible for us each week. It is so wonderful to see and hear our parkrunners thanking these guys for their contributions. Dont forget theres plenty of opportunity for you to have a go too Bill, Judy, Keith, Aaliah and Wendy - we cant do it without you! Only an initial few snaps this morning - anyone who has a phone and is happy to take photos will be most appreciated!! Dont forget to join us New Years Day at 9:30!

18.01.2022 Unfortunately due to the current air quality our event is canceled this morning. Air quality has reduced substantially overnight throughout many parts of Tasmania and along the NW Coast. We are bordering on "Unhealthy for sensitive groups" and "Unhealthy". Our duty of care to our participants is our first priority hence the decision to cancel. ... Please share with your parkrun friends.

17.01.2022 Port Sorell parkrunners, you may notice a little more traffic than usual at our start line on Saturday due to the annual Penguin Island Swim. Please note the Surf Club car park will be closed but we have kindly been offered parking on Shearwater Park which is only a few hundred metres from the start line - just allow yourself a few extra minutes so you dont miss the start. This swim is another amazing local event put on by the Surf Life Saving Club. Why not stick around after parkrun and watch our aquatic buddies in their element!

17.01.2022 Just in case you haven't yet heard the exciting news..... October 17 we're back!!! More details will follow in the next couple of weeks, but lace up those shoes and get ready to go!

16.01.2022 Happy Boxing Day! Congrats to the 109 locals, visitor and first timers who attended today. Special mention to the double-headers who also ran yesterday. There were several PB’s today. Perhaps our Christmas Feasts gave some of us improved motivation! Thanks to Debbie, Jo, Lachie (U18), Brett, Cass, Bek & Lesley for volunteering. We are not conducting a New Years Day event this week but Burnie & L’ton are. We can’t wait to see you all ‘next year’!!!

16.01.2022 Does anyone remember the good ol' days? We'd get up on a Saturday morning and head to parkrun... While we still have no restart date yet, there has been considerable planning put in by global HQ as to how parkrun can operate in our new COVID environment. One of the biggest challenges is to not turn our inclusive, friendly, easy to operate, socially acceptable event into a burden on either participants or our volunteers.... In the meantime it's been fantastic to see so many of our parkrunners getting out and about doing their own (not)parkrun running

16.01.2022 Good morning parkrunners. We are still looking for a Marshall for our turnaround point and a barcode scanner for this Saturday. Can you help? No experience required. Super easy jobs with great company. Inbox us or comment below. Thanks in anticipation!

What a great way to end your challenging year, Brett. Bring on 2020! (we need an amputee emoji) #weloveourparkrunfamily

15.01.2022 Tomorrow we are celebrate International Womens Day at parkrun. We encouraging everyone to bring a female family member, colleague or friend to experience our beautiful event. We are told that female participation is not quite equal in numbers to males nationally (though quietly we think we have a pretty good turn out at Port Sorell in our female participation - for both walkers/runners and volunteers!) Lets see if we can get even more involved tomorrow. Purple is... the colour of the day but dont let that stop or limit you. Fellas feel free to join in our celebration of the women in your life and/or parkrun. Wear some purple, wear a skirt, wear a cape - the skys the limit! Dont forget your barcode. See you for a 9:00am start #IWDparkrun

13.01.2022 If anyone is looking for motivation, check out how parkrunner Edward Lancaster is keeping his km's up - and helping others in the process! (ps in case you don't recognise him, he's usually the one up the front - or sometimes in a chicken or Santa suit )

13.01.2022 Congrats to the 104 park runners who braved the drizzle to join us today, especially Dave who was acknowledged for his 50 milestone (even though today was his 55th!). Remember that we no longer receive alerts about your milestones so please tell us so we can join in your celebration. Well done, Dave! Loads of 1st timers & tourists today, like Karen from WA who sails out on the Spirit tonight after 7 weeks in Tassie where she enjoyed 9 different parkruns. Im sure she saved the best for last!!! Safe travels, Karen. Keep your eyes on this page! We hope to have some exciting news for you TOMORROW! Huge thanks to Bill, Jo, Alison, Steph & Helen for volunteering. We are still looking for a bar code scanner tomorrow if you can help? Don't forget to either check in before you leave or check in when you arrive. This is a requirement from the State Government so please help us to comply.

08.01.2022 Hey parkrun Family. A quick message from Dayna. Today is a special day! Its Debs 50th Birthday! Its a lonely time to be celebrating a milestone, so please join me in sending a virtual hi5 to our hardworking founder in the comments below. Deb, you give so much of yourself for our benefit and parkrun enjoyment. We appreciate you and hope you have had an AMAZING day! 50 claps

07.01.2022 Who's getting excited about this Saturday!! We know it's been several months since our last parkrun so we thought we'd quickly remind you about your responsibilities as participants: Pay attention to the pre-parkrun briefing... Respect everyone’s right to participate in their own way Under 11s always within arm’s reach of a parent or guardian One dog (on a short lead) per person Be mindful of your local environment and other people No printed barcode, no time, no exception Have fun, it’s only a walk, jog or run Thank the amazing volunteers We have an amazing new path thanks to Latrobe Council and it is pram and wheelchair friendly the entire way! Due to building works at the Surf Club our start line will be about 100m further up the path - but don't worry, we've extended the turnaround point by the same distance! A Marshall will be at the usual start area to help direct you Please be mindful that we still have social distancing requirements and to maintain a 2 square metre distance between families from different households. We cannot wait to welcome everyone back on Saturday!

06.01.2022 A video showing the complete course, filmed during the New Years Day parkrun on January 1st, 2020.

05.01.2022 And we're back!!! What a day for our relaunch - well done Port Sorell for still showing up in wet, cold wintery conditions. We had an amazing 21 people complete our first parkrun in nearly 7 months. Congratulations to each and every one of you and many thanks for showing your support. To make sure we complied with both State Govt and parkrun Australia requirements we had extra volunteers on hand to assist today's relaunch.... Appreciation and thanks go out to: Dan Bowden, Jo Riddoch, Aaliah Dennison, Bill Cotching, Alison Darbyshire, Ashytn Dennison, Judy Cotching, Dayna Dennison and Wendy King. See everyone next week!

If your phone is unable to support this app, please ask another participant to register your attendance. ... If you don’t take your phone to parkrun, you can check in online, or scan our code prior to leaving your home. We will be displaying our QR code on Saturday. Thank you for doing your bit to support COVID-19 contact tracing efforts.

05.01.2022 Not sure theres much more to add. We are so proud of you Brett Christie and love that our parkrun community has had such a big impact.

04.01.2022 Today would have seen us celebrate our 2nd birthday. Like the thousands of other events around the world, we were devastated in March when parkrun HQ made the extremely hard decision to close all events globally. Weve gone from an exciting start back in 2018, to watching our parkrun family grow, celebrating milestones, Council upgrading our path and welcoming visitors from around the State, nationally and internationally ... As always it the force of our community that holds us together. Although we dont have a relaunch date yet, the glimmer of light is that New Zealand will be the first country to resume from July 4. This heralds well for us and we hope Australia wont be too far behind We will keep you posted on any updates and of course look forward to celebrating a relaunch in the near future. In the meantime, happy 2 year anniversary Port Sorell parkrun! Celebrate with us in spirit this weekend with your own run or walk and post us your anniversary message/photo/results below Best wishes from the Event Team, stay well and keep moving!
