25.01.2022 Sail port Stephens- Day 2

22.01.2022 It was great racing today in a fresh 20kt NE sternchaser. Wind against tide made for a choppy and wet ride at times, but all the crews appeared to have fun! There was some good-natured banter afterwards back at the club which may have involved the topic of start times/handicaps.... A massive thank you to our race officers and bar staff.

22.01.2022 Conditions were mostly light and flukey in today's marathon race (combined Div 1 and 2), causing a shortened course down to Shoal Bay and back. The patience of the crews was tested heading back home into the tide. Congratulations to winner Kaos, who showed a superb turn of speed heading along the shoreline at Shoal Bay, overtaking a few Div 1 boats!

21.01.2022 Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club have done an amazing job renovating upstairs of the the former ‘Port Stephens Sailing and Aquatic Club’ clubhouse, with a coffee shop open daily as of tomorrow (7am -12pm). ‘Try dinghy sailing’ will be be available 9-11am daily until January. The sailing club is now called ‘The Bay Sailing Centre’. Please refer article below for further information. https://www.portstephensexaminer.com.au//opening-date-fo/

19.01.2022 Nature treated us to a spectacular cloud show this afternoon, as a storm front rolled through. Thankfully, there wasn’t much in it and the race continued. Photo credit to Bernie from ‘Thief of Time’. Thank you

13.01.2022 Can you tell what’s wrong in this photo? The great thing about our club is the good-natured banter that occurs when crews make little mistakes. It’s always good to have a laugh....either at our own expense, or another boat’s!

11.01.2022 A big thanks to Maritime for joining our fleet on Saturday and sharing their support on our annual White Ribbon Awareness Day. Also a big thanks to Roger Yeo for the seventh-year promoting the White Ribbon movement, helping to raise awareness and educate us on the various forms that abuse can take. On Saturday, we learned about "coercive control". The term used to capture the ongoing nature of domestic violence, where the abuse is not always physical but pervades a victim’s daily life. It refers to a wide variety of abusive behaviours including social, financial, psychological, and technology-facilitated abuse. With continued education and support from individuals, community groups and government we hope that more people can find the courage to "stand up, speak out and act" to end violence against women.

11.01.2022 Looking good 51st Project Julian Bell

10.01.2022 Today’s sail was a special one. It was our annual ‘Jack Holman Memorial Race’. Jack was an active and very popular member of our club for many years and his life was sadly cut short. Each year, the club runs this race in his memory, running a fixed course to Shoal Bay and back, passing his favourite local pubs. Jack’s family have donated a substantial amount of money to the club to encourage ongoing sailing within our area. ... We are lucky to have Jack’s family present the prizes and cup to our winner each year. This year Cheryl and ‘Sub Zero’ are our winners of the prestigious race - a notable feat given the fresh, gusty southerly conditions and only two crew members onboard! Well done!

07.01.2022 The wet weather didn’t stop today’s race. Our race officers said they stayed nice and dry, all tucked up in the Starter’s caravan! Congratulations to todays’s winners ‘Raptor’ (Ist division) and ‘Kaos’ (2nd division) Thanks Jules for the photos!

05.01.2022 Only four boats headed out in the wet weather today, all from Div 1. Nature treated them to some amazing cloud formations as rain fronts passed through. Photos below were taken from onboard ‘Thief of Time’. Thanks Bernie!

04.01.2022 Sail Port Stephens - Day one

01.01.2022 Our club is very inclusive and encouraging to all those who wish to participate in the rewarding sport of sailing. We currently have low representation of female sailors however, and would love to see more ladies out on the water. As a result, we are running a ‘Female Series’ over Summer/Autumn. Please see flyer below for more information.
